3 Partnership with Friends of CRTS Friends of Chinese Reformed Theological Seminaries is our mission board since We supply teachers & facilities for Reformed seminaries serving the Chinese people. We have no administrative fees since our board members and treasurer volunteer their time.

4 Taiwan life and culture Bethany School We ve lived in Taipei City 16 years (far right center on picture). Its about 2 miles to Bethany School (K-9 th ). Population 4 million, + 7 million surrounding counties home

6 Our oldest daughter Val is married to Jeff Jones, with grandkids Savannah, Garrett and Blake Family Natalie and Doug Hoffer L to R: Jonathan, Karen, Janine, Trisha, Barbara, Nathan, Tim Having and raising kids (& grandkids) has been/will be the biggest impact of our missionary work, both for us and as a witness within Chinese culture!

7 Family Valerie is married to Jeff Jones. They have daughter Savannah (7) and son Garrett (3), & Blake (8 months) They have lived near us in Taipei, but moved back to the US in June 2015 so Jeff can finish his secondary school history teaching degree requirements (student teaching)

8 Family Natalie & husband Doug Hoffer Natalie, Janine, Valerie & Karen... older Yates sisters! Natalie is married to Doug Hoffer. They live in the Wheaton IL area. Natalie is working as a paralegal for a law firm that does foreclosures. Doug finished his M.A. Biblical Exegesis at Wheaton ( 12) and University of Chicago Divinity School s M.A. program ( 14), and was accepted into their PhD program fall 2014.

9 Family Jonathan gradated from Wheaton College ( 12) with majors in Geology & International Relations. He lived with us Taiwan from November 2012-August 2014 to do English tutoring & substitute teaching at Bethany. He returned stateside to work various jobs in CA in Sept 2014, plans to get married to Kaitlyn Le Baudour on August 1, They both have been accepted to USC Davis campus MA International Agriculture program for the fall 2015 and hope to get TA jobs on campus to cover tuition and living expenses.

10 Family Janine graduated as a Sociology major from Covenant College in May. She is happily dating Nathan Clark She moved to Wheaton IL to live with Nat & Doug in to work.

11 Family Karen gradated from Morrison Academy ( 13) and took a gap year to do missions service in the Philippines. She is a rising sophomore at Wheaton College interested in missions, anthropology, international relations and Christian Education.

12 Family Trisha and nephew Blake Trisha and niece Savannah Trisha (10) has attended Morrison Academy Taipei since 3 rd grade, now a rising 5 th grader. She enjoys reading, creative crafts, piano and basketball

13 Family Nathan (8) is a rising 3 rd grader at Morrison Academy, Taipei He enjoys soccer and computer games like Minecraft and Super Mario Galaxy Nathan and nephew Garrett

14 Family Barbara has been managing the home, trying to start a small online business, tutoring Chinese students in English and substitute teaching at Bethany School. She has attended Bible Study Fellowship group weekly the past four years.

15 Why is CRTS needed? The churches need leaders who can understand and interpret the Bible. The churches need leaders who can apply the God-centered gospel to work and relationships. We are the only Reformed seminary teaching in Mandarin outside China. CRTS is sending about 5 graduates/yr into full time ministry as pastors, church planters, pastor s wives & counseling center directors... Impact is multiplying! Asian Theological Association accredited degrees since May 2013: Master of Divinity; M.A s in New Testament, Old Testament, Biblical Counseling, Christian Studies, Bachelor of Theology (B.Th.) 17 Tim is full-time Academic Dean at China Reformed Theological Seminary Administrative work with faculty, the CRTS Board and other committees. Improving CRTS using ATA recommendations. Advise office staff & oversee students. Host recent visiting faculty: Poythress, Robertson, Duguid, Waters, Gaffin, Sam Ling. Write articles for the CRTS magazine. 18 Ministry: CRTS I serve as Dean of the Biblical Counseling program, I design the curriculum, teach, arrange mini-class teachers, supervise interns, and supervise student graduation theses. As Dean of Distance Learning, I oversee the video recording of all M.A./ThM classes and revised the course requirements for distance students. Teaching Biblical Theology & Counseling, Spring 2015

19 Teaching Ministry: CRTS I teach all classes in spoken Mandarin since 1998 (3 classes/semester) I teach eight counseling courses in a two year cycle: Counseling Theology, Biblical Theology & Counseling, Critique Counseling Theories, Pastoral Counseling, Marriage counseling, Parenting, Youth Counseling, and Marketplace Ministry, plus a Case Studies discussion class each semester. I teach one other mini-class each winter term: Reformed Faith & Life, Ecclesiastes, John s Theology 2013 graduation

23 Multiplying! Family Counseling Center In the summer of 2004, we hired our first M.A. Biblical Counseling graduate Lily Zheng half-time to start a Family Counseling Center. She began full time work in 2007, started another center in HsinChu 3 years ago, and now another full time staff member in Taipei. I am the consulting advisor for the FCC. We offer counseling to the public, train the CRTS counseling interns, publish our own Journal of Biblical Counseling and host seminars, lectures and team teach counseling classes for churches and ministries on family related topics. I give one of the seminar talks each time which become the JBC articles. 24 Other Related Ministries I also preach and officiate weddings at local Chinese churches. I travel into China, Singapore and Malaysia to teach mini-classes or seminars when invited (usually 1-2x/year).
