5 MEET your ONLINE STUDENT AMBASSADOR BENJAMIN BUDDLE Major: Illustration Hometown: Denver, CO Hello! My name is Benjamin and I m an Illustration major with a focus on Sequential Art. This will be my second degree, the first was in Game Art at another school, and my RMCAD journey has been a blast so far! My father was a mechanic in the Air Force, which allowed us to travel. We spent a lot of time in Europe and I think my favorite place to visit was Switzerland, though everywhere I ve been has had its own unique charm. Currently, I do marketing and IT work for an outdoor living company in Golden, CO, and I m working to pursue a career as an illustrator. As a student ambassador, I look forward to being able to help you and answer what questions I can. Feel free to send an or a chat request to onlinestudentambassadors@rmcad.edu. So request away! 4 Meet Your Student Ambassador
6 ONLINE TIPS + TRICKS MAKE A PRIORITY OF YOUR ONLINE CLASSES Afraid of falling behind in your online classes? Soothe your worries by being proactive in planning ahead for your Online Classes! Check the Course Schedule at the beginning of the course for the due-dates and weights of projects and activities; doing this will help you know where and when to expend your energy. Check each week s Overview for a list of the week s tasks, learning objectives, and weights. Use this information to decide on a time management strategy that will help you to complete the week s tasks. Finally, log onto the Learning Management System (LMS) every day to ensure that you don t miss important messages from your instructor and that you don t forget about any assignments. Need more resources? Check out Studying Tip Sheet under Tip Sheets on the SLC Dome Page! TIME MANAGEMENT IN ONLINE CLASSES The rhythms and structures of Online Classes are not dependent on regularly scheduled class times, so it s up to you to create your own regular class times in your schedule. Typically, Online Classes adhere to the following schedule: MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY SATURDAY SUNDAY by noon Read the overview and make sure you understand assignment instructions. Do class readings (including assigned texts and presentations) and research the week s discussion post questions. Post your initial discussion post and begin to work on the week s project or assignment. Continue to work on the week s project or assignment. Reply to two classmates discussion posts and continue to work on the week s project or assignment. Continue to work on the week s project or assignment. Review and submit the week s project or assignment don t cut it close in case you run into unexpected trouble! READING + NOTE TAKING FOR ONLINE CLASSES Read the LMS out loud and remember to preview the presentation to get an idea of what s coming. If the presentation contains hyperlinks, ask yourself: Do I understand what preceded the link? How might this relate to what I ve already read? If you can answer these questions without hesitation, click the hyperlink! QUICK TIP:PRIORITIZE! READ ALL OF THE PRESENTATION Copy class presentations into a Word document so that you can strikethrough or delete already-read material as AND THEN CLICK THROUGH THE HYPERLINKS! Copy class presentations into a Word document so that you can strikethrough or delete already-read material as you go. Copying class materials into a Word document also allows you to take notes directly from Presentation Materials. Use automatic bulleting, outlining, and color-coding to organize the material into a note-taking form that works for you. Cornell Notes are adaptable to word documents through the use of tables.
