1 Policies & procedures for the admission of students to post-graduate degrees Unless expressly noted otherwise, the following policies & procedures will apply with regard to all post-graduate qualifications offered at Perspektief Training College (PTC). 1. PTC IS AUTHORISED TO CONFER THE FOLLOWING POST- GRADUATE QUALIFICATIONS: 1.1 Degrees B Div in Biblical Counseling M Div in Biblical Counseling 2. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 2.1 A prospective learner applies for admission to PTC by completing and signing the prescribed application form and handing it in at the administration office together with the prescribed application and selection fees or proof of payment. Completed documentation may be mailed (registered mail) or electronically scanned and ed. Only verified documentation will be accepted. 2.2 No application for admission will be accepted unless the applicant has complied with the requirements in terms of and/or the conditions in terms of Any person who has been admitted to PTC for post-graduate studies and has been registered as such will remain a learner of PTC until a qualification has been obtained or the learner or PTC has terminated the learner s association with PTC. 2.4 Application for admission by applicants in the post-graduate categories: No application for admission to post-graduate degree programmes will be accepted unless the applicant, in addition to any further requirements in terms of the rules laid down by PTC, is in possession of: For honours programmes: To qualify for admission to an honours programme, a learner must be in possession of an under-graduate degree in an appropriate field or its equivalent as approved by PTC s Board of Directors. PTC may refuse admission if the standard of competence that a prospective learner has previously attained does not comply with the requirements.
2 Master s programmes: To qualify for admission to a master s programme, a learner must be in possession of an honours degree in an appropriate field or its equivalent as approved by PTC s Board of Directors. Under certain circumstances, a learner with a four-year under-graduate degree may be considered for admission to a master's programme. 2.5 Provisions with regard to language proficiency: A person who wishes to register for a study programme without having produced proof, either in the matriculation examination or in a language proficiency test, of sufficient proficiency in the language in which the programme concerned is offered, may be afforded conditional admission to such programme for a maximum period of one year, provided that a prescribed study programme aimed at the empowerment of the person in such language be completed to the satisfaction of PTC, upon payment of the prescribed fees and at a time and in a manner determined by PTC Non-compliance with a condition in terms of this provision will result in the cancellation of the learner s admission and registration without any refund of fees. 3. REGISTRATION 3.1 No registration for any post-graduate programme before admission (evaluation of application): No person will be registered as a learner unless such person has already been admitted as a learner to a specific programme. 3.2 Annual registration: A learner who has been admitted must register annually for the duration of the study for a specific study programme at the time and place determined by PTC for that purpose, by paying the prescribed registration fee, completing and filing the registration form with PTC with the required signatures affixed. Proof of registration will then be handed to the learner. 3.3 Registration according to rules and compliance with requirements: A learner must register on the date of registration in accordance with the rules of the programme concerned as set out in respect of that programme. It is the personal responsibility of the learner to ensure that all requirements for registration in respect of such a programme are complied with A learner will not be registered for a module unless the requirements with regard to assumed learning described for that module have been complied with. 3.4 Acceptance of binding force of rules and resolutions of PTC:
3 All learners signing the official registration form confirm their acceptance of all rules and resolutions of PTC as binding upon them for the duration of their study period at PTC. 3.5 Amendment of registration: A learner may, with the approval of the director(s) concerned, change his/her registration within the period determined annually by PTC A learner who has not completed the programme for acquiring the qualification in respect of which the learner has been registered, may apply in writing to the registrar for the conferral of another qualification for which the necessary credits have been acquired A learner who joins PTC after having completed only a portion of a programme at another institution of higher education may, with a view to further study at PTC, apply in writing for recognition of modules, provided that not more than half of the number of modules required for the programme and which have been passed at another institution of higher education, may be recognised. 3.6 Renewal of registration in the year in which the qualification may be obtained: A learner who must still be granted an oral/written examination in any module and/or submit a minidissertation, dissertation or thesis for examination in the year in which the qualification may be obtained, can not register for the following academic year and should not pay any registration fee in respect thereof When such a learner does not pass the examination and continues with his/her studies, the registration must be reviewed in terms of the rules laid down by PTC. 3.7 Simultaneous registration at more than one institution: Before a learner may register simultaneously at PTC and another institution of higher education, consent to do so must first be obtained in writing from both. 3.8 Simultaneous registration for more than one qualification: Before a learner may register simultaneously for more than one qualification, the consent to do so must first be obtained in writing from all institutions involved. 4. HONOURS DEGREES 4.1 Admission and registration: In addition to , the following applies: A learner who intends to register for an honours degree must obtain permission to undertake the study from the Managing Director, who will in this regard act in consultation with the Director of Academics The Managing Director may refuse admission to a programme if the standard of competence which a prospective learner has previously
4 4 attained in the subject(s) in which the learner wants to undertake further study, does not comply with the programme requirements concerned. 4.2 Study periods and required credits for modules and programmes: For an honours degree a minimum of 120 credits are required, of which at least 96 must be credits on level The minimum duration is one year and maximum duration is two years. 4.3 Repetition of modules: A learner, within the maximum study period of two years, may in the case of failing (a) module(s) once only repeat modules not exceeding 25% of the modules of the programme In the case of a module not passed, a learner who repeats any module must obtain written permission from the PTC Director of Academics for repeating that module. For admission to the examination in such module, the learner must obtain a participation mark or comply with other requirements laid down by the Director of Academics in respect of that module If a learner who repeats a module does not pass the examination in that module during the next examination period, it will be considered a fail. 5. MASTER S DEGREES 5.1 Admission and registration: In addition to , the following applies: A learner who intends to register for a master s degree must obtain consent to undertake the study from the Managing Director, who must in this regard act in consultation with the Director of Academics A learner who registers for the first time for the master s degree must do so before 31 January of the year concerned. Re-registration for further study years must take place annually before or on 31 January Should a learner in any year fail to re-register as a learner before or on 31 January, the Director of Academics may, in consultation with the Managing Director, allocate the topic of the minidissertation or dissertation, if already registered, to another learner A learner who does not register before 31 January, must again apply to PTC for admission. 5.2 Approval of the study programme: For a master s degree a minimum of 120 credits are required, of which at least 96 credits must be on level Unless decided otherwise by the Managing Director, in consultation with the Director of Academics, a learner for a master s degree must follow an
5 5 approved study programme offered within the appropriate research focus area, or as otherwise offered by PTC In the case of a programme requiring examination papers as well as a minidissertation, the latter must unless provided otherwise entail at least 32 but not more than 64 credits. In such a programme the minidissertation must in every case represent at least 50% of the total number of credits In a case where a learner is allowed to submit a dissertation or minidissertation in the form of (a) published research article(s) or unpublished manuscript(s) in article format, the dissertation or mini-dissertation must be planned in such a way that it will still in all respects comply with the requirements for such a document A learner who has been admitted to a master s degree must work under supervision of a study leader appointed by the Director of Academics or the Managing Director Subject to and unless provided otherwise by the College rules, a learner who has been admitted to study for a master s degree must, within six months after registration as a learner and in consultation with the Director of Academics, submit a research proposal for approval by the Board of Directors Failure by any learner to submit a research proposal in terms of will result in the termination of the study If a learner, in an appropriate case, is required to complete the examination paper portion of the study for a master s degree first, the learner must within three months after completion of the examination paper portion submit the research proposal for approval in terms of Duration of study programme: The maximum duration is three years and minimum duration is two years.
