2 2 LA UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE ENTRE RÍOS (NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF ENTRE RIOS) The Universidad Nacional de Entre Ríos, UNER, is 33 years old being created in 1973 by Decree Law within a framework of decentralization and regionalization of the national university system. In 1983, after the last military dictatorship the UNER becomes an open and pluralist institution through an academic excellence oriented policy. Back then, the university offered eight bachelor s degrees and had about 2000 students. Since its creation, the UNER has strengthened its academic offer, making it possible for over students to attend its many academic units. The faculty is involved in research activities as well as in articulation and transference programs and projects at provincial level. The University s Rectorate is in Concepción del Uruguay and it has nine academic units in the cities of Paraná, Concepción del Uruguay, Oro Verde, Gualeguaychú, Concordia y Villaguay. The UNER is organized under the system of schools or faculties: They are Facultad de Ciencias de la Administración (Faculty of Administration Sciences), Facultad de Ciencias Agropecuarias (Faculty of Agricultural Sciences), Facultad de Ciencias de la Alimentación (Faculty of Food Sciences), Facultad de Bromatología (Faculty of Bromatology), Facultad de Ciencias Económicas (Faculty of Economical Sciences), Facultad de Ciencias de la Educación (Faculty of Educational Sciences), Facultad de Ingeniería (Faculty of Engineering), Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud (Faculty of Health Sciences) and Facultad de Trabajo Social (Faculty of Social Work). Its current Dean is Eng. Jorge Amado Gerard. THE FACULTY OF SOCIAL WORK History Our faculty starts as Entre Ríos Social Service School in 1960 within a context of State promoted social policies development, which requested the training of professionals in the social field.

3 3 It becomes Faculty of Social Service in 1986, the first academic unit at this university level in the country. In 1994, it is renamed as Faculty of Social Work as the result of a change in its professional conception. Since then, our faculty has institutionally consolidated its position and placed itself ahead of disciplinary debate both nationwide and in Latin America. As regards postgraduate studies, the Master in Mental Health program was created in 1992, the first master s program at Universidad Nacional de Entre Ríos, followed 8 years later by the Master in Social Work program. In order to strengthen the university postgraduate academic policy, the PhD in Social Sciences is initiated in 2007 this degree is run together with Faculty of Educational Sciences and Faculty of Economical Sciences. All three programs impact greatly upon the training of professional graduates in the area and country. After a long tradition of excellence in the Bachellor s Degree in Social Work and accounting for an institutional policy of continuous growth, the Bachellor s degree in Political Science is created in Nowadays, a strong emphasis is placed on Extension and Research project development realized in many programs committed to the provincial and national reality. We work strongly convinced that it is the University s task to train critical thinking professionals capable of recognizing deep historic inequities. Consequently, our graduates are potential strategic actors to promote proposals for social change. Forty years after our faculty creation and with more than a thousand graduate students from our bachellor s degrees and over fifty Master s graduates, we continue to have a public university conception oriented by our sense of social function, capable of knowing and understanding reality and thinking practices based on inclusion, freedom and justice values. 4 4 Student Representation The Student Center is an autonomous student political organization whose aim is to represent, defend, and promote the students rights and interests, as well as providing the necessary services for that purpose. Its main government body is the student s assembly. Representatives from different organizations are elected by their pairs' vote. Fragment of General Academic Regulations The academic life is ruled by our General Academic Regulations (Res. Nº 166/08 C.D. ) establishing, among others, the following general procedures: Admission Article 1. It will be ruled by procedures and conditions officially established by the University for each academic year. Academic year Article 2. The academic year will involve two periods determined annually by the Academic Calendar and will be approved by the University Directive Board. Every period will include the number of minimal weeks established by the University and/or the Study Plan. Student categories Article 3. Students are classified into three (3) categories: regular, non-regular and auditing students.

