UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER MEDICAL CENTER Child and Adolescent Doctoral Psychology Intern (APA Accredited Internship) July 2013-June 2014 Supervisors: Wendi Cross, Ph.D., Michael Teisl, Ph.D., Deanna Sams, Ph.D., Sarah Jonovich, Ph.D. Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Inpatient Rotation (July 2013-December 2013) Primary Clinician Sub-Rotation (3 months): Served as the primary clinician for two patients in need of acute psychiatric stabilization as part of an interdisciplinary team of attending and resident psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, social workers and medical students. Responsibilities included conducting and participating in daily rounds on all patients on the unit, presenting patients history and progress in regular multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, and working individually with patients and family to facilitate stabilization, treatment and appropriate discharge plans. 2 Group Therapy and Psychological Testing/Consultation Sub-Rotation (3 months): Facilitated weekly skilled-based (e.g. Mindfulness) and process-oriented (Teen Issues Group) group therapy for children and adolescents (ran six groups a week), conducted comprehensive psychological assessments for inpatient and partial-hospitalization populations including cognitive testing, achievement testing, standardized objective measures, and/or projective measures, and facilitated Family Movie Therapy according to Dr. David Garrison s treatment approach. Gained training and participated in the Collaborative Problem Solving approach utilized within an inpatient milieu. Child and Adolescent Outpatient Rotation (July 2013-June 2014) Provided diagnostic evaluation and evidence-based treatment at Strong Behavioral Health: Child and Adolescent Outpatient Services. Treatment modalities included: individual, family, and group therapies as well as and parent and school consultation. Maintained a caseload of clients, ages 3-18, presenting with a range of developmental, emotional, behavioral, and medical needs. Conducted comprehensive psychological assessments for children and adolescents referred for concerns related to cognitive functioning, learning disorders, and other behavioral and emotional difficulties. Participated in weekly diagnostic clinic, multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, and individual and group supervision (4-5 hours weekly). Attended regular didactic seminars on evidence-based treatments for children and adolescents, supervision models, multicultural case conferences, and professional development (e.g. collaborative problem solving, suicide and risk assessment, psychopharmacology, mindfulness-based interventions, eating disorders, family therapy, CBT for OCD, DBT and parenting interventions and strategies). Completed Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) Training for Clinicians led by certified WPS trainer. Completed Commitment to Living: Understanding and Responding to Suicide Risk Workshop led by Dr. Anthony R. Pisani, including supervised risk assessment of a standardized patient. Pediatric Behavioral Health Rotation (January 2014-June 2014) Provided evaluation, short-term treatment, crisis management and consultation with medication providers through the Pediatric Behavioral Health Service at Golisano Children s Hospital and made referrals for long term treatment and/or community resources based on the needs of the child/adolescent and family. Shadowed psychologists, psychiatrists, and physicians for training and exposure to Pediatric specialty clinics including Pulmonary, Adolescent Medicine (i.e. Eating Disorders Unit), and Pediatric Inpatient Consultation/Liaison Service Crisis Intervention Service Rotation (March 2014 June 2014) Worked in conjunction with a crisis case manager to provide clinical services to families in acute crisis through the Crisis Intervention Service at Strong Behavioral Health: Child and Adolescent Outpatient Services. Specific responsibilities included: identifying the immediate client-specific emotional, behavioral, social, and educational needs of the child or adolescent and family, providing brief evidence-based intervention, and facilitating referrals and/or consultation to community resources, primary care physicians and schools if clinically indicated. LUTHERAN MEDICAL CENTER, PROJECT SECOND TRY Pre Doctoral Psychology Extern September 2012-June 2013 Glorious Dunkerley, Ph.D., Supervisor Project Second Try is a grant-funded program that operates through the court system providing treatment for children and adolescents with sexualized behavioral problems (ages 5-17). It is a two-year mandated C. Maliszewski, 2

3 intervention that provides weekly individual and group therapy, psychiatric evaluations, and a comprehensive psychological assessment for each participant. Training and clinical experiences were as follows: Conducted weekly intakes for new referrals to Project Second Try Co-led group therapy once a week following T. Kahn's Pathways treatment manual. Group members were mostly male adolescents (ages 13-17), often had a psychiatric diagnosis and their own trauma histories in addition to the sexualized behavior problems that led them to the clinic. Maintained a caseload of 10 adolescent clients, seen on a weekly basis presenting with a range of developmental, emotional and behavioral needs, typically with significant trauma histories. Maintained communication with the caregivers, parole officers, Child Protective Services and other systems involved when appropriate. Collateral and/or family sessions conducted on a regular basis. Conducted 5 full psychological batteries consisting of cognitive (WISC/WAIS, Bender, Beery), personality (including projective measures), and risk for reoffending measures (J-SOAP-II, Adolescent Cognitions Scale for Juvenile Sexual Offenders, ERASOR). Maintained a caseload of 2 adult clients, seen on a weekly basis, from Lutheran's Sunset Terrace Adult Outpatient Mental Health Center. Received weekly individual and bi-weekly group supervision as well as testing supervision on an as-needed basis. Participated in four hours of didactic