2 What is Behavioral Health? Behavioral Health is being defined as an array of coordinated and integrated alcohol, drug, mental health, and co-occurring services for children, youth, families, adults, and older adults by improving their quality of life within their communities. The Behavioral Health (BHS) mission will be to provide accessible, culturally competent, age appropriate, holistic, accountable, cost effective, outcome-driven, and client and family focused services to the residents of San Diego County. 2
3 Behavioral Health Emergency Call 911 or take the person to the nearest hospital emergency room when a person is a danger to himself/herself or others or cannot get food, shelter, or clothing. The police will respond to the call and may be accompanied by a Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT), if available, to provide assistance. A person or family member also can call their doctor or therapist or: Call the Access and Crisis Line at (800) Clinicians answer the phones 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide immediate crisis interventions and provide linkages/referrals to appropriate services as needed. 5 All programs listed in this directory (except DUI and PC1000 programs) receive funding through contracts with the County of San Diego. include alcohol and drug and/or mental health services, including prevention, treatment, and recovery programs. are for Medi-Cal and individuals without insurance. Programs may charge program fees based on the individuals income and ability to pay. No one can be denied services based on an inability to pay. Except as restricted by state licensing regulations, services are provided without discrimination on the basis of age, sex, race, disability, or ability to pay. Client fees are waived for Medi-Cal eligible persons participating in Medi-Cal certified services (except for required share of cost). Tips for assisting individuals to access services: You can call or have the individual call the Behavioral Health Access and Crisis Line (BH ACL) at (800) The BH ACL operates 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Trained clinicians on the BH ACL will assess client s needs, and work with him/her to decide on how best to meet their needs, within the range of services the client is eligible for. The BH ACL will make every effort to connect the individual with services that are geographically accessible and that meet the specific language and cultural needs of the individual. In addition to the programs listed in this directory the BH ACL can also make referrals to 800 individual providers. 5
