Designed with support of the Ontario electric utilities this initiative promotes energy conservation and management in the Ontario Retail Sector. How it works RCC is pleased to provide services to all stakeholders who influence energy consumption in the retail environment including: Retailers of all sizes Service providers that work with retail customers, and Property managers that lease retail space Participant Services: All retailers will have access to webinars, a monthly newsletter, a website with tools and resources, as well as guidance on how to access electric utility incentives. Retailers with an Ontario Corporate Energy Spend greater than $500,000 will have access to custom energy management planning which may include a host of services ranging from energy audits to incentive application assistance. 5 Rcc energy bright fast facts... Upgrades to refrigeration and lighting which reduce heat and regulate temperatures can reduce spoilage and therefore reduce shrink. Cost savings from reduced shrink can sometimes result in greater cost savings than the reduced energy savings. 52% of electricity used by Food Retailers is for Refrigeration Equipment. High-efficiency supermarket refrigeration can drastically reduce energy consumption 55% of electricity used by Non-Food Retailers is for Lighting. LED Lamps can replace incandescent or halogen lamps in retail applications. 32% of electricity used by Non-Food Retailers is for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC). Building Recommissioning re-optimizing your building s performance is a cost-effective way to save energy. 0% electricity can be saved if you aren t committed. Hiring an Energy Manager or forming a Corporate Energy Committee is a great way to get organized.

6 just some ways you can save... Small businesses with an electricity demand of less than 50kW are eligible to receive up to $1,500 worth of energy-efficient lighting. Equipment supply, installation, clean up and recycling is all provided through the small business lighting program. One of Canada s largest department stores expects $775,000 in incentives through Ontario s retrofit program for replacing over 116,000 incandescent spotlights with energy efficient LED lamps. They ll also save $2 million annually in reduced electricity costs! One s of Canada leading retail pharmacy chains used incentives from Ontario s high performance new construction program to install efficient lighting and air conditioning in 120 new stores across Ontario. Their average incentive was $6,900 per store! One of Canada s largest food retailers provides Ontario with 10 MW of demand response at peak times by finding the right balance of store lighting and air conditioning without affecting store product or customer experience.