training a week including a year-long training in the development, administration, and interpretation of the Tell Me a Story (TEMAS) test conducted by its creator, Dr. Giuseppe Costantino. Max and Celia Parnes Family Psychological and Psychoeducational Services Clinic Family & Couples Practicum Student Therapist September 2012-June 2013 Barbara Russek, Ph.D., Individual Supervisor; Shelly Goldklank, Ph.D., Group Supervisor Participated in a year long family and couples therapy course with practicum, live supervision via a one-way mirror and additional weekly supervision involving review of video-taped sessions. Conducted weekly couples therapy with one couple, seen on a weekly basis, over the course of the year. Provided and received peer supervision in addition to individual and group supervision. Max and Celia Parnes Family Psychological and Psychoeducational Services Clinic Advanced Psychodynamic Track Student Therapist September 2012-June 2013 Nancy Atlas, Ph.D., Individual Supervisor; Shelly Goldklank, Ph.D., Group Supervisor Conducted weekly individual psychodynamic psychotherapy with a caseload of 3 adult clients. Attended weekly 2-hour group supervision with Dr. Shelly Goldklank and fellow classmates. Reviewed audio-visual tapes and discussed ongoing treatment and case conceptualizations. Attended weekly 1-hour individual supervision with Dr. Nancy Atlas within the psychodynamic framework. MAIMONIDES MEDICAL CENTER Adult Psychiatric Inpatient Services Pre Doctoral Psychology Extern June 2012-August 2012 Lynn Kaplan, Psy.D., Supervisor Co-led daily group therapy with the psychology intern. Group was run based on Yalom s relational model of inpatient group psychotherapy. Conducted individual therapy with 7 patients in total for the entirety of their stay on the unit. Observed and conducted intakes of individuals newly admitted to the unit. Participated in family meetings, discharge planning, and milieu treatments on the unit. Completed five adult psychological batteries. Tests administered included: WASI, RBANS, Rorschach Inkblot Test Exner Scoring System, and MMPI-2-RF. C. Maliszewski, 3

MAIMONIDES MEDICAL CENTER Child & Adolescent Outpatient Services Pre Doctoral Psychology Extern Annette Hernandez, Ph.D., Supervisor September 2011-June 2012 CAOS is a comprehensive outpatient clinic that serves racially and ethnically diverse, low-income or poverty level families in Brooklyn. Training and clinical experiences were as follows: Maintained a caseload of 5 child individual psychotherapy cases, seen on a weekly basis, specifically treating from a CBT framework. Clients ranged from ages 6-10 with various diagnoses to include specific phobias, depressive and anxiety disorders, as well as conduct and/or behavioral problems. Ongoing collateral and clinical feedback sessions with families as needed and clinically appropriate. Administration, scoring and interpretation of two comprehensive psychological testing batteries (1 child and 1 adult) including Wechsler Series; Beery; projective evaluations including the Exner scored Rorschach; and personality assessment scales. Weekly supervision by senior staff psychologist, Dr. Annette Hernandez and weekly peer supervision with current psychology intern. Attendance at weekly treatment planning conferences, unit staff meetings, externship didactics and biweekly grand rounds Worked with resident and attending psychiatrists, social work and psychology interns, and fellow psychology externs as part of the consultation liaison service, specifically within the pediatric emergency department. Conducted psychiatric evaluations, determined psychiatric diagnoses and developed and implemented disposition plans for patients upon entry to the hospital. Attended weekly 2-hour group supervision with Dr. Leslie Warfield and fellow trainees as well as weekly 1- hour individual supervision with Dr. Nancy Atlas, Ph.D. within the psychodynamic framework. Conducted and produced written reports of intakes and comprehensive psychological testing with adult clients (e.g. Wechsler series, Rorschach, TAT, MMPI). MOUNT SINAI MEDICAL CENTER, DEPT. OF PEDIATRICS NEW YORK, NY Pre Doctoral Psychology Extern, Child and Family Support Program (CFSP) July 2010-June 2011 Satya Laren, PhD, Supervisor CFSP is a program composed of an interdisciplinary team that focuses specifically on the evaluation and treatment of child abuse and neglect. Training and experiences included the following: Provided weekly individual psychotherapy with children who were victim to child abuse and/or neglect and their non-offending parents under the supervision of Dr. Satya Laren. Observation of and participation in psychosocial, forensic and clinical interviews and other externs psychotherapy sessions Didactic seminars reviewing the following subjects: Attachment and affect regulation issues in patients exposed to child abuse and neglect; trauma theory and trauma focused psychotherapy Participation in weekly interdisciplinary clinical meetings with Pediatric Fellows, Social Work, and Child Life Specialists. Responsible for 6-10 school age children with varying development, emotional, and behavioral difficulties. Facilitated daily group therapy sessions with licensed therapists and social workers as well as accompanied children on daily excursions throughout New York City. COLLINGHAM GARDENS CHILD AND FAMILY PSYCHIATRY UNIT LONDON, ENGLAND Undergraduate Psychology Intern Fall 2007 Completed an undergraduate psychology internship at a children s inpatient psychiatric hospital in Central London, England. Monitored children s behavior and treatment plans as well as helped children with day-today activities. Served as classroom aid and participated in daily de-briefing sessions with both hospital and teaching staff. ROCHESTER CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT Project CARE (Coaches and Role Models for Empowerment) Coach Project CARE is a mentoring and tutoring program at the University of Rochester for struggling students in the Rochester City School District. Worked individually with third grade students for two to four hours a week, helping them to improve performance both academically and socially.
