6 The Canadore Story Canadore College is ideally situated in North Bay, Ontario equal distance from Toronto and Ottawa. The College is close enough to get here quickly but far enough to provide some independence. Canadore is the college of choice for students from across the province and around the world. Canadore has over 60 full-time quality programs and outstanding faculty and student services. The college graduates approximately 1,000 students each year and has over 40,000 alumni. Programs for those Missing Credits We have fast-track options available so you can obtain your math and English requirements, and mature student testing and upgrading are available on an ongoing basis. Seamless Registration We offer a team approach to registration and seamless service delivery from program application to financial assistance to support services. Canadore College has an extensive financial assistance program offered to both full-time and part-time students, with approximately $1.7 million in scholarships and bursaries being awarded annually. Canadore is one of the only colleges in Ontario that shares its campus with a university. 8 Around the City In the City of North Bay, population 54,000, you can enjoy good restaurants, movies, downtown amenities and mall shopping, live theatre, community festivals and events, and a vibrant nightlife. Whether you feel like a night out dancing, listening to live music, or just sitting in a pub playing pool and relaxing, the City has what you are looking for. On campus, the student-run pub and restaurant is a great place to relax after a long school day or to catch some prime entertainment. The community has many great venues. Getting Around The City of North Bay provides regularly-scheduled bus service to our three local campuses, and all full-time students receive a bus pass for travel from September through April, the cost of which is included in your tuition. Outdoor Activity Our countless lakes, rivers, forests, canoe routes and trail systems provide endless outdoor activity including: camping, swimming, hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, and a variety of other sports. The City is nestled between two beautiful lakes, Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake, presenting limitless water recreation opportunities. We also have a number of golf courses, parks, baseball diamonds and soccer fields throughout the City. And, for the avid jogger, cyclist or in-line skater, the Kate Pace Way and the Kinsmen Trail combine to offer 28 km of multi-use paved trails stretching from one end of the City to the other. 6
9 Residence Apartment Complex One Apartment Complex Two A Room of Your Own Residence is a great way to meet new people and make lifelong friends. Canadore has three residences that accommodate 700 students a townhouse-style residence located directly beside the College Drive Campus and two apartment-style residences at the bottom of College Drive. All residences provide single rooms allowing you to have your very own space. Each residence complex provides the following services: cable television, telephone, mail service, Internet access, and access to transportation and laundry facilities. All first-year students are guaranteed a spot in residence! 10 Health Centre The Campus Health Centre provides students with convenient access to a wide array of medical services including: medical assessment and treatment, health education and promotion, immunization clinics and a walk-in clinic. We offer a full-time doctor and nurses on campus! Athletics, Recreation and Wellness We can help make sport, fitness, wellness and fun fit into your schedule. Diverse quality recreation programs, varsity and club teams, and wellness programs are available at our Aviation, College Drive and Commerce Court campuses. We are also proud members of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), the provincial organization for college varsity sports. Your annual athletic fee means that many of the programs offered are at no extra cost. Participating in sports and recreation events will allow you to expand your circle of friends, keep active and try some new and exciting experiences. Varsity Level Sports: Men s and women s volleyball and men s varsity basketball. Club Level Sports: Basketball, ice hockey, and men s and women s indoor soccer. Recreational Sports and Leagues: Floor hockey, badminton, lacrosse, volleyball and basketball, and ice hockey. Students come to Canadore from as far away as China, India, Malaysia, El Salvador and Africa. We strive to make the transition for our international students an easy one by providing orientation and transportation upon arrival, and assisting with finding accommodation. Canadore offers students from around the world the unique opportunity to experience a culture that is truly Canadian. First Peoples Centre Many services are available for our First Nation, Métis and Inuit students including counselling, advocacy, elders programs and peer tutoring. 12 Campus Shop All of your supply needs can be taken care of with one stop at the Campus Shop. Traditional books, textbook rentals, stationery, software, hardware, gifts, clothing and accessories are available year-round. We offer online books, textbook rentals, etexts, book borrowing and Books on Beds. Food on Campus There are several food options on campus. You can prepare meals in your residence, or choose from one of the on-campus options like the cafeteria, food court, convenience store, vending machines, and a student-operated restaurant/pub with a full roadhouse menu. Meal plans are also available. Campus Safety Our campuses are set in a safe and friendly community atmosphere. We recognize that you may require changes to your physical environment, assistive devices, learning aids and alternative program delivery in order to be successful in your studies. 14 School of Aviation Technology Canadore is a leader in aviation training. Our Aviation Campus is home to top of the line, industry-standard training tools and dedicated staff and faculty. The 87,000 sq. ft. training facility is ideally located at North Bay s Jack Garland Airport and its 10,000 foot runway (the longest north of Toronto). The hangar, the campus highlight, boasting 17,000 sq. ft. of prime training space, is filled to capacity with fixed and rotary wing aircraft for students to work hands-on. 16 Aviation Technician Avionics Maintenance Two Years Ontario College Diploma Canada s aviation industry is predicting a huge shortage of skilled aircraft maintenance personnel across the country over the next two decades. Train under skilled professionals to repair and maintain aircraft electrical and electronics systems including communication, navigation and radar systems. The program is approved by Transport Canada and CCAA (Canadian Council for Aviation and Aerospace). Note: Graduates will receive 18 months accreditation towards a Transport Canada, issued Aircraft Maintenance Engineer s Licence, Category E. Class attendance is mandatory. 17 Helicopter Flight Training One Year College Certificate The unique partnership between Canadore and Essential Helicopters provides students with the benefit of a structured college education combined with in-depth practical training. From building log helicopter pads in the bush to landing under the control of Air Traffic Control, students receive flight training in a variety of real-world situations. The intensive ground school covers all aspects of helicopter operations, and the school s fleet of well-equipped aircraft and certified instrument training simulators will help you hone your skills. Note: All ground school and flight training is provided by Transport Canada-certified flight instructors and all Transport Canada flight tests and written examinations will be administered by Transport Canada or a designee. Graduates will receive a Canadore College Professional Pilot Preparedness Certificate, a Transport Canada Commercial Helicopter Licence, and industry-recognized courses.
