5 UNIVERSITY CORE As a liberal arts institution, UIW has made a deliberate and concerted effort to support the concept of "liberal" learning through the creation of the Core Curriculum. Without apology, we require all of our graduates to complete a Core rich in the liberal arts tradition, grounded in the Catholic tradition, and appreciative of others and other cultures. We also recognize that many of our students transfer to UIW having completed all or most of our Core and as such, we accept those credits, where applicable, to ensure graduation in a timely manner. All students must complete the following Core Curriculum requirements. Composition & Rhetoric (6 Hours) ENGL 1311 Composition I ENGL 1312 Composition II Science (4 Hours) BIOL 1401 Diversity of Life and Lab BIOL 2321/2121 Anatomy and Physiology and Lab CHEM 2301/1101 Principles of Chemistry I and Lab ENSC 1410 Introduction to Environmental Science GEOL 1401 Physical Geology with Lab GEOL 1402 Historical Geology with Lab GEOL 1416 Astronomy I GEOL 1417 Astronomy II GEOL 2410 Earth Science with Lab GEOL 3420 Oceanography with Lab GEOL 3430 Meteorology with Lab GEOL 3450 Environmental Geology with Lab PHYS 1301/1101 General Physics I and Lab PHYS 2305/2105 Physics I and Lab Mathematics (3 Hours) MATH 1304 College Algebra MATH 1306 College Geometry MATH 1308 Finite Math MATH 2303 Introduction to Probability & Statistics History (3 Hours) 3 Hours History HIST 1311 World History I HIST 1312 World History II HIST 1321 The United States to 1865 HIST 1322 The United States Since 1865 Religion (3 Hours) RELS 1305 Intro to Theology and Ethics RELS 1315 Origins of Christianity RELS 1325 The Religious Quest RELS 2350 Spirituality and Prayer Philosophy (3 Hours) PHIL 1381 Introduction to Philosophy Upper Division Religion or Philosophy (3 hrs) PHIL 3375 Aesthetics: Art & Beauty (only option) Literature and Art (6 hours) ENGL 2310 World Literature ARTS 1301 Drawing I Foreign Language (6 Hours) Six semester hours in one language other than English.
