This state-of-the-art building is home to McMaster s MBA and Executive Education programs. The DeGroote Co-op MBA combines your MBA education with developmental, career-oriented work experience. The Co-op option integrates classroom theory with real-world applications, providing many opportunities to develop and expand your network. 14 MBA Program Sample Work Term Roles 12 Administrative Resident An administrative resident gains exposure to systemic health care issues, strategic planning and broad policy development with ongoing work in key areas of hospital funding, finance and information, and hospital management. Organizational and logistical tasks may include the development and monitoring of work plans, budget preparation, coordinating follow-up activities, and preparing committee meetings. Assistant Brand Equity Manager Assists in the development and execution of consumer communication strategies to support product launches and base brand business, working with internal stakeholders and external agencies. This role also includes the management of execution details for consumer and trade promotions with the Promotion Manager. Corporate Banking Associate Assists in providing high quality account management support to senior professionals and assists them with credit adjudication process through the analysis and structuring of transactions. Corporate banking associates are also responsible for researching industry and market data, completing credit applications, and analyzing the credit financial information of organizations. Marketing Analyst Responsible for coordinating and owning unique and strategic projects involving advertising, consumer insights, market research and target marketing through interaction with Brand and Communications Manager, and Senior Management. The 20-month program includes an emphasis on both the learning of business fundamentals, and the development of practical skills required for you to start your career. In the second year, students can select from one of several specializations allowing you to choose a field of study which enhances your skill profile. This option is intended for those who have at least one year of managerial, professional, or technical work experience. Transfer requests from other recognized MBA Programs will be considered on a case-by-case basis. It is expected that transfer applicants will first meet the DeGroote MBA admission requirements, and as such, you should follow the normal application procedures. Your Way. 15 For students wishing to complete their MBA but unable to commit to a full-time study schedule, the DeGroote Part-time option is an ideal alternative. Perhaps you want to remain in the workplace while studying. For your convenience, many MBA courses are offered in the daytime and evening in each of the 3 terms per year, allowing you to work while earning your degree. You may take up to two courses per term, with the option of taking entire terms off, if needed. You have up to eight years to complete your degree with most students taking 4-5 years to do so. The program offers several specializations, allowing you to choose a field of study which optimally enhances your current skills profile. Note: January admission is also available for part-time studies only. The application deadline is November 1st. Transfer requests from other recognized MBA Programs will be considered on a case-by-case basis. It is expected that transfer applicants will first meet the DeGroote MBA admission requirements, and as such, you should follow the normal application procedures. This option allows you to set your own study timetable, taking courses as your schedule allows. The Part-time MBA gives you the flexibility and balance you require.

18 MBA Program Accelerated MBA 16 If you have already completed an undergraduate degree in either business or commerce, or are a graduate of McMaster University s Engineering and Management program, you can earn your MBA degree in as little as 8 months of full-time study, or 20 months of part-time study. In order to be eligible for the Accelerated option, you must have: Obtained your undergraduate business degree from a recognized North American institution within the last 5 years, At least a B grade in your individual undergraduate required commerce/business and economics courses that equate to our first year curriculum, and A minimum of one year of managerial, professional, or technical work experience. Provided you meet all other admission criteria (which includes academic history, GMAT scores, work experience, and leadership capabilities), you may be admitted to the second year of the Full-time or Part-time program. Candidates with an international business degree should first apply to the regular Fulltime 20-course program. Eligibility for the Accelerated option will then be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. At the commencement of your studies, you will be able to choose a specialization which optimally enhances your current skills profile. The General MBA is also an option. Transfer requests from other recognized MBA Programs will be considered on a caseby-case basis. It is expected that transfer applicants will first meet the DeGroote MBA admission requirements, and as such, you should follow the normal application procedures. MBA Full-time Accelerated Term Sequencing Typically, full-time students will finish the Accelerated option in 8 months by completing 5 courses in each of the Fall and Winter semesters. This Transition Program consists of a series of introductory events, workshops, networking panels and social evenings to help acclimatize new MBA students to the program and to the campus. 21 Co-op Full-time Accelerated Part-time Pre-MBA Program for International Students At DeGroote, we recognize that it is particularly challenging for international students who have not previously experienced a North American education approach or culture to quickly transition and prepare to maximize their MBA journey. To ensure success, we require all newly admitted international students to attend the mandatory Pre-MBA Program for International Students. The DeGroote Pre-MBA Program is an intensive and highly interactive 10-day program designed to build confidence and develop business skills to prepare incoming MBA international students to meet the rigorous demands of our MBA program. The experience will be unique educational, inspirational, practical, and fun as you embark on your journey which begins in mid-august each year. 22 MBA Program Specializations 20 Accounting & Financial Management Services CMA - Management Accounting This specialization, which emphasizes the fundamental theories and current issues in corporate governance and financial reporting, opens doors to a variety of career options, such as financial reporting, public accounting, auditing and assurance, forensic accounting, taxation, business valuations or bankruptcy trusteeship. Other career opportunities include positions such as controller, financial analyst, treasury officer and other management accounting positions in forprofit and not-for-profit organizations. With the current emphasis in our society on financial literacy for corporate executives and board directors, the demand for highly skilled financial professionals will remain strong. Specialization in Accounting and Financial Management Services opens the door to the pursuit of professional accounting/financial designations such as Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Management Accountants (CMA), Certified General Accountant (CGA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and Chartered Business Valuator (CBV). This specialization prepares you for a career and certification as a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), while providing a fast-track opportunity to earn the MBA degree and CMA designation in less than two years. This specialization also provides excellent preparation for students as strategic business partners in an organization s senior management team. Co-op Full-time Accelerated Part-time 21 Finance General MBA As an integral and rapidly growing aspect of business activity, the Finance specialization is a popular choice for DeGroote MBA students. Graduates look forward to a wide variety of career opportunities, including investment management, investment banking, treasury and controllership, public sector financial analysis and management or management consulting. The General MBA takes a holistic approach to prepare you for positions that require the ability to co-ordinate and manage across several functional business areas. The General MBA is a popular choice for those who are looking to advance to upper levels of management, or for those who intend to start their own business or enterprise. DeGroote s Finance faculty ensures students acquire a wide range of skills and background knowledge to prepare for challenging and rewarding careers. Course offerings also provide most of the finance and economics preparation required to complete Levels I and II of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) syllabus.

