7 A Personal Anecdote Company context: Intense Regulator scrutiny due to safety performance; Focus on reduction of Lost Time Injuries; Continuous operation 3 shifts, workers bussed into mine site Dad bussed in for day shift, home via night shift Repeated in afternoons. Signed off on trainee log books. No Lost Time resulted (c) IFAP May 2015 Injured Workers Seminars: What Have We Learned? 7

Victim of the system 5 years to settle Never worked again expertise lost to industry Medication continues: 40mg MS Contin and 6 Panadeine Osteo per day Bitterness, reflected in his quote from Shakespeare s Henry VI: The first thing we do, let s kill all the lawyers. (c) IFAP May 2015 Injured Workers Seminars: What Have We Learned? 10

11 IFAP & WorkCover Research in preparation for 2006 Strategic Plan identified injured workers as key IFAP stakeholders Despite (or because of?) my Dad s experience Vision: Safer, healthier workplaces Mission: To provide leading safety solutions & support for our stakeholders. (c) IFAP May 2015 Injured Workers Seminars: What Have We Learned? 24

25 What the Delegates are Telling Us But these are troubling: I am disheartened with employer and workers compensation Insurer very dominating Doctor more interested in finding me work than managing my injury Will be changing my AVRP (one delegate shoot my AVRP!) I have been in the system and had various RTW programs only to be left to my own devices I tried to get involved in my IM but my employer was not interested (c) IFAP May 2015 Injured Workers Seminars: What Have We Learned? 25
