These fairy-tail environs are the destination of this entertaining tour, which begins with your coach transfer from the port. You'll then meet your guide and amble down the narrow old streets to reach the imposing brick Gothic cathedral in the middle of town, along with the beautiful buildings flanking the marketplace. A 2-hour coach drive through north Germany's bucolic countryside to Lübeck begins your tour, after which you'll meet your guide and begin your enjoyable city itinerary. The city abounds with reminders of the Hanseatic League's heyday between the 11th and 17th centuries, from the lovely old streets, buildings and courtyards, through the fabulous Holsten Gate and the seven spires of Lübeck's five churches, right up to the late 13th-century Hospital of the Holy Ghost and the 13th-/14th-century Church of St. Mary, home to the world's largest mechanical organ. Depending on where the ship docks, begin with a short walk or coach transfer through the city with the German pier and on to Bergen's old district, Bryggen, where we will admire the traditional gabled wooden buildings that overlook the harbour. We will take the funicular railway to the top of Fløien Mount for a 2.5 hour hike. Enjoy magnificent views over Bergen and the region before walking back to the ship. The excursion includes a ride on the famous Fløibanen funicular which climbs Fløien Mount; enjoy a magnificent view over Bergen and the surrounding area from the top. Having reached its commercial peak in 1100 through a profitable trade of dried cod, Bergen continued to flourish as the main trade centre in Norway. Its historic past can be seen at the German pier and in Bryggen, a traditional area with fine examples of Hanseatic buildings and gabled wooden houses. The unglamorous days of the cod trade have been left behind, as today this area has been reincarnated as a fashionable hub, with trendy restaurants, tasteful souvenir shops and inviting pubs. However, one can still stroll through this historic district and gain a sense of what it was like to live here during the Middle Ages. Do bring your camera - the landscape here is so incredible, a photo to prove you have been will certainly be the order of the day. You will have a chance to look around the North Cape Pavilion, a facility dedicated to describing the history of the region. Thanks to its spectacular setting on the island of Tromsøya, the town enjoys all-round views of the amazing surrounding landscape - wild, rugged and snow-capped. An enjoyable sightseeing tour of Tromsø begins this outing, after which you will pay the fascinating Polaria Centre a visit. We leave the pier by coach and cross over the forest clad island of Troms where Tromsø was founded in 1794 on the way to the Sandnessund bridge to reach the island Kvaløya (Whale island). The island is mountainous with some very characteristic peaks more than m high. Our destination is the Wilderness Center where the couple Tove Sørensen and Tore Albrigtsen lives with their children, assistants, and over 300 Alaskan huskies. Upon arrival the dogs and puppies are excited to meet you - and you will have time to get acquainted with them. An experienced outdoor guide and huskies will take you on a trek through the rolling arctic hills. Before we start exploring the surrounding area on foot, you will be given the option to take along "your own"husky on the trek. Back at the Wilderness Centre you will be offered coffee and cake in the Lavvo (Sami Tentlike building). Your experience in nature concludes with your coach drive to the port. Please note: dogs are changing their fur in the summer and may look a little scruffy; this is not a sign of neglect, but a natural process. Dogs will be happy to see guests and may jump up in joy; guests should therefore be prepared that they might get dirty, especially if it has been raining. 11 POLARIA CENTRE & WILDERNESS CENTRE (APPROX. 3.5 HOURS) - TSO05 3:30 Thanks to Tromsø's location some 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, the town is popular as a starting point for many arctic expeditions and considered to be the gateway to the Arctic. This entertaining excursion combines a visit to the fascinating Polaria Centre with a trip to a husky farm and wilderness camp. First up is the Polaria Centre, where you can go for a polar walk, take a look at a range of aquariums supporting marine life typically found in polar areas and enjoy a wide-screen film about "life in the freezer. Then you'll make your way to the wonderful wilderness camp run by Tove Sorensen and Tore Albrightsen, along with their 3 children. The camp is also home to a pack of more than 300 Alaskan huskies, which the couple successfully breeds in these pristine surroundings. 