CBS Steve Billnitzer (BA 1979) works at CBS as a ratings analyst. He measures, analyzes, interprets and tracks network ratings data for CBS primetime sitcoms and dramas. CBS Broadcasting is one of the four major U.S. television networks, and as a large media conglomerate, it hires hundreds of people with degrees in the computer and actuarial sciences. Elizabeth Rizzo, Ratings Specialist, is also joining him. UM Civil and Enviromental Engineering Angela Jeon is here to discuss graduate programs in Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE). CEE strives to be the leading educational and research institution addressing transformative advances in the understanding, design, and longterm protection of interconnected civil and environmental infrastructure systems and the natural environment. Math is a fundamental part of CEE degree programs. UM Digital Library Preservation Service Matt LaChance (BS 2011) works as a data processing and workflow automation programmer with the UM Digital Library Preservation Service, a division of the University of Michigan Library. DLPS contributes in a variety of ways to the highlycollaborative effort of building digital libraries. engagespark Lisa Kalenkiewicz (BS 2010) is representing engagespark, a tech-enabled social enterprise. Michigan Medical School, M-Prep Michael Simonov (BS 2007) is a medical school student and Co-Founder of M-Prep. 4 Michigan Tech Research Institute Matthew Masarik (PhD 2012) is a research scientist with the Michigan Technological Research Institute. Michigan Technological University is a recognized leader in the research, development and practical application of sensor and information technology. There, they solve critical problems in national security, protecting and evaluating critical infrastructure, bioinformatics, earth sciences, and environmental processes. Useful mathematical skills in this field include image processing, statistics, digital signal processing, numerical analysis, linear algebra, and probability. Possible summer internships are available. Milliman Wen Ning (BS 2013) is an actuarial assistant with Milliman s Milwaukee-Chicago offices. They are looking for students with a main focus in actuarial mathematics for possible full-time and internship opportunities. UM Program in Survey Methodology Department Patricia Gregory is representing the Program in Survey Methodology at The University of Michigan. PSM brings together faculty and scientists from the social and behavioral sciences in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts; the School of Public Health; and the Institute for Social Research. PSM is a program where students learn the science of surveys. Students in the program study with some of the world's leading survey methodologists while pursuing their Master's or PhD degree. Moreover, the quantitative strengths of disciplines such as communication studies, economics, education, political science, psychology, sociology, and statistics are integral to the empirical underpinnings of the program. Quicken Loans Alisha Roberts is representing Quicken Loans. University of Michigan Health System Benjamin Singer (BS 2002) is a fellow in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine with the University of Michigan Health System. UMHS and the University of Michigan Medical School encompass a wide range of clinical and research activities. While some areas draw more directly on a mathematics background than others, Dr. Singer is here to discuss how a mathematics degree can be excellent preparation for the rigors of medical school. The William Davidson Institute Beatrix Balogh (BS 2013) is here representing The William Davidson Institute (WDI), a non-profit research and educational institute established at the University of Michigan in The various initiatives within WDI apply mathematics in various ways. The Healthcare Research Initiative at WDI incorporates mathematical modeling of epidemiological diseases, systems dynamics modeling of markets/forecasts, and data/statistical analysis of the global market for various disease medicines.
