1 FACULTY REGULATIONS AND PROCEDURES SALARY INCREMENTS ANNUAL INCREMENTS -- Annual salary increments for teaching experience will be paid full-time instructional personnel according to the following schedule: 1. Bachelor's Degree - $178 for the first five years experience. 2. Master's Degree - $670 for the first ten years experience and $480 for the second ten years. 3. Doctor's Degree - $772 for the first ten years experience and $576 for the second ten years. CONTRACT ADJUSTMENTS -- Faculty contracts will not be adjusted until the next contract period when completion or attainment of higher degree occurs during the academic year. PRIOR EXPERIENCE -- A maximum of five years of experience acquired in public schools will be accepted for salary increment purposes. No experience credit will be given for summer, evening, part-time or elementary school instruction. Only five years (at least five months) will be counted. A maximum of ten years of college or university teaching experience will be accepted for salary purposes. A combination of five years of secondary public school experience and college or university experience may also be accepted as maximum year s experience. Vocational-technical instructors who at the time of employment have experience which is evaluated as equal to a master's degree may, upon completion of a master's degree in their teaching field, receive experience increments on the same basis as academic instructors. 2 SALARY INCREMENTS POST-GRADUATE STUDY INCREMENTS -- An additional $125 will be paid for each six semester hours of graduate work completed beyond the master's degree in an instructor's teaching field as shown in the following schedule: 6 semester hours = $ semester hours = $ semester hours = $ semester hours = $ semester hours = $1,000 - maximum SPECIAL INCREMENTS -- A special increment of $1,038 (Masters Level) and $1,071 (Doctorate Level) will be paid at the completion of five, ten, fifteen and twenty years of service with the college, provided that at least six hours of graduate work in the appropriate teaching field were completed during each five year period. However, the six hours required for this increment may not be counted for an additional $125 increment. Forty-eight clock hours earned in the appropriate teaching field in an approved technicalvocational school will equal three semester hours for the purpose of salary increments for technical-vocational instructors. Instructors with a bachelor's degree will be paid $353 for each twelve semester hours earned toward a master's degree up to a maximum of $717 in the teaching field. For the purpose of salary increments, academic employees with a doctor's degree or with twenty-four or more semester hours above a master's degree may substitute forty-eight clock hours of attendance at a professional seminar for three semester hours of graduate credit. The seminar must be sponsored by a state or nationally recognized professional or discipline based group or organization and should be of subject matter directly related to the employee's teaching field, position/office at the college, or should be for the purpose of instructional improvement and enhancement. Attendance at the seminars should be approved by the Dean of Instructional Services and a follow up record of attendance should be submitted to the Dean. Whenever possible CEU credits should be earned. ADOPTED: August 04 REVISED: August 07 2 of 3
3 SALARY INCREMENTS OVERLOAD ASSIGNMENT POLICY -- The following overload assignment policy will be used to calculate the number of extra classes a faculty may teach. Instructional Contact Hour = ICH: 1 Lecture Hour = 1 ICH 1 Lab Hour = ½ ICH A maximum of 21 ICH's will be calculated for determining overload classes. Example: Chemistry Instructor Instructional Lecture Hrs. Lab Hrs. Contact Hrs. Regular Load Class One Class Two Class Three Total /2=6 15 Overload Class Four /2=2 5 Total Regular & Overload 20 Any deviation from this criteria (going beyond 21 ICHs) will be determined in cooperation with the faculty member, Division Chair or Associate Dean, and the Dean of Instructional Services using the following criteria: 1. Number of preparations 2. Number of students 3. Lab requirements 4. Travel time 5. Total contact hours (affected by travel) 6. Number of courses taught outside (taught at other institutions) 7. Consideration of release time (paid release time for some personnel). ADOPTED: August 04 REVISED: June 02 3 of 3
4 FACULTY REGULATIONS AND PROCEDURES SPECIAL FACULTY EMPLOYMENT AND SALARY Effective September 1, 2002, the following categories of non-tenured track teaching positions are available as at -will employees: FULL-TIME NON-TENURED TRACK INSTRUCTORS -- Full-time non-tenured track instructor positions will be paid at the same rate as tenured track instructor positions and will be eligible for full benefits. These positions are assigned for one semester only and there is no expectation for employment beyond the assigned semester. These positions do not create tenure rights or academic rank for the employees assigned to these positions. Employment in these positions may be discontinued at the end of each semester and the procedures related to termination during an un-expired term and nonrenewal for other non-tenured positions do not apply. Employees not assigned to fifty percent or more instructional duties will also be considered to be employed in non-tenured track positions. SUBSTITUTE INSTRUCTORS Substitute instructors shall not be responsible for developing course syllabi nor have committee assignments. The substitute instructor is required to use a current syllabus generated by a full-time instructor in the discipline. Substitute instructors shall be reimbursed on a pro-rated basis using the college s part-time pay scale. This temporary assignment carries no fringe benefits. PART-TIME INSTRUCTORS A part-time instructor with a bachelor's degree or equivalent in preparation shall receive $1,290 per three semester hour (or the equivalent in contact hours) course taught plus $290 for each semester lab hour taught. 2. A part-time instructor with a master's degree or equivalent in preparation shall receive $1,580 per three semester hour (or the equivalent in contact hours) course taught plus $290 for each semester lab hour taught. 5 SPECIAL FACULTY SALARY SCHEDULES semesters teaching experience at SWTJC will receive $1,655 per three semester hour course plus $327 for each semester lab hour taught. An instructor with a master's degree and 20 semester teaching experience at SWTJC will receive $1,726 for a three semester hour course plus $363 for each semester lab hour taught. 3. A part-time instructor with a doctorate degree shall receive $1,655 per three semester hour course plus $290 for each semester lab hour taught. An instructor with a doctorate degree and ten semesters teaching experience at SWTJC will receive $1,726 per three semester hour course taught plus $327 for each semester lab hour taught. An instructor with a doctorate degree and twenty semesters teaching experience at SWTJC will receive $1,798 per three hour course taught plus $363 for each semester lab hour taught. 4. Instructors on contracts designated as part-time shall be paid on a part-time basis according to per course compensation regardless of the number of courses taught.