12 Stavanger (Norge) on 8 juni 2016 BYTUR INTRODUCTION TO STAVANGER (APPROX. 2 HOURS) - STA05 2 A short sightseeing excursion that covers the highlights of Stavanger. We will pass Stavanger Cathedral, built in 1125 and the only Cathedral in Norway to retain all of its original architectural features. In front of the Cathedral lies the colourful market square. We will drive through Eiganes Road lined with elegant villas and pass Ledaal Manor, the King's residence when in town. The excursion continues towards the sandy beaches of Jæreb before returning to the city through Stavanger's old town, home to the best-preserved wooden village in Europe which dates back to the XVI and XVII centuries. Thanks to the tunnel, a journey that once took hours can now be completed in a mere 30 minutes. A visit to the island's beautiful Utstein Abbey is next. It is regarded as Norway's best-restored monastery and is still in active use today. The monastery is dedicated to St. Laurence and dates back to the 13th century. Towards the end of the 18th century Stavanger became a leading commercial and industrial town; the herring fisheries were a key commercial activity and canning factories flourished, as did shipbuilding. Today oil-related activities have grown in importance both in and around Stavanger. Our excursion begins with a drive along the Dirdal River to Byrkjedals-tunet, a former 1920s cheese factory which today houses a restaurant, a candle maker's workshop and shops selling souvenirs and traditional handicrafts. Refreshments will be served with time afterwards to browse the area. Continue by bus to the nearby Gloppedalsuren, Norway's largest field of boulders - some as big as houses. 14 NATURSKØNNE VEJE LYSEFJORD CRUISE (2.5 HOURS / 3 HOURS) - STA02 2:30 Spread out in the waters off the northern Norwegian coastline near the town of Stavanger lies a group of larger and smaller islands that is simply referred to as the Stavanger Archipelago. While many of the islands are only sparsely inhabited by humans, they are home to abundant wildlife and boast spectacular scenery. There is no better way to enjoy views of the rugged coastlines and dramatic landscapes of both Norway and these islands than from the comfort of a modern boat, cruising in the direction of Lysefjord and the incredible cliff-top vantage point known as Pulpit Rock. When you see the way it towers over the fjord, you will understand how it got its name. 15 Oslo (Norway) fr 10 juni 2016 BYTUR INTRODUCTION TO OSLO (APPROX. 3.5 HOURS) - OSL01 3:30 This overview of Oslo provides a brief insight into the rich culture and history that the capital of Norway has to offer. Leaving the port we will embark on a scenic tour of the main streets and squares of Norway's main city, and en route we pass some of Oslo's most important architectural landmarks including the Town Hall, the Parliament, the National Theatre and the Royal Residence. Further on we will stop to visit Vigeland Park, which contains magnificent examples of the work of famed Norwegian sculptor, Gustav Vigeland. Over 150 sculptures are assembled here, and his oeuvres represent the full range of the human lifecycle, depicting all stages of man from birth to old age. Leaving the Park we will head to the hill at Holmenkollen, which provides a panoramic view of Oslo from above, and a chance to take photographs. We will then proceed to Oslo's modern district, where we will find Oslo's most contemporary buildings, including the celebrated Oslo Opera House. Home to the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, this stunning piece of post-modern architecture was only recently completed in 2008; the award-winning structure is built from white Italian marble and characterized by large inclined plateaus. Walk up the sloping banks of this fabulous building to its rooftop, for an expansive view of the attractive harbour. Return to the port. Please note: guests using a wheelchair can take part, but should be aware that several steps lead up to the Opera House roof. Voksne: DKK børn: DKK KULTUR OG HISTORIE CITY TOUR & OPEN AIR MUSEUM ( APPROX. 3.5 HOURS ) - OSL03 3:30