Enter the PYMNTS.com Developer Tracker TM, powered by Vantiv. The Developer Tracker is designed to provide merchants with a view into the breadth and depth of ecommerce and commerce-related software developers. We segmented the developer community into three broad categories: Shopping and Payments, Operations, and Marketing. We then profiled 29 developers. Each month we will add more. We have also included highlights of recent news related to the developer community to keep you on top of new product launches, partnerships, investments, and other happenings. 3 COVER STORY COVER STORY Innovation is like a fine meal prepared by chefs at a three-star Michelin-rated restaurant having someone skilled prepare a fabulous dining experience which eliminates the hassle of consumers trying to do it themselves at home. Stretching that analogy to the day-to-day retail payments and how consumers buy and pay for things, innovation in digital payments, too, is focused on eliminating friction on the part of the consumer without them having to do much more than just enjoy the experience. Thanks to the efforts of innovators - and the tools and enabling platforms available to them - the friction of creating those solutions from scratch is eliminated. With the new Developer Tracker powered by Vantiv, we at PYMNTS go behind the scenes to learn how a plan becomes a product. And for our debut series, we spoke to Ryerson Schlitt, product manager at TableSafe, which provides secure payment solutions to full service restaurants. The Seattle-based startup went to market with its product in 2013 and recently raised $4.5 million in its third round of funding. The company plans to upgrade its flagship product RAIL, a pay-at-the-table device equipped with point-to-point encryption, a mag stripe reader as well as EMV chip reader and NFC capabilities. So how do developers know what problem to solve? By finding a gap technology can fill. For TableSafe, that was security payments at full-service restaurants. We wanted to make an efficient solution, something we could build off of and bring it up to current levels of technology while preparing it for what will be new down the road, said Schlitt. From there on, it s like building LEGO blocks. Based on the feedback the team received from partners and prospective clients, TableSafe s device was beefed up to include functionalities for loyalty programs, making incremental purchases at the table and the ability to read QR codes. But the process isn t as easy as it sounds. The key for decision-making of what trade-offs need to be made depends on the functionality and making sure the client and the developer team have agreed upon reasoning between one path or the other. When TableSafe s product was first launched, clients wanted integration with third-party apps to better engage with customers, to bring gift cards and loyalty into its fold. While all of that and more was accommodated, the process typically gets muddled with conflicting and competing interests, priorities and technology. For instance, the TableSafe team has a product priority meeting every week where feedback is reviewed and prioritized according to a development queue with other partners and stakeholders. Key factors considered during the process are: A) What s going to bring the device to market quickest; B) The incremental revenue that the product can add; C) How easily it adapts to the needs of other customers. The team then works on a two-week turnaround time for development, balancing client demands with their own product roadmap. We asked Schlitt to explain, Code bases are large and developed a long time ago. Some do a good job of keeping their code open and accessible, but often, these are outdated. And when you use newer technology on one end and have to make it interact with an outdated software, it can be challenging. And sometimes this integration support is the hardest piece to work with, as a developer, especially given the competing interests and different priorities. And that s a hard balance to strike to not chase after every shiny object and focus on the ones that will scale. It s a hard balance to strike, especially if that s what the customer wants. Sometimes the bright shining object will lead to acceleration in scaling. Not because it truly adds the most value or scalability, but because it is important to a customer or stakeholder that holds a great deal of volume or clout, says Schlitt. And the challenge there becomes making good on that promise. The key in that scenario is to take an approach of validating that the shiny object actually does provide value or additional market opportunity PYMNTS.COM ALL RIGHTS RESERVED 3

It helps apps handling sensitive user data by securing the data exchange between the user device and the cloud independently of the device or operating system used. CONTACTLESS PAYMENTS CATCHING ON IN THE UK Contactless payments in the U.K. grew by 560 percent on a year-on-year transaction value basis, in contrast to the 373 percent increase in the year to July COIN 2.0 ARRIVING WITH NFC TECHNOLOGY The payment device, which can store data from multiple cards, has announced the release of its second-generation EMV product incorporating NFC technology. PAPER CHECKS STAY STRONG BETWEEN X-BORDER PAYMENTS 47 percent of U.S. businesses still rely on the use of paper checks for cross-border payments, in contrast to the U.K., where 70 percent of businesses process international payments electronically. EQUIFAX AND DANAL WANT TO MAKE ECOMMERCE EASIER To make mobile commerce easier, Equifax and Danal have been working together to develop a service that by the authentication of the mobile device number and the subscriber using it, will auto complete relevant data on registration and payment forms. INGOGO TAKES A STEP INTO B2B PAYMENTS MOBILIZATION The Australian company launched Pay RIGHT AWAY, a mobile app allowing mobile B2B payments supporting major credit card companies and including contactless payment technology PYMNTS.COM ALL RIGHTS RESERVED 4

5 NEWS HIGHLIGHTS CONT DONDE FASHION IS OFFERING A NEW WAY OF SHOPPING The Donde fashion app allows shoppers to search items based not on text, but on icons representing options such as color, length, pattern and more. REVEL SYSTEMS RAISES $13.5M ROTH Capital Partners has invested $13.5 million in the ipad point-of-sale provider. Revel's POS platform offers varied services such as complete front-end order entry, payment processing and inventory management. SALESFORECE TO INTRODUCE PAY BUTTONS With the Salesforce Community Cloud, businesses can create sites where they can interact directly with customers. The platform now allows customers to feature their own buy buttons. NTN BUZZTIME IS JUMPING INTO PAYMENTS The game tablet provider that works with restaurants wants to add payment features to their products, allowing users to checkout, split tabs and pay the bill. OPERATIONS NEWS ACI WORLDWIDE JOINING COMPUTOP IN FIGHTING FRAUD ReD Shield, the fraud prevention solution powered by ACI Worldwide, will be integrated into Computop Paygate, giving consumers greater information about consumers activity and fraud risk. MARKETING NEWS MCX IS ADDING DIGITAL PROMOTIONS TO CURRENTC By teaming up with Inmar, the payment platform will allow its users to use promotions when paying with the app PYMNTS.COM ALL RIGHTS RESERVED 5

Their solution, Score, is the statistical brain of their services: It calculates the probability of fraud for each transaction and it assigns a manual review of the most dangerous ones. Ctuit gives finance, marketing, operations and accounting departments insights that can improve customer satisfaction, sales and margins. Invodo Storefront / Marketing YEAR LAUNCHED 2007 HEADQUARTERS Austin, Texas With interactive videos gaining popularity in the music industry, Invodo comes to offer them to the ecommerce market.
