2 Information Security Student Advising Workbook Name: The purpose of this workbook is to help you determine which courses you can enroll in each semester. The Information (INSE) program currently offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Information Security. Associate of Applied Science Degree Requirements Students completing the Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Information Technology are required to complete 19 credit hours of general education courses. Two of the courses are predetermined that you must complete while the remaining courses you may select on your own. The two general education courses that you are required to complete are: COMM 101 Introduction to Public Speaking ENGL 111 English Composition You are free to select the courses from the following areas: ECON XXX Any Economics course SCIN XXX Any Life/Physical Science course XXXX XXX Any Humanities/Social & Behavior Science course IVYT 1XX Any Ivy Tech Life Skills course numbered IVYT 100 or higher. (note: IVYT 070 does not count for credit toward graduation.) and, you must select one of the following MATH courses: MATH 135 Finite Math MATH 136 College Algebra MATH 137 Trigonometry with Analytical Geometry The Professional/Technical courses required for graduation are: CINS 113 Logic, Design, and Programming CINS 139 Introduction to Computer Forensics CINT 106 Microcomputer Operating System CINT 108 Linux Fundamentals CINT 121 Network Fundamentals CINT 225 Windows Network Operating System CINT 251 Introduction to Systems Security INSE 101 Introduction Information Systems Security INSE 250 Ethical Hacking and Database Management INSE 279 Capstone Course And you must select one of the following programming courses: CINS 121 CINS 129 CINS 133 C/C++ Programming C# Programming Introduction to Python Programming
3 You also are required to complete a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours in approved state-wide elective courses. The list of state-wide courses cam be found on the last page. When planning your two years of study at Ivy Tech Community College, a suggested course completion sequence has been developed to help you to proceed smoothly as possible through your education. This sequence has been developed so that you will meet the course prerequisites in a timely manner. Your two years of academic study is based upon four semesters of full time study of approximately 15 to 17 credit hours per semester. The four semesters are: Freshman Fall, Freshman Spring, Sophomore Fall, and Sophomore Spring. Although 12 credit hours per semester is considered full time, you will not be able to complete your degree in four semesters unless you register for and successfully complete approximately 15 to 16 credits per semester. Those students who desire to pursue a program of approximately 12 to 13 credit hours are recommended to complete two General Education courses during each of the summer semester. It is not advised for students to attempt completing two degrees simultaneously. For example, completing a degree in Information Security (INSE) and Computer Information Technology (CINT) or Computer Information Systems (CINS). Students are recommended to complete one degree and graduate, then complete the second degree. Before choosing courses from the state-wide elective course list, it is recommended that you meet with your adviser so that the electives you choose will fit into your career goals.. All students are required to complete the course numbers as listed in the advising handbook. For example, Interpersonal Communications (COMM 102) does not substitute for Fundamentals of Public Speaking (COMM 101).
