Depending on where the ship docks, begin with a short walk or coach transfer through the city with the German pier and on to Bergen's old district, Bryggen, where we will admire the traditional gabled wooden buildings that overlook the harbour. We will take the funicular railway to the top of Fløien Mount for a 2.5 hour hike. Enjoy magnificent views over Bergen and the region before walking back to the ship. Please note: at Floien Mount you will walk for about 2.5 hours on foot path; we suggest you to wear hiking shoes and bring water. Voksne: DKK børn: DKK BYTUR A VISIT TO BERGEN (2.5 HOURS) - BER01 Bergen was founded in the year 1070 and, until around 1830, the city was the largest town in the country and a centre for commerce and shipping. Our excursion starts with a walk through the historic Bryggen quarter with its typical gabled wooden buildings that overlook the harbour. The excursion includes a ride on the famous Fløibanen funicular which climbs Fløien Mount; enjoy a magnificent view over Bergen and the surrounding area from the top. Enjoy a scenic tour of the Bergen peninsula and of the central parts of the city. Please note: there may be long queues at the cable car station. 2 NATURSKØNNE VEJE BERGEN BY LAND AND SEA (APPROX. 3.5 HOURS) - BER08 This comprehensive tour will give you a really thorough introduction to Bergen, a lovely city that nestles between the sea and the mountains. Having reached its commercial peak in 1100 through a profitable trade of dried cod, Bergen continued to flourish as the main trade centre in Norway. Its historic past can be seen at the German pier and in Bryggen, a traditional area with fine examples of Hanseatic buildings and gabled wooden houses. The unglamorous days of the cod trade have been left behind, as today this area has been reincarnated as a fashionable hub, with trendy restaurants, tasteful souvenir shops and inviting pubs. However, one can still stroll through this historic district and gain a sense of what it was like to live here during the Middle Ages. Next up is a chance to savour the sights during a 1.5-hour coach ride through Bergen and the verdant Norwegian countryside en route to Lyse Island to board a ferry. Some time to decompress during the relaxing boat trip then follows, during which you can delight in gorgeous views of the so-called small Lysefjord (not to be confused with the namesake-fjord close to Stavanger) and the Bergen archipelago on your way back to the city. Drive past Rosenkratz Tower, built in the XIII century and rebuilt around 1560 as a combined fortress and residence. But the feature for which Tromsø is best known is its northerly location, some 350 kilometres further up from the start of the Arctic Circle and one of the best spots on earth to witness the curious phenomenon known as the Northern Lights. Your tour of the town begins with a stop at Tromsø Museum for a look at its collection of Sámi artefacts, archaeological finds, religious art exhibits and an intriguing machine that simulates the Northern Lights. 4 KULTUR OG HISTORIE TROMSO & POLARIA CENTRE ( APPROX. 3 HOURS ) - TSO02 With the vibrant Norwegian town of Tromsø mainly being known for its extreme northerly location some 350 kilometres up from the start of the Arctic Circle and one of the best places on earth to observe the fabulous natural phenomenon called the Northern Lights, it is perhaps no surprise that it is also home to a major university and the Polaria Centre, which this tour will give you an opportunity to explore. Thanks to its spectacular setting on the island of Tromsøya, the town enjoys all-round views of the amazing surrounding landscape - wild, rugged and snow-capped. An enjoyable sightseeing tour of Tromsø begins this outing, after which you will pay the fascinating Polaria Centre a visit. We leave the pier by coach and cross over the forest clad island of Troms where Tromsø was founded in 1794 on the way to the Sandnessund bridge to reach the island Kvaløya (Whale island). The island is mountainous with some very characteristic peaks more than m high. Our destination is the Wilderness Center where the couple Tove Sørensen and Tore Albrigtsen lives with their children, assistants, and over 300 Alaskan huskies. Upon arrival the dogs and puppies are excited to meet you - and you will have time to get acquainted with them. An experienced outdoor guide and huskies will take you on a trek through the rolling arctic hills. Before we start exploring the surrounding area on foot, you will be given the option to take along "your own"husky on the trek. Back at the Wilderness Centre you will be offered coffee and cake in the Lavvo (Sami Tentlike building). Your experience in nature concludes with your coach drive to the port. Please note: dogs are changing their fur in the summer and may look a little scruffy; this is not a sign of neglect, but a natural process. Dogs will be happy to see guests and may jump up in joy; guests should therefore be prepared that they might get dirty, especially if it has been raining. It is also possible to view the dogs from a distance for those who prefer so. It's advisable to dress according to the weather and preferably in layers. 5 POLARIA CENTRE & WILDERNESS CENTRE (APPROX. 