Georgia is eyeing a return to prominence in the Southeastern Conference under second-year head coach Scott Stricklin. The Bulldogs finished and made a return to the SEC Tournament in Stricklin s inaugural campaign. Stricklin came to Athens via Kent State, where he led his alma mater to five NCAA appearances including a College World Series appearance in The Bulldogs have rode impressive pitching early this season. Georgia s combined ERA is just 2.28, 23rd best in the country. The red and black has also flashed a surprising offensive attack. The Bulldoges have nine home runs already this season, which places them firmly in the top-25 nationally. Georgia is led at the plate by sophomore center fielder Stephen Wrenn. The Bulldog is swinging at a.404 clip with a pair of doubles and triples. The Bulldogs are amongst the nation s leaders in fielding. Georgia picks it at a.988 percentage, good for fourth in Division I. STARTING PITCHING SHINES A week after Longwood s starting pitchers struggled in the series allowing a combined 16 runs, the Lancer staff rebounded in a big way against. Aaron Myers hurled a six-hit complete game and surrendered just a single run in a tough luck loss in the series opener. Travis Burnette provided his best start at Longwood going 7.1 scoreless innings and scattering six hits while striking out five. In Sunday s rubber match, freshman Michael Catlin picked up his first start and tossed a strong 5.1 innings of two-hit ball, allowing just two runs. Catlin improved to 2-0 on the season. BIDDIX COMES UP BIG Senior co-captain Travis Biddix hit his first career home run in the ninth inning of Longwood s comeback win over James Madison. The Lancers went on to score three times in the top of the ninth to take a 6-4 lead in the game. With the tying run at third base and the go-ahead run at second in the bottom of the ninth, Biddix blocked strike three in the dirt and tagged the batter for the final out in Lognwood s 6-5 victory. Biddix has reached safely in each of the Lancers 10 games this season. Myers currently sits second on the all-time saves list to New York Yankee prospect Mark Montgomery. That record is likely to stay intact though as Myers will lead the rotation on Friday nights. Myers finished 7-4 despite producing one of the most spectacular seasons in Longwood history, recording a 1.76 ERA, That is the lowest single-season mark in Lancers history for a starting pitcher (min. 50 IP). In the Division-I era, only closer Mark Montgomery has recorded a lower mark, with a 0.99 ERA in Longwood Single-Season ERA (min 50.0 IP) 1. Aaron Myers Dennis Hale Dennis Hale Myers is currently fourth on the career strikeouts list with 222 punchouts after overtaking Justin Bunch in game one versus. The Newport News native will take over third on the all-time list with three fanned batters on Saturday. Longwood Career Strikeouts 1. Brian McCullough Steve Mozucha Dennis Hale Aaron Myers Justin Bunch The sensational righty also has a chance to set a new record for career ERA at Longwood. With his 2.69 ERA, Myers actually has some wiggle room over current record holder, Mickey Roberts, who finished his career with a 2.85 ERA. One final mark that could fall to Myers is the BB/G record set by John Walker II at Myers currently issues 1.26 free passes per game. #KRUSHEDbyKYRI Junior right-fielder Kyri Washington is fifth in the nation in home runs through March 2. The local product out of Prospect, Va. dropped three over the wall in the first two games of the season at Tennessee Tech. Each of Washington s shots were to the opposite field on opening weekend. The slugger added his fourth long ball of the season against, sending a no-doubter over the left field fence. The Lancers left fielder also leads the club with nine RBI on the year. KONVICKA COMEBACk Center fielder Colton Konvicka looks to be back in his old form, after returning from a nagging hamstring issue a season ago. Konvicka is currently hitting a team-high.324 with a pair of doubles and a triple to this point in the season. With over 250 opportunities, Konvicka has committed just six errors in his career. He holds a.979 fielding percentage in his first two seasons and recorded a.992 mark in his freshman campaign. The speedy center fielder has moved to the top of the lineup after beginning the season in the nine-hole. Konvicka has also scored seven runs this season, second-most on the team. WELCOME TO LONGWOOD A trio of newcomers led the Lancers to a series victory over in the rubber match on Sunday. Freshmen Michael Catlin, and Michael Osinski along with junior colege transfer Connar Bastaich had big days in Longwood s 6-2 win. Catlin stepped into a starter s role for the first time and tossed 5.1 innings of tworun, two-hit baseball, earning the win in his first career start. The rookie southpaw struck out four Black Knights while walking just one and no-hit for the first four innings. At the plate, Osinski and Bastaich provided all the run support Catlin would need, combining for a 7-for-9 day with four RBI. Osinski busted the game open in the first with a two-run single to right center. The shortstop plated his first two RBI of the season on the two-out hit. Osinski finshed the game with a 3-for-4 outing, by far his best of the season and raised his batting average.140 points. Bastaich, who transferred from Potomac State College, has carved out a healthy role in the lineup through ten games. The right-handed hitting first baseman is batting at a.308 clip on the season. Bastaich provided a pair of RBI as well in the Sunday finale with going 4-for-5 on the day. The five-hole hitter also scored a run in the series clinching victory. PITCHING POWEr The starting rotation shapes up to be a strength for coach Ryan Mau s inaugural club. Mau has a history of solid staffs, most recently at Navy, where he led a group that topped the Patriot League in strikeouts three of the past four seasons. Mau has served as the pitching coach at each of his stops en route to Farmville.

