1 Sharps Disposal

2 Introduction PHS Waste Management provides a responsive, reliable and flexible sharps disposal services to help eliminate injuries from sharps, needles and syringes. Conscious of our Duty of Care to our customers and the environment, we make sure your waste is disposed of safely and in the most environmentally sustainable way. Wherever possible, all of your sharps waste will be sent for incineration. Waste Type Classification Colour Coding Disposal Method Infectious Clinical Infectious clinical waste that poses a risk to human health, such as contaminated swabs, dressings and wipes Incineration Infectious Clinical Infectious waste that can be treated prior to disposal, such as contaminated swabs, dressings, masks, gowns and catheters May be treated before incineration Offensive/Non Infectious Non infectious nappy, incontinence, sanitary and swabs etc. Deep Landfill Pharmaceutical* Cytotoxic and Cytostatic drugs Dental Non hazardous pharmaceutical waste or controlled drugs Any drugs that are toxic or surpress cell growth, such as anti-virals, immunosuppressants, steroids, hormone medicines and cancer treatments Waste services specifically designed for the collection and disposal of amalgam, lead foil, x-ray and precious wastes produced by dentists Denaturing if the drugs are controlled, then incinerated Incineration Incineration or recycle * Please note that our pharmaceutical waste container is green but still complies with latest legislation and is compliant with correct disposal routes. It is nationally recognised and excepted by the Environment Agency. 3 Orange Lidded Sharps Bins The PHS Wastemanagement sharps bins offer a simple and convenient way to ensure that sharps waste is dealt with appropriately. By placing sharps in these distinctive containers, you can rest assured that this waste is stored correctly and safely. The container is suitable for sharps with no medicinal residue but is not appropriate for sharps with cyto medicinal residue. 5 Cytotoxic Waste Containers PHS Wastemanagement provides a range of specialist containers to allow you to effectively identify and segregate any cytotoxic or cytostatic waste you may produce. These units are highly visible and clearly labelled to encourage the correct identification and segregation. When ready for disposal, ensure the lid is securely sealed. Health and Safety Precautions: These units are designed for easy use and closure once ready for disposal. Users should follow instructions and always treat cytotoxic waste carefully, keeping it segregated from other waste.

6 Sharps Spillage Kit PHS Wastemanagement offers a convenient Sharps Spillage Kit, designed to safely deal with discarded needles and syringes. Produced in conjunction with St John Cymru Wales, it contains everything required to safely collect and store loose or discarded syringes. Product Information 169mm x 105mm x 52mm Users should utilise each component of the Kit as per enclosed instructions, to securely collect and remove loose and discarded syringes. All waste should then be collected and disposed of only by an authorised Waste Management company. Kit Contents 1 x 0.45l sharps bin 1 x 30ml disinfectant spray 1 x pair protective gloves 1 x pair plastic tweezers 1 x antiseptic cleansing wipe 1 x yellow clinical waste bag Full instructions for use Health and Safety Precautions: Users should ensure that syringes are handled very carefully, utilising the gloves and tweezers provided in the Kit. No attempt should be made to remove needles once deposited within the Kit and it should be fully sealed prior to disposal.

7 Cytotoxic Spillage Kit PHS Wastemanagement offer a kit designed to provide all the necessary items to safely and quickly manage any cytotoxic drug spillages. Product Information 218mm x 316mm x 192mm Users should utilise each component of the Kit as per enclosed instructions, to securely collect and remove cytotoxic spill. All waste must be disposed of in a clearly labelled Cytotoxic Waste container in accordance with legislation. Kit Contents 2 x shakers CT-Zorb granules 1 x tub of surface wipes 15 x dispo-bags 15 x scoops & scrapers 1 x roll of hazard warning tape 15 x protective aprons 15 x protective anti-splash facemasks 50 x protective nitrile gloves Full instructions for use Health and Safety Precautions: Users should ensure that the protective clothing and gloves provided are used, and that the spill is dealt with quickly to ensure that the hazard is contained.
