5 IP COST CALCULATOR AGENT BENCHMARKING The IP CostCalculator (IPCC) is an online web-based tool that gives instant access to information about IP law firms agents professional fees and official registry charges in more than 180 countries around the world. Brandstock s Agent Benchmarking was a ground-breaking service developed after Brandstock responded to feedback from many clients that their legal departments were under increasing pressure to work with smaller budgets while maintaining service levels. This fee information is constantly updated and, in the case of official fees, verified by Brandstock. The professional fees are binding quotes, not estimates, and brand owners can confidently rely on them for budgeting and scoping fixed-fee IP projects. The IPCC is unique in terms of the scope of information offered and the reliability of the data. Before Brandstock developed and launched the IPCC in 2002, there was no easy way to compare the professional fees of IP agents. Furthermore, Brandstock found that the official registry fees quoted by some IP agents were not accurate and that simply by being charged the correct fee as displayed by the IPCC, clients could save between 10% and 20% of such costs. The IPCC now covers fees for all trademark-related service professional and official fees. 7 ENFORCEMENT Enforcement action varies greatly from country to country and there is usually more than one type of action available. Counterfeits pass over borders, often making multi-jurisdiction enforcement necessary and requiring action via Customs. Brandstock has a specialist anti-counterfeiting practise that can advise on which method of action suits the circumstances, how cost-effective each is and the impact that it is likely to have on the availability of counterfeits in the marketplace. Brandstock has a special focus on China where it can offer fixed fees for raids and other action.
