8 Installation Workflow Core software The core software platform provides a reporting soltion bilt on a scalable architectre of distribted backends, frontends, collectors and databases. Installing the core software platform establishes the fondation for the site, providing common capabilities, fnctions and ser interfaces available to all site sers, regardless of the specific installed SoltionPacks. Yo can install site software as a Virtal Appliance in a VMWare environment or sing a standard binary installation: The Virtal Appliance installation enables yo to deploy the site software as an appliance in a spported VMWare environment. Alternatively, yo can perform a standard, or binary, installation of the site software on physical or virtal servers. Spported pdate paths EMC only spports the application of specific pdates in seqence > > Storage Resorce Management Site SoltionPacks The site incldes a nmber of storage infrastrctre-related SoltionPacks to spport EMC and third-party storage infrastrctre components. 10 Virtal Appliance Installation Virtal Appliance installation overview Yo can deploy the site in a spported VMWare environment. A virtal appliance (vapp) is a software soltion composed of one or more virtal soltions that is packaged by an appliance vendor and can be deployed, managed, and maintained as a nit. Storage Resorce Management Site vapps are distribted sing Open Virtalization Format (OVF) files. Depending on yor environment reqirements, two types of OVF installations are available to install the site core software: Note For VM vapp installation option One VM vapp installation option For VM vapp installation - Distribtes core software components across for VMs (Frontend, Primary Backend, Additional Backend, and Collector). The VMs in this installation are pre-configred to commnicate with each other, offering an ot-ofthe-box configration that can fnction in smaller environments. Yo can frther scale and extend the environment by installing additional VMs sing the one VM vapp installation. One VM vapp installation - Has the potential to install any of the core software components in a single VM. This can be sed to install a single, consolidated VM with all components for evalation prposes, or to add additional Backend and Collector appliances to extend or scale the environment created sing the for VM vapp installation. The vapp deployment shold be sed only for new installations. If yo need to pgrade an existing installation, se the standard binary setp script or exectable to migrate to a newer release. The vapp deployment spport was not available prior to the Storage Resorce Management Site 3.0 release. Use this procedre to install the for VM vapp. The for VM vapp installation deploys for VMs which are pre-configred to commnicate with each other: Frontend VM - This VM hosts the web portal and centralized management applications and controls licensing. Primary Backend VM - This VM hosts the primary database, back end components, load balancer/arbiter and modles which spport capacity, alerting and topology. Yo can have only one instance of the Primary Backend in yor environment. Additional Backend VM - This VM incldes back end components and timeseries databases and is sed to scale ot back end processing. Collector VM - This VM hosts collectors sed to discover, collect and process data from spported hosts, switches and storage devices. Use this option to install a vapp which incldes all core software components or to extend a for VM vapp environment to inclde additional vapps. This installation option provides a specific appliance as a single virtal machine which can then be manally added to yor base installation to extend yor environment: 10 EMC Storage Resorce Management Site Installation and Configration Gide

11 Virtal Appliance Installation Frontend VM - This appliance hosts the web portal and centralized management applications and controls licensing. Primary Backend VM - This VM hosts the primary database, back end components, load balancer/arbiter and modles which spport capacity, alerting and topology. Yo can have only one instance of the Primary Backend in yor environment. Additional Backend VM - This VM incldes back end components and timeseries databases. Collector VM - This VM hosts collectors sed to discover, collect and process data from spported hosts, switches and storage devices. This VM incldes the same modles as the Minimal Installation and adds generic Collector modles (Generic- SNMP, Generic-RSC) In addition, the one VM vapp installation provides the following specialized installation options: All-In-One Appliance - This vapp is intended for a small site or to condct proof of concept activities with the site software and installs Frontend, Backend and Collector core software components on a single virtal machine. Minimal Installation - Installs the minimal base software components reqired for the core software, enabling a cstom installation options on a single virtal machine. 31 CHAPTER 5 Infrastrctre Preparation for Discovery and Data Collection This chapter incldes the following topics: Host preparation for discovery data collection...32 Switch configration for discovery and data collection Storage system preparation for discovery and data collection Infrastrctre Preparation for Discovery and Data Collection 31

32 Infrastrctre Preparation for Discovery and Data Collection Host preparation for discovery data collection Yo need to configre hosts to spport resorce discovery and data collection. Host configration reqired for Windows and UNIX on page 32 Windows configration for discovery and data collection on page 33 UNIX and Linx host configration for discovery and data collection on page 39 Configring ESX hosts to collect PowerPath metrics on page 42 Installing host agent software on Windows hosts on page 42 Host configration reqired for Windows and UNIX Considerations for hostname and IP address In order to discover and collect data from these hosts yo have to configre varios parameters. Considerations for hostname and IP address on page 32 Considerations for SNIA libraries and HBA drivers on page 32 Yo have to follow these gidelines to ensre a sccessfl host discovery and data collection. The host names are in Domain Name Server (DNS) format with flly qalified domain name (FQDN). IP addresses are registered with the appropriate domain name servers and resolve for a reverse DNS lookp. Hostname labels can contain only the lowercase ASCII letters a throgh z, the digits 0 throgh 9, and the hyphen (-). No other symbols, pnctation characters, or white spaces are permitted. Note Considerations for SNIA libraries and HBA drivers If SRM Site enconters a host name with an nderscore, sers may be prevented from logging in. In order to discover SNIA-qalified HBA-related information for all the host platforms yo shold ensre the right versions of SNIA library, drivers and firmware are in place. Ensre yo have EMC-spported host bs adapter (HBA) drivers and firmware. EMC Storage Resorce Management Site Spport Matrix provides information for the spported SNIA compliant version of the HBA driver. The vendor-specific SNIA libraries mst be installed on the target host. The HBA model nmber and part nmber shold be verified before pdating the hosts with SNIA libraries for HBA. Yo can install the SNIA library as part of HBA driver installation package or install the latest version of HBAnywhere (for Emlex installations) or SAN Srfer (for Qlogic installation). To discover an HP-UX host with a mlti-port Fibre Channel card, the package CommonIO bndle 0812(Dec 2008) or later shold be present on the host to obtain the pdated FC-SNIA file set. 32 EMC Storage Resorce Management Site Installation and Configration Gide

33 Infrastrctre Preparation for Discovery and Data Collection Prereqisites for Windows 2003 Hosts Specific third-party software is reqired to permit discovery.