3.5 HOURS) - TSO05 Thanks to Tromsø's location some 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, the town is popular as a starting point for many arctic expeditions and considered to be the gateway to the Arctic. This entertaining excursion combines a visit to the fascinating Polaria Centre with a trip to a husky farm and wilderness camp. First up is the Polaria Centre, where you can go for a polar walk, take a look at a range of aquariums supporting marine life typically found in polar areas and enjoy a wide-screen film about "life in the freezer. Then you'll make your way to the wonderful wilderness camp run by Tove Sorensen and Tore Albrightsen, along with their 3 children. The camp is also home to a pack of more than 300 Alaskan huskies, which the couple successfully breeds in these pristine surroundings. As you explore the wonderful landscape between the Lars and Longyear Glaciers en route to the moraine - a large accumulation of glacial debris - of the Longyear Glacier, you will have time to soak up the special atmosphere of the unspoiled surroundings and enjoy lovely views from your vantage point at 150 metres above sea level. And since glacial regions such as this provide excellent conditions for fossilisation to occur, this is also the perfect spot to discover the palaeontologist slumbering within you and try your luck at finding some plant fossils - a great memento to take back to the folks at home. Leaving the jostling and squawking birds to roost, you will then continue on to the now abandoned mining town of Grumant - which existed only between 1912 and before heading for Advent City and Hiorthhamn, two more ghost towns that once served the mining industry in the early 20th century. 9 Honningsvag (Norge) lø 11 juli 2015 NATURLIGE UNDERVÆRKER PHOTO SAFARI ON MAGERØY ISLAND APPROX. 3 HOURS - HON06 Grab your camera, steady your hand and get set to flex your photographic muscle on an entertaining snapshot safari of Magerøya Island, whose name is derived from the Sami word for steep and barren coast, Máhkarávju. Home to a handful of small fishing villages in addition to the capital of Honningsvåg, Magerøya's main economic drivers are fishing and, due to its uniquely wild landscape, tourism. Your guide - that has a keen interest in photography - will remain on hand throughout to show you great photo opportunities on the tour, which begins with a drive up to a fishing village for a chance to take some snapshots of the North Cape plateau from afar. Do bring your camera - the landscape here is so incredible, a photo to prove you have been will certainly be the order of the day. You will have a chance to look around the North Cape Pavilion, a facility dedicated to describing the history of the region. Spend time at your leisure taking in the fabulous landscape and finding out about the region before heading back to the coach for your return journey to the port and your ship. 10 NOGET SÆRLIGT KING CRAB EXPERIENCE BY RIB BOAT (3 HOURS) - HON03 Lovers of fine food will not want to miss this special opportunity to discover the King Crab, a giant crab that lives in the depths of the cold Arctic sea around Russia and Norway. Considered a delicacy, some king crabs can measure up to 2 metres and weighs as much as 10 kilos. After a short walk from the pier we will reach the North Cape Adventure Centre for a safety briefing and our floatation suits. We will board a special RIB-boat for approx. 1 hour sailing trip to Sarnesfjord. Here we will see the traps taken out of the water before continuing to the tent camp where our catch will be prepared and served. Please note: the boat crew will act as guides - English spoken; this tour is feasible for children aged 4 years on. The giant crab, which can measure up to 2 m in length and weigh up to 10 kg each, is found in the depths of the cold Arctic waters around Russia and Norway. After a short walk from the pier to the coach, a 15-minute drive will take you to the beach and the Sarnes Lavvo Camp. You will then be able to watch the traps being taken out of the water and the exciting moment when the catch is revealed - and removed. Finally, the delicious crabs will be prepared and served directly in the camp tent. Your "royal culinary treat comes to a close with your return to the port and your ship. 11 Hellesylt / Geiranger (Norge) ti 14 juli 2015 AKTIV & EVENTYR KAYAK ON GEIRANGER FJORD (APPROX. 2 HOURS 45 MINUTES) - GER08 This enjoyable excursion provides bags of fun for everyone - even if you are new to kayaking. A few minutes' walk will take you to the kayak base for a short briefing and for life jackets to be issued to all participants. Once fully kitted out, you will board your kayak and begin to paddle. This is undoubtedly one of the best ways to experience the beauty and magnificence of Geiranger Fjord, with steep mountains and peaks rising all around you, including the breathtaking Preacher's Pulpit, as you slice through the water and pass majestically cascading waterfalls along the way. Your guide will provide information and tell stories of Geiranger and its inhabitants during your trip. Continuing along the shores of the beautiful Lake Olden, you will then reach Briksdal Mountain Lodge, your "base camp for the subsequent hike. A 1.5-hour walk will then give you plenty of opportunity to get up close and personal with Mother Nature as you head for the spectacular Briksdal Glacier, an arm of the Jostedal Glacier - the largest in the whole of continental Europe. The route to Mount Dalsnibba will take you up the Oplenske Valley, travelling along the beautiful mountain roads and through bucolic farmland to reach Djupvatn. You will then begin your ascent to the top of Mount Dalsnibba, which at 1,500 metres above sea level affords spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Have your camera ready to capture the amazing mountainscapes, glaciers and lakes on film and create memories for posterity. There will be time for a short stop at Djupvatn mountain lodge where you have the possibility to browse the gift shop or buy some refreshments. 