4 Philosophy Excellence in nursing is a dynamic process that is based on both the art and science of nursing in the context of caring. Nursing care at MIHS is based upon the belief that the best care is accomplished through positive interpersonal relationships, especially the nurse-patient relationship. Autonomy in decision-making, both at the point of service (patient and family) as well as in the global environment is central. Shared governance models are used to assure staff input into clinical practice and professional activities. The Clinical Ladder Program exists to support professional nursing practice through ongoing growth and development. 3
