2 HOSPITALITY & TOURISM This is a career cluster for HELPERS, PROMOTERS and ORGANIZERS ~ people who prefer to work with to work with people, being of service, keeping things in order, and doing things for people to contribute to their welfare and enjoyment. They use their verbal ability to lead, influence, and persuade others. They are flexible and yet organized with the ability to solve problems and provide direction. COURSE SEQUENCE This program presently consists of two courses specifically in Hospitality and Tourism. They are Tourism and Railroad Tour Guide. We are in the process of expanding our program to Lodging Management which will utilize the materials developed by the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Lodging Association. TECH PREP The program has an articulated agreement with Tanana Valley Campus (UAF) allowing students to receive credit toward a certificate or associate degree in the hospitality and tourism field. Railroad Tour Guide Program Hospitality & Tourism Fairbanks North Star Borough School District 103 Career Technical Education Curriculum

3 CERTIFICATIONS Students who complete the Railroad Tourism course receive a certificate from the Railroad indicating they have successfully completed the course and are eligible to be interviewed for a summer position as a tour guide on the Railroad. Hospitality & Tourism career cluster employment possibilities Enter the workforce immediately after high school graduation in careers including tour guides, sports instruction, reservations, and a variety of hotel service positions. Have a quick start toward a two-year associate degree in the Hospitality and Tourism industry. Have the coursework to enter a four-year degree program in one of the fields related to Hospitality and Tourism.