4 Aaron Myers returns to lead the charge on Friday nights, after going 7-4 with a 1.76 ERA in Myers spun gem after gem, but fell victim to a lack of run support, picking up just 0.75 runs per game in his four losses. Behind Myers, senior Brandon Vick will answer the call on Sundays. Vick went just 4-7 last season, but much like Myers, fell victim to poor run support. Rounding out the rotation is Travis Burnette, who will step up on Saturdays. Burnette began 2014 as the closer before joining the rotation late in the season. Burnette went 1-2 in five starts, giving up 11 runs. Five of those came in a single game against Duke. If you remove the Duke game, Burnette recorded a respectable 3.00 ERA as a starter. BULLPEN BUILDUP Longwood s bullpen has been solid in the past four games for the blue and white. In Beginning with the series finale against, the relievers have allowed just two runs in 17.0 innings of work. Four Lancers scattered 10 hits across those 17.0 innings as Luke Simpson, Ryan Jones, Michael Catlin and Mitchell Kuebbing combined to provided excellent relief. The Lancers bullpen will benefit from some fresh arms in Freshman Michael Catlin has the ability to make an impact and join veterans Devin Gould and Mitchell Kuebbing as major hurlers out of the pen. Longwood brought in six rookie pitchers for the 2015 season. The six new arms are evenly split with three southpaws and three righties. Three freshmen made their Longwood debuts on opening weekend as Josh Covey, Michael Catlin and Chase McPherson saw action on the hill. FINDING A WAY ON BASE Three Lancers have reached base in each of the first ten games of the season. Travis Biddix hit in seven consecutive games to open the season, marking his career-long hit streak. Connar Bastaich and C.J. Roth join Biddix in reahcing safely in all seven games Big South Stolen Base Leaders 1. Brandon Angus VMI Colton Konvicka LWU Chris Coia RU Jordan Tarsovich VMI JJ Nazzaro GWU 19 Konvicka was caught stealing just three times in 2014, recording a success rate of 89-percent. That percentage was good enough for second in the Big South Conference amongst base stealers with a minimum 10 attempts. With 41 career steals, Konvicka is quickly approaching the top-10 in Longwood history, needing just 13 swiped bags to break into the rankings. The junior sits tied atop the Big South with five stolen bases this season. Konvicka nabbed a pair of bags in Longwood s wins over JMU and. MAKE EM EARN It Longwood struggled fielding the ball last season committing 87 errors. The Lancers finished 11th in the Big South with a fielding percentage of.958 and were picked just.950 in conference play. The Lancers fielding woes led to 53 unearned runs in In nine games, unearned runs were a difference maker in the decision. Longwood ranked 248 out of 296 Division I teams in fielding percentage. DIGGING THE LONG BALL Kyri Washington already has four homers to lead the Lancers and sit in the top-10 nationally in home runs. The Lancers lived on the long ball in 2014 and finished the year second in the Big South with 26 homers. 5 MAU MANAGERIAL DEBUT Longwood head coach Ryan Mau is making his debut as a head coach after spending 12 years navigating the ranks. Mau is the fourth coach in Longwood Baseball history. Prior to arriving at Longwood, Mau spent the past four seasons in Annapolis, Md. as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator with the United States Naval Academy. At Navy, Mau s pitching staff lead the Patriot League in strikeouts three of the past four seasons. He also had the Pitcher of the Year in the form of Anthony Parenti. While serving as the recruiting coordinator, Navy reeled in three-straight top-100 recruiting classes. Maus is making his second coaching stop in Virginia after serving as an assistant with VMI from In 2010, Mau served as the associate head coach and helped the Keydets to a record. That year, VMI reached its highest national ranking ever at No. 26. NO TIME FOR INTRODUCTIONS The Lancers will be thrown into the fire early in Longwood plays a very tough schedule featuring nine of the top-100 teams in the RPI to end Non-conference series with the likes of Georgia and NC State combined with games at top-10 Virginia and Duke will certainly provide a challenge to the blue and white. Longwood faces four teams which made the NCAA Tournament last season, including Virginia who advanced all the way to the College World Series finals. GORILLA BALL Two Lancers finished near the top of the conference in long balls last season. Brandon Delk finished fourth on the leaderboard while teammate Kyri Washington was just behind in fifth Big South Home Run Leaders 1. Ryan Seiz LIB Alex Close LIB 9 2. Hunter Higgerson RU 9 4. A HOME FOR HARVELL As a freshman, Brandon Harvell was a journeyman and a utility player in every sense of the word. After starting at six different positions in 2014, Harvell has finally found a home as the starting shortstop. The nice thing with Harvell is the coaching staff can rest assured they have an option should any shuffling be necessary. Harvell started games at second, third and short as well as every outfield spot. KNOW YOUR NEWCOMERS Six Lancers made their debuts on opening weekend. Connar Bastaich, has started all ten games at first base and has reached in each of those ten games. Bastaich has already knocked in six runs as a Lancer. The smooth-swinging first baseman