12 TRANSFER FROM HELLESYLT TO GEIRANGER - FULL DAY, LUNCH INCLUDED - HEL01 Spend a day off the ship to explore and enjoy Norway's spectacular natural scenery on this coach-based tour. On leaving the port in Hellesylt, the first leg of the tour will take you to Hornindal Lake, the deepest lake in Europe at 514 metres and a place of outstanding natural beauty. Next up is the little village of Stryn, which sits pretty on the banks of Nordfjord, after which the route will take you over the Stryn mountains, passing waterfalls and lakes as you climb to an elevation of 1,500 metres above mean sea level to reach Mount Dalsnibba. This is a great spot for taking photos as it affords magnificent views over the amazing Geirangerfjord, which stretches along a length of some 15 kilometres and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After a short stop to savour the moment, you will then begin your descent back to Geiranger with more breathtaking vistas of the valley to enjoy at the famous Flydal viewpoint. A stop will be made at the Eagle Bend, which affords a spectacular view of the natural rocky outcrop known as "The Pulpit", the splendid Seven Sisters waterfall and the fjord below. An enjoyable and very scenic 1-hour coach ride will then take you to one of the many summer mountain farms in the area, where you will stop for a visit and have an opportunity to sample some typical Norwegian produce. 13 Stavanger (Norge) on 15 juli 2015 BYTUR STAVANGER CITY TOUR (APPROX. 2.5 HOURS) - STA01 Spend a few hours discovering the main sights of Stavanger, Norway's fourth-largest city on the country's south-western coast. The tour will take you past the 12th-century, Romanesque-style Stavanger Cathedral, the Market Place and through the modern part of the city. You will also visit the Iron Age Farm, a fascinating complex that illustrates how life was lived in Norway approx. 1,500 years ago. A stop will also be made in Stavanger's Ullandhaug quarter for a chance to admire the wonderful view. You will then head back into town to explore the centre of Stavanger on foot, taking in the picturesque old town - known as Gamle Stavanger - which is home to Europe's best-preserved collection of old wooden houses. Your tour ends with your return to the ship. Please note: this tour involves walking on cobbled streets and is not recommended for guests using a wheelchair. Taking photos or shooting videos inside the Iron Age Farm is prohibited. Thanks to the tunnel, a journey that once took hours can now be completed in a mere 30 minutes. A visit to the island's beautiful Utstein Abbey is next. It is regarded as Norway's best-restored monastery and is still in active use today. The monastery is dedicated to St. Laurence and dates back to the 13th century. On returning to the port by main road, a walking tour of Stavanger's picturesque old town, boasting Europe's best-preserved collection of wooden houses, brings your tour to a leisurely close. The many sights to see on this tour are certainly worth a photo, so do bring your camera. 14 NATURLIGE UNDERVÆRKER STAVANGER & NATURAL SURROUNDINGS ( 4.5 HOURS ) - STA04 Stavanger, Norway's fourth largest city, is a charming blend of antiquity and modernity. Towards the end of the 18th century Stavanger became a leading commercial and industrial town; the herring fisheries were a key commercial activity and canning factories flourished, as did shipbuilding. Today oil-related activities have grown in importance both in and around Stavanger. Our excursion begins with a drive along the Dirdal River to Byrkjedals-tunet, a former 1920s cheese factory which today houses a restaurant, a candle maker's workshop and shops selling souvenirs and traditional handicrafts. Refreshments will be served with time afterwards to browse the area. Continue by bus to the nearby Gloppedalsuren, Norway's largest field of boulders - some as big as houses. We will drive through the farming area of Jaeren and past the beaches at Sola before arriving at Stavanger for a short city sightseeing tour before returning to Stavanger pier. While many of the islands are only sparsely inhabited by humans, they are home to abundant wildlife and boast spectacular scenery. There is no better way to enjoy views of the rugged coastlines and dramatic landscapes of both Norway and these islands than from the comfort of a modern boat, cruising in the direction of Lysefjord and the incredible cliff-top vantage point known as Pulpit Rock. When you see the way it towers over the fjord, you will understand how it got its name.
