1 ECONOMICS & MANAGEMENT SEMESTER 5 Econometrics Chapter 1: Simple regression model Chapter 2: Multiple regression model Chapter 3: Reliability tests Chapter 4: Quantitative variable model Alban Thomas, Econométrie des variables. qualitatives, Dunod 2000 Araujo et ali, Econométrie, Amphi Economie History of economic thought 2 The evolution of the economic thought since the 1870s This course targets L3 students in economics and management, who wish to get a better insight about the different analysis economists produced over the years, in order to better understand the world we live in. Students are expected to have a basic knowledge in micro- and macroeconomics. Being familiar with the authors studied during the HPE1 classes would be an additional asset, but this is not a prerequisite. However, a curious mind and an interest for economic theories are essential. Teaching is based on the study of a selected list of authors from the 19th and 20th centuries. The following is a temporary list of recommended authors: Léon WALRAS (Evreux, 1834 Clarens, Suisse, 1910) Vilfredo PARETO (Paris, 1848 Céligny, Suisse, 1923) Alfred MARSHALL (Londres, 1842 Cambridge, 1824) Thorstein VEBLEN (Manitowoc, Wisconsin, 1857 Menlo Park, Californie, 1929) John Maynard KEYNES (Cambridge, 1883 Firle, Sussex, 1946) Friedrich August von HAYEK (Vienne, 1899 Fribourg en Brisgau, 1992) Joseph Aloïs SCHUMPETER (Trietsch, Moravie, 1883 Salisbury, Connecticut, 1950) Milton FRIEDMAN (New-York, San Francisco, 2006) John Kenneth GALBRAITH (Iona Station, Ontario 1908 Cambridge, Massachusetts, 2006) We recommend students read, whenever possible, the original texts. Macroeconomics 4 The Economic Growth
2 This course targets L3 students in economics and management who wish to master macroeconomic theories about the long-term growth of the GDP per capita. - in economics: basic knowledge in microeconomics (production function, elasticity); - in mathematics: differentiation of multivariable functions, simple calculations of the growth rate in continuous and non-continuous time. - basic elements in economics and mathematics necessary to understand the course will be reviewed at the beginning of the course. - an interest for I.T.? modelling is essential. Teaching focuses on the introduction and discussion of macroeconomic theories expressed through models. The single formal frame we use, focusing on aggregate production function, helps comparing the different theories Models' conclusions are compared to the empirical reality. During tutorials, students will practice using the models introduced in class. 1. To start with: D. Blanchard and D. Cohen, Macroeconomics, Pearson Education, 3rd Edition, 2004 (chapters 3-4) 2. To go further : Arrous J. Les théories de la croissance. Seuil, collection «Points Economie», 1999 Barro R.J. et Sala-I-Martin X. La croissance économique. McGraw-Hill / Ediscience, 1996 Hairault J.O. La croissance Théories et réalités empiriques. Economica, Data and analysis on global growth: United Nations Programme for Development (UNDP) World Bank: International Monetary Fund: Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD): Institut National de la Statistique et des Etudes Economiques (INSEE) : Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change, final report, HM Treasury, Londres Companies and sustainable development It is recommended to have some notions of business economics, and organisational management and strategy. - To discover what are the stakes of sustainable development and its management, as well as corporate social responsibility (CSR) in today's organisations. - To provide students with the necessary tools to understand and analyse how companies evolve when confronted with stakeholders' new expectations. - Break the apparent contradiction between economic efficiency and social or environmental equity. - Understanding sustainable development and its basic related theories - Understanding corporate social responsibility's stakes in regards to the management of a company - Learning about the existing practices and tools available to managers - Understanding the complexity of today's companies and the link between the sustainable development's overall goal and how companies can reach it in practice - Analyzing current affairs, in particular how simple communication and a true socially responsible action are perceived
