2 Workshop Program Since many years the German-Chinese Society of Medicine (DCGM) serves as an acknowledged platform and forum for interchange and initiation of cooperation projects in the health sector between Germany and China, not only in the field of scientific-medical questions but also with reference to themes of health services research. Health management, organization and financing of the stationary and ambulatory care as well as the implementation of social security insurance systems are topics which are relevant in this discussion. In view of the great challenges for both health care systems in Germany and China by means of demographic change, communication between experts during our workshops and symposia is an excellent opportunity to improve knowledge. Qualification in health care management and health care economy is becoming more and more important in medical care and the health care industry, and is a necessary foundation in the health care reform discussion of any country especially in China. This calls for adequate further training of doctors and medical experts as well as of medical and political decision makers to enable them to shape and reorganize economic and institutional conditions in medical care. The Training Workshop Hospital Quality and Finance Management located in Bejing and Berlin addresses clinical and hospital experts and executives as well as public health service experts in the Chinese health care system. It introduces basic principles of health care management and health economics used in the German health care system and illustrates the relevance of these principles for public health service, health care and the health care industry in health management and economics. Main topics are the payment systems in the German healthcare system, the German DRG-system and its evaluation, process management, clinical pathways, inpatient quality indicator systems and challenges respectively trends of hospital management in China as well as the presentation of the German Social Accident Insurance and its hospitals. The lectures held in Beijing will be complemented by practical demonstrations during visits in different Berlin hospitals. The interdisciplinary approach and linkage of theoretical knowledge and practical experience provides a comprehensive foundation of knowledge in the concerned fields.
