To be recognized as a member of the parish, one must be registered on the parish census. We cannot issue certificates of eligibility if a person is not properly registered in the Parish. New members in the Parish should see the Pastor after any of the Sunday Masses. Sacrament of the Sick In case of serious illness, please contact the Pastor at the Rectory. Eucharistic Ministers make Communion calls on a regular monthly basis to the homebound. Marriage Arrangements Parishioners who are planning wedding dates must make an appointment to set a wedding date six months prior to that wedding date. Sacrament of Baptism The Sacrament of Baptism for children is celebrated on the second Sunday of the month at 12:00 PM. The Parent-Preparation Program The Baptismal-Parent-Preparation program instructs parents that they are the first teachers of their children. To help parents fulfill their obligations a baptismal preparation evening is provided each month. Pre-registration required. Parents must attend this program prior to the baptism of their child, or even before the baby is born. Godparents are welcome to attend. For more information, or to schedule in Spanish, please call St. Joseph Rectory at Godparents/Sponsors The role of baptismal sponsor is primarily a spiritual role to help the newly baptized lead a Christian life. Therefore, a sponsor must be a practicing Catholic, in good standing (married validly), at least 16 years of age, and have received the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist). A baptized person who belongs to a non Catholic Church may be admitted as a witness to Baptism together with a Catholic sponsor. The choice of Godparents/Sponsor should be made primarily on their spiritual basis. Miraculous Medal Novena Fridays at the 8:00 AM Mass
2 SAINT JOSEPH CHURCH A TITHING PARISH Our Lord Jesus Christ the King November 24, 2013 I rejoiced because they said to me, We will go up to the house of the LORD. Psalm 122:1 REDEFINING KINGSHIP This last Sunday of the Church s liturgical year is dedicated to Christ, our King. In the first reading, from the second book of Samuel, we meet Jesus ancestor David, the greatest king of Israel. This passage describes a glorious monarch who is acclaimed by all the tribes of Israel. He is called both a shepherd and a commander. The second reading, from Paul s Letter to the Colossians, also contains glorious language, describing Christ as the firstborn of all creation. Only at the end of this passage do we hear a hint of the paradox we will meet in today s Gospel: Christ the King makes peace by the blood of his cross. In Luke s Gospel, we confront the stark reality of Christ s kingship. Here is our king, hanging on a cross, jeered, taunted, berated by a common criminal. This king looks defeated and powerless. Yet he demonstrates how absolute his power is. His death is truly for the salvation of all, one person at a time, starting with the Good Thief, and continuing through the ages to us Do you have a loved one(s) serving in our country s military? St. Joseph s Parish Pastoral Council is sponsoring a Pray For Our Troops area in the church. If you would like to send a military picture of your loved one to be included, please drop off in the church sacristy, at the rectory, or mail to the rectory at 16 S Spring Garden St, Ambler. Please include your name and the name of your loved one(s). Prayer for Our Troops Lord, hold our troops In your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families For the selfless acts they perform For us in our time of need. And give us peace. I ask this in the name of Jesus, Our Lord and Savior. Amen. Your continuing care, concern, and commitment to Saint Joseph Parish are evident and greatly appreciated. May God bless you! Sunday Collection: $5, Please understand my gratefulness for your generosity and I ask God s blessing on each member of our parish. Again, I thank you for your continuing support of St. Joseph Parish. I am sure you are aware that your continuing weekly contributions are the primary support of our parish and it is only through your generosity that we are able to maintain our buildings and grounds and at the same time, and most importantly, minister to our community. St. Joseph s is a welcoming parish & in that respect before Father welcomes each of us as mass begins please welcome those around you. Welcome to St. Joseph s. THANKSGIVING MASS IS WEDNESDAY EVENING, NOVEMBER 27TH AT 7:30 PM. THERE IS NO MASS ON THANKSGIVING DAY, NOVEMBER 28TH. MISA DE ACCIÓN DE GRACIAS ES TARDE Miércoles, 27 DE NOVIEMBRE A LAS 7:30 PM.
