1 Pyramid Healthcare, Inc. ANNUAL REPORT A Word from the CEO... Over the last fiscal year, we ve been able to identify one constant: CHANGE. Pyramid Healthcare and its affiliated companies adapted and evolved as customers, clients, public policy, treatment methods, technology, and seemingly everything else that affects our business continued to change. We are now one of the largest, if not the largest, behavioral health providers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and continue to plan the development of significant operations in these states in addition to North Carolina. Much of our challenge this year has been integrating the systems of our affiliated companies and, in doing so, learning from each other how to best provide care and manage delivery systems. Thanks to a growing acceptance of mental health and chemical dependency treatment, and an increasing emphasis on parity of payment for behavioral healthcare, we have begun to see more people access treatment a very good thing, indeed. We now face the (positive) obstacle of creating new capacity to keep up with growing demand for the services provided through our continuum of care. Changes in technology have also enabled clients and referral sources to access treatment in new and more efficient ways. This year, we have updated the Pyramid Healthcare website, and the websites of our affiliates, to take advantage of new features which will enhance the online users experience with us, and improve their ability to educate themselves, evaluate our services, and contact us when they make that important decision to pursue treatment. Pyramid Healthcare looks forward to continuing to successfully adapt and thrive in today s ever-changing world. 2 DAYS 2, 18, 16, 14, 12, 1, 8, 6, 4, 2, PATIENT DAYS YEAR REVENUES AND EXPENSES $ Millions Expenses Revenues New Outpatient Program Opens in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania Research conducted by Franklin County indicated that the Waynesboro community was underserved and had inadequate access to drug and alcohol treatment. The local school district reported a steady increase of adolescent substance abuse, and both adults and teens faced transportation barriers that made it difficult for them to get the help that they needed. Overall, the research demonstrated that Waynesboro was suffering from a significant shortage of psychiatric and mental health treatment services for its residents. Based on the data, a county committee decided that a dually-licensed outpatient clinic was needed in the area, and offered three providers the opportunity to submit a proposal outlining their ideas for the comprehensive facility. Pyramid Healthcare, who had established a positive reputation in the community through its Chambersburg Outpatient facility, was selected. In September 214, Pyramid Healthcare officially opened its Waynesboro Outpatient facility and began providing substance abuse treatment. In June 215, the facility expanded its services by hiring a new psychiatrist and began offering mental health treatment to those in the Waynesboro area. 2

3 Eastern Pennsylvania Expansion Enhanced Treatment Services in Monroe County, Pennsylvania Aug 13 Sept Pyramid Healthcare began offering inpatient services in northeastern Pennsylvania in August 213 with the opening of Hillside Detox and Inpatient Treatment Center in Stroudsburg. Since then, Hillside has expanded from a 6-bed capacity to an 88-bed capacity, a clear indicator of the program s quality and service over the past two years. Located approximately 2 minutes from Hillside, the outpatient clinic in Bartonsville will provide services for clients throughout Monroe County. This new facility will offer behavioral health assessments, outpatient group therapy, individual therapy, and psychiatric services. The new program marks an exciting collaboration between Pyramid Healthcare, Carbon/Monroe/ Pike Drug and Alcohol Commission, Carbon/Monroe/Pike Mental Health and Developmental Services, and Community Care Behavioral Health. These four agencies worked together in order to bring a much needed new service to the Pocono region. Onward Behavioral Health Continues to Grow Pyramid Healthcare acquired Onward Behavioral Health in May 214. Four distinct service lines comprise Onward Behavioral Health: Rehab After Work, Life Counseling Services, The Light Program and Seeds of Hope. At the time of its acquisition, Onward Behavioral Health had 25 locations across Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey. Over the course of the year, Pyramid Healthcare and Onward expanded services at 12 of these locations. These new services included an Anger Management group, a Gambling group, weekend IOP services, new The Light Program IOPs, and a new Seeds of Hope Partial Hospitalization program for those suffering from eating disorders. In addition, Pyramid Healthcare and Onward reorganized the management team to designate regional operations directors. The regional directors, site directors, and clinicians at each location have done an excellent job of expanding services and enhancing treatment teams. Pyramid Healthcare and Onward look forward to additional growth over the next year, including exciting new programs, such as Outpatient Detoxification services, and new locations in the Lehigh Valley. 3

5 Pennsylvania and New Jersey Expansion Soaring Heights School Opens in State College, Pennsylvania On April 27, 215, the fourth Pyramid Healthcare autism school opened in State College, Pennsylvania. The school grew from two students to five by the end of summer extended school year programming, and started the school with seven students. The program boasts two Master s level instructors and Pennsylvania Certified Special Education teachers, as well as three teacher s aids. The program relies on the strength of the TEACCH Instruction method, along with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Analysis. All classrooms utilize interactive instruction through individual and small group settings. Lessons focus on increasing academic performance according to the Common Core standards, as well as improving socialization and communication skills, and teaching appropriate behaviors. Our teachers promote a visual and highlystructured environment using a datadriven approach and ABA. Picture Exchange Communication (PECT) is incorporated daily to assist with communication needs. Technology shapes the classroom environment and enhances the educational experience through the use of ipads, computers, smart boards, GPS devices, and Kindle Fires. Students also participate in interactive community programming, including visiting museums and participating in activities on the Penn State University Campus, as well as using other community resources and attending community events. Adult Transitional Program to Open in New Jersey In an effort to meet the growing need for more intensive services for young adults, High Focus Centers proudly announces the launch of Waypointe, an exclusive five bed treatment and transitional program designed for young men ages who have struggled with mental illness or co-occurring disorders and experienced challenges with becoming self-sufficient and finding their purpose. The Waypointe model leverages the expertise of the adult psychiatric clinical program located at the High Focus Centers Branchburg site, while also offering a comprehensive set of transitional services both in the residence and through partnerships in the community. Strategically and conveniently located at the midway point between New York City and Philadelphia in an upscale suburban setting, Waypointe provides highlyindividualized care and attention and exceptional clinical treatment as well as opportunities for social engagement, educational development, and vocational training in a comfortable residential environment. The program helps young men find their way, explore their talents, and successfully launch themselves into a more meaningful and productive future. Waypointe offers rich clinical programming, a multi-dimensional approach to transition, and concierge-type services to clients and families at a self-pay rate, with the average length of stay anticipated to be approximately six months.