went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI in the rubber match of the series. Bastaich currently holds the second-highest on-base percentage on the club at.400. As for the freshman, Michael Catlin figures to play a big role on the mound for the Lancers in Other notables include outfielder Hayes Nelson, who produced tremendous numbers at Hidden Valley High School in Roanoke, and infielder Sammy Miller who was battling for the job at shortstop in the fall. Catlin has quickly emerged as a reliable arm. The rookie southpaw has tossed 9.0 innings with a 3.00 ERA. Catlin picked up his first collegiate victory in Longwood s comeback win over James Madison. The following weekend, Catlin won his first career start by throwing 5.1 innings and allowing just two runs on two hits. Michael Osinski has started five games at shortstop for the Lancers. The rookie had his biggest day of the season going 3-for-4 with two RBI against on Sunday. The Vestal, N.Y. native is particularly good in the field with a strong arm. In the outfield, Hayes Nelson and Tyler Barry will provide solid depth behind the trio of veterans who will patrol the yard in Barry holds the Virginia High School League record for RBI in a single game with 11. TEE NAMED TO PERFECT GAME S TOP 100 LISTS Aaron Myers and Brandon Vick were picked to be among the top 100 senior prospects in college baseball by Perfect Game. Myers fell in at No. 45 while Vick was slotted at No. 78. Kyri Washington made an appearance on the junior list at No. 71. Perfect Game s top 100 prospects list is compiled based on projected Major League potential and not on past numerical performance. UNC Asheville had 37 hit batters to nearly double-up the Lancers in 11th. The 21 hit batsmen were also the fewest in the country amongst all Division I schools. Only 28 schools in ANY NCAA Classification were hit by pitch fewer than 21 times. That means the Lancers ranked 887 out of 915 schools which play NCAA sanctioned baseball. To this point in 2015, the Lancers have already been hit-by-pitch 11 times. That puts the blue and white on pace for 61 hits batsmen, nearly three times more than last season s total. LONGWOOD TABS PAIR OF SENIORS AS 2015 CAPTAINS The Lancers have selected seniors Aaron Myers and Travis Biddix as the 2015 team captains. Myers will lead the Lancers in the weekend rotation as the Friday night starter. The righty went 7-4 with a 1.76 ERA in Myers has a chance to go down as one of the best pitchers in Longwood history with a solid senior campaign. Biddix is a middle infielder who has seen time with the Lancers in each of his previous three seasons. Biddix most productive season came as a freshman when he was one of three players to start all 48 games. He hit 250 with 14 RBI and scored 30 runs.

Known for his raw power, especially to the pull field, Washington clubbed all three of his long balls to the opposite field. Washington is over halfway to his 2014 home run total of seven long balls. DOUBLING DOWN Kyri Washington posted 18 two-baggers in Washington now owns two of the top eight marks in Longwood s single season record book for doubles. The junior left fielder ripped his first double of the season in game three of the series. That gives Washington 36 career doubles. At this pace, Washington is on track to shatter the career doubles record of 57, currently held by Adrian Watikins. Washington should break into the top-10 this season, needing 10 doubles to reach 10th place Brian Medley. BIDDIX BECOMING A PRESENCE Senior Travis Biddix has had a long and winding road during his time at Longwood. Biddix started every game as a freshman, but is just now returning to the everday lineup for the first time since his rookie yera. Biddix hit the game-tying home run in the top of the ninth at JMU. Longwood s co-captain opened the season with a career-long seven game hit streak. That mark is also the longest by any Lancer this season. TRIPLE TEAt Second baseman C.J. Roth is closing in on the top-10 in career triples. The junior has five three-baggers in his first two seasons as a Lancer. Roth needs two triples to reach a tie for 10th in the record books. TWO-OUT TALLIES The Lancers have scored 17 times with two outs in their first ten ball games. Longwood has knocked 37 two-out hits over the first seven games, good for a.316 clip. Travis Biddix and Michael Osinski lead the way at.500, going 4-for-8 in two-out situations. Brandon Delk has six two-out knocks to top the list for the Lancers. Five Lancers have two, two-out RBI thus far. Biddix, Konvicka, Delk, Washington and Lewis each have plated a pair of runs with two down this season. SURPRISING SLUGGEr One of fall ball s biggest surprises was transfer Connar Bastaich. The Midlothian native comes to Longwood after a stop at Potomac State College of WVU, and quickly earned the starting nod at first. Bastaich hit.360 in his final season at Potomac State. The junior has also displayed above-average pop, proving a capable replacement for Alex Owens, who graduated following last season. Bastaich has spent the first seven games in the two spot in Longwood s order. The newcomer already has four RBI as a Lancer and has displayed a nifty glove at first. SETTING THE TABLE C.J. Roth was a big part of Longwood s offensive success the first weekend. Roth hit.417 out of the leadoff spot and score three runs. Since taking over the leadoff spot, Colton Konvicka has gone 5-for-16 with six runs scored and an RBI.
