3 program Tuesday, November 12, :00-8:45 Registration 8:45-9:00 Welcome + Announcements 9:00-10:00 a) Space, Design & People Joanna Iberra Joanna Ibarra earned her Masters Degree at FIU in Landscape Architecture. She is an adjunct professor at her alma mater. She will discuss the following: spatial structure; mass and void; the three space-defining components - earth, plants and structures; spatial progression/sequence and spatial involvement by people. 10:00-11:00 b) Principles&Elements of Landscape Design Joanna Iberra This lecture includes landscape design theory, the approach to design and the evolution of the design process. Also included is the organization of space for use and beauty and with a discussion of the art elements: balance, contrast, dominance, proportion, rhythm and scale. 11:00-11:15 Break 11:15-12:15 c) Developing Your Home/Private Grounds Pamela Crawford Well known author and Vanderbilt graduate, Pamela Crawford also earned her Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture from FIU. She joins us today for a discussion of the basic steps in planning a landscape. This includes securing the plot plan: determining easements, utility lines and underground wires; draining & paving; existing structures and plantings. Also included is the determination of environmental conditions; views that may be emphasized or hidden and, finally, planning for current and future needs. 12:15-1:00 Lunch 1:00-2:00 d) Basics of Site Plan Joanna Ibarra Methods for simple site measurements are discussed. Common design documents including a review of the symbols and other aspects of making and reading landscape plans. Also Computer-aided Design (CAD) 2:00-3:00 e) Color in the Landscape Pamela Crawford This lecture on color highlights color perception, color wheel and color's emotional impact; color variations in foliage, flower, fruit, stem/trunk and other landscape materials. 4 Wednesday, November 13, :00-8:30 Registration, Announcements, Directions 8:30-9:00 Travel 9:00-10:30 j) Special Interest Lecture/ Field Trip David Murakami A special field trip and guided tour of the Miramar TownHall Center by nationally and internationally known landscape architect David Murikami who developed this public space. David's Masters Degree is in Landscape Architecture and he has studied at Harvard and the University of Oregon. 10:30-11:30 g) Public Landscapes Devin Cejas Devin earned his Masters of Landscape Architecture from FIU. He will discuss with us the role of designers in public spaces, libraries, churches; areas of planning from streets and medians to public art. He will touch on the importance of municipal codes as well as the management and maintenance of public landscape spaces including the critical impact of public usage and coordination between agencies. 11:30-12:15 Lunch 12:15-1:15 f) Design for the Environment William Reeve Certified Landscape Designer, William Reeve, will lead our discussion of the execution of design plans within the environment with emphasis on plant ecology, sound water management practices and energy conservation. 1:15-2:15 h) Development of Landscape Design Angelina Lopez Catledge Angelina received her Masters In Horticulture from LSU. She will lead our history sector with an emphasis on the evolution of landscape design and its influence by environmental and societal factors. The history will include the importance of the Medieval period of protective enclosures and the influence of Italian and French factors. 2:15-3:15 i) Landscape Design Resources William Reeve & Jennifer Mennuti Jennifer's degree from VPI is in Ornamental Horticulture. Jennifer and William will bring their expertise to our discussion of various design professions, training and standards.
