Students are strongly encouraged to pursue external and University scholarships to obtain support for their doctoral education. PhD students should note that there are a number of sources for funding for dissertation research. When opportunities are publicized, notice usually is made through the PhD listserv. Graduate Student Assistants and Tuition Remission As typically in most universities, graduate assistantships provide partial remission of the instructional fee portion of the tuition (tuition remission) and a stipend as compensation for the service provided each term. There are three types of assistantships: teaching, research, and administrative. You must be a full-time student in good academic standing to begin and maintain an assistantship.