24 MBA Program Health Services Management Management Information Systems (Not available in the Traditional Full-time option) The only MBA program of its type in the country, the DeGroote HSM specialization has become Canada s gold standard for graduate health management education. HSM combines expertise found in the DeGroote School of Business with hands-on training gained through work experience in either public or private health care organizations. The competent professional manager is a critical element in the framework of effective and efficient delivery of health services. If you are a co-op student, this solid MBA training may include selected graduate electives in health sciences or medical sciences, coupled with a range of work term experiences in the health sector designed to achieve specific educational objectives. If you are a Part-time student already employed as a manager in the sector, the application of the core MBA curriculum, along with the required courses and electives in health sciences, provide the skills to rapidly grow in the job while learning. DeGroote's alliance with the Canadian College of Health Service Executives (CCHSE) allows HSM students to fast track their Certified Health Executive designation while earning their MBA degree. An information system is an organized and interrelated set of components, which includes information technology and people's activities, to support operations, management, and decision-making. Information systems have become an integral part of doing business. The Management Information Systems (MIS) specialization provides you with the knowledge and skills you need to shape the effective implementation and use of information systems to facilitate the strategic objectives of organizations. The DeGroote Management Information Systems specialization will provide you with the requisite knowledge to act as a consultant and/or analyst. Through our alliance with SAP, the world's leading vendor of enterprise software, you have access to state-of-the-art SAP R/3 Enterprise software. Enterprise software, such as SAP, allows companies to gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace by integrating all business processes and optimizing the utilization of available resources. Students who take three SAP supported MBA courses are entitled to take a two-week course offered by SAP Canada to obtain certification in SAP Business Integration. This is an expedited way to achieve a highly desired certification that complements the MBA degree and makes you even more marketable.

25 Co-op Full-time Accelerated Part-time Management of Innovation and New Technology (MINT) Strategic Business Valuation 23 The innovative commercialization of science and technology in such sectors as pharmaceuticals, biotech, aerospace, telecommunications, software and electronics is revolutionizing how business is done. This specialization is intended for those who want to drive that revolution. It provides sufficient flexibility in the choice of electives to allow you to focus on the management of innovation, the management of science and technology in the industries mentioned above, or to pursue a customized mix of the two. Although many students with technical backgrounds take this specialization because it provides a unique way to leverage technical skills, a substantial number of students without technical backgrounds select it because it provides generalized capabilities for managing innovation. You may also take a minor in MINT that provides an excellent opportunity to add the innovation edge to your portfolio, enhancing the marketability of your area or specialization. The Strategic Business Valuation specialization is intended to train financial professionals in the best practices for business valuation. The focus is on inter-disciplinary models as well as investigative techniques and state-of-the-art approaches. The purpose is to profile firms accurately in order to identify those that meet rigorous standards of excellence and growth. The underlying philosophy of this approach is that wise investments are made for the long run rather than for quick returns through rapid buying and selling. Such long-term financial health and growth can only be assessed through a complete analysis of the firm.