5 5 Article 4. Regular Student is the one who attends all subjects and fulfills all requirements established by this Regulations. Article 5. Non-regular Student is the one who does not conform to Article 4. Article 6. Auditing Student is the one that not being admitted as regular student at the Faculty, is taking a/some of the degree course/s under the conditions stated below. Article 7. Any person having passed secondary school or those who can prove any activity related to the course of interest will be enrolled in courses and seminars dictated at the Faculty, under the category of Auditing Student. Article 13. Enrolment to the academic year and to different yearly courses will be at the beginning of such academic year at Students Department. In the case of four month courses, enrolment will be done 15 days before starting that term. Exam sessions Article 50. Exam sessions are scheduled according to the annual calendar established by the National University of Entre Rios. Article 51. Examination periods corresponding to the University established sessions will be scheduled annually for each academic year by the Directive Board in the Academic Calendar. Article 52. Examination Schedule will be established and published by the Academic Secretary including the examining board constituents, date and time. Article 53. For the last two courses, the student has the right to request for a special constituency of Examining Boards any time along the year, being the only condition that fifteen (15) days have elapsed since the previous exam session or since the last examining board asked. Examination enrolment Article 54. The student must enroll at the Students Department via siu-guarani system, and should verify it before the last two (2) working days 48 hours the examination day. Non-attendance shall be communicated twenty four (24) hours before the examination day. The Student Department is allowed to nullify those enrolments not fulfilling the conditions established in this Regulations. Article 55. Students can take an exam of the same course in two (2) dates at the exam session including three (3) dates and in both two (2) dates in those including two (2) examination dates. Article 56. After the exam enrolment closure date, Students Department will publish the list of students enrolled for taking an exam for every course. Students enrolled to take an exam will be included alphabetically in the

6 6 corresponding course records that will be given to the Examining Board the examination day. Article 57. In case of a force majeur exam cancellation, provided it is produced 24 hours before the event, Students Department will communicate it to the students enrolled. Article 58. In those cases when a student do not take an exam by force majeur (due to the student illness or a direct relative death or sickness, or others) and that examination date is the course expiration date for his/her regular condition, the situation will be evaluated by Academic Secretary to shedule a special examination date in the corresponding examination session. Article 59. The student absent at the time of being called to take an exam will be called again after the last one in the list. If the student does not appear, he/she will be considered absent in the records. Grading scale Article 84. The grading scale established by the University for partial or final examinations will be the following: Unsatisfactory 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Satisfactory 6 Good 7 Very Good 8 Outstanding 9 Excellent 10 For more information about the academic year, examination sessions and class schedule click here. Benefits for Students A Canteen The university provides not only intellectual and professional training but also offers the opportunity to have a daily low-cost lunch at the University canteen opened since September This service is available from Mondays to Fridays at Andres Pazos 149. The uner canteen is opened to university students, teachers, staff in general and persons not related with the university.

13 13 Requirements to enter and remain in Argentina In order to stay and study in Argentina, whether it is a short course or internship, it is important to bear in mind the differences in academic calendar, which may be a problem when taking annual courses in the country of origin. Moreover, it is essential to comply with the requisites stablished by the Migrations and Education authorities: When deciding to apply for a student exchange program, enroll at a college for a degree or post graduate studies, you should contact the nearest consulate of Argentina and find out about all the necessary requirements, documentation and visa processing. If you wish to enroll for a bachelor s degree or postgraduate study which grants a diploma, ask the authorities in the country of origin. If you only want to take some courses instead, you should ask about the current agreements between both universities. People entering Argentina as temporary visitors, regardless of their country of origin, are able to attend Argentinean Universities as long as they remain for the period granted by the Argentine immigration officer at the time of entry (typically days). 14 14 Requirements for students Exchange and Academic Mobility Programs Applicants interested in applying for exchange and academic mobility programs in Argentina should be informed about the specific requirements for each student exchange program, but here is a summary of the generally required documentation: Acceptance letter from the target School or College, signed by its authority. A valid passport with at least six months validity remaining. Related checks of criminal history background (duly translated and legalized). Insurance coverage for the whole trip and stay plus health insurance. Filled and signed Scholarship application form. Signed call regulations (if necessary). Complete Curriculum Vitae (if necessary).
