HEROIN If you consume heroin, be careful: Generally chasing the dragon is less risky than shooting up Don t have anyone else prepare your dose Take your time: Wash your hands Use new material (syringes, needles, foil...) 8

If you shoot up: Try to change veins Use your own materials, never share Prepare the material: clean the spoon or tin well, use cold water and a clean fi lter and make sure there aren t any lumps When injecting yourself: make sure it is a vein: veins don t beat. If you feel burning and the blood is very red, then it is an artery. Remove the needle carefully and press down on the area for a long while For chasing the dragon : If you have asthma or lung problems, smoking can cause a serious attack Use new foil, the thicker the better. Heat it a bit before putting the heroin on it Don t share the pipe If you can t stop consuming heroin, methadone may help you 9

COCAINE Consuming cocaine makes you not hungry. Eat Consuming alcohol and cocaine together is very harmful to your heart Cocaine can make you paranoid It is generally better to sniff than to smoke and to smoke rather than shoot up When you snort: Cut it up well and make small lines, rocks can damage your nose Don t share the straw, as it can transmit HIV and hepatitis Alternate nostrils to hurt your nose less Breathe in a bit of warm water up your nose to clean the remains out 12

If you freebase: Don t share the pipes or tins that you are smoking from, as cold sores or cuts on the lips can transmit HIV, hepatitis B and C and tuberculosis Let the pipe cool down after using it before you smoke again In general, it is preferable to smoke instead of injecting yourself If you mainline: Try to change veins Use your own material, never share them Prepare the material: clean the spoon or tin well; use cold water and a clean fi lter and make sure there are no lumps When shooting up: make sure it is a vein: veins don t beat. Always consult your doctor 14

PREVENTING AN OVERDOSE If you have not consumed in a while, do a smaller dose. Chasing the dragon is better because you can stop when you are high Avoid consuming when you are alone or in an isolated place so that there is help around if anything happens If you are not sure about the quality of the substance, fi rst take a tiny bit and wait to see what happens Don t mix drugs 15