26 MBA Program Strategic Marketing Supply Chain Management The most sought-after marketers in today s diverse, global economy are ones who understand the psychology, sociology and politics of customer behaviour as it applies to both consumer and business markets domestic and international. In the Strategic Marketing specialization, concepts, theories and hands-on experience combine to prepare you for a successful career in marketing management, new product marketing, brand management, services marketing, marketing research and modeling, as well as advertising and promotion. This specialization prepares you to think through and analyze complex problems encountered by managers in the planning and control of processes. Requirements for the Canadian Operations Research Society (CORS) Diploma in Operational Research can be fulfilled with the appropriate academic standing and selection of courses. The courses in this specialization can also assist you in preparing for certification examinations conducted by the American Production Inventory Control Society (APICS).

32 MBA Program Starting Salaries (Co-op) 30 Each year the Centre for Business Career Development, which works closely with students during their co-op and graduate job search, conducts a survey to identify employment and salary information for graduating MBA students. In 2010 this survey revealed that, despite the economic downturn, the majority of McMaster s MBA Co-op graduates were able to secure well paid employment in a variety of industries and business functions. Based on the results of the survey the number of co-op students securing work within the first three months of graduating in 2010 was 90%. As an indicator of the value brought to employers by McMaster s MBA graduates, starting salaries and average signing bonus payments remained comparable to previous years, as did the breadth of industry sectors and functions McMaster Co-op graduates entered Starting Salaries 2010 Signing Bonuses $66,741 average $6,000 average $90,000 high $10,000 high Average starting salaries in 2010 were $66,741, with the highest reported in the Financial Services sector where students launched their careers with salaries of up to $90,000 per year. As in previous years, the average signing bonus was approximately $9,000, with a number of students receiving over $10,000 upon signing employment contracts. The most popular industries amongst 2010 graduates securing employment were banking (26%) and healthcare/pharmaceutical (26%). The functional roles students entered included finance (25%), sales and marketing (20%) and accounting (20%), with the remaining 37% across consulting, project management and general management roles.

33 Co-op Full-time Accelerated Part-time Starting Salaries (Full-time) Starting salaries for Full-time students are similar to those of the Co-op program averaging for the last four years at $65,000. In 2010, salaries secured by McMaster s graduating Full-time MBA students ranged between $45,000 and $90,000, with the highest salaries going to those individuals entering the operations/supply chain sector. 31 Surveys conducted by the Centre for Business Career Development indicate for the last four years that Banking and Capital Markets have been the most popular sectors amongst graduating Full-time MBA students with approximately 45% choosing this field. Consulting, Information Technology / Telecommunications and Manufacturing are also popular sectors. The numbers of students in the Full-time program who have secured employment within six months of graduation are similar to those in the Co-op program. Between 70%-80% of graduating students secured employment based on survey results from the past four years.

37 Co-op Full-time Accelerated Part-time 35 Clubs and Associations Computing An active MBA Association works with the student body and the School s administration to promote continuous improvement of the MBA program and to foster a friendly, supportive environment for our students. You can enhance your leadership skills by participating on the executive of the Association. The Association offers seminars and other events with industry groups to promote networking and knowledge of the business community. There are also a number of other student organizations in which you can become involved, including the McMaster Finance Association, Entrepreneurship Club, Women in Management and the Accounting Association, among others. A limited number of free loaner netbooks are available for student use. Gould Trading Floor 37 The Horizon Exchange Traded Funds Investment Decision Centre (IDC) at the Ron Joyce Centre, builds on the success of the Allen H. Gould Trading Floor at McMaster's main campus. The Investment Decision Centre provides students hands-on exposure to state-of-the-art portfolio management decision-making tools with technology that mirrors that in a portfolio manager's environment. Supported by information feeds from Morningstar's Canadian Portfolio Management System (CPMS) and by Canada Newswire (CNW), students can use Investment Technology Group's (ITG) Triton technology providing direct, broker-neutral access to global markets and intuitive tools that help traders improve decision making, automated execution strategies, effective order management, and performance analysis. Candidates applying to the full-time or co-op options are reviewed automatically at the time of application. Those successful applicants who qualify for a scholarship are notified in their offer of admission. Additionally, a number of McMaster University Graduate Entrance Scholarships are available through the generosity of philanthropic donors. DeGroote's Top Scholarship The Adam Felesky MBA Scholarships Established in 2010 through the generosity of Adam Felesky, B.A. '99, B.Eng. '99, this scholarship will be awarded to an incoming Full-time or Co-op MBA student who demonstrates both outstanding academic achievement and significant extra-curricular and/or professional acommplishments. Preference will be given to a student who has a background in finance or portfolio management.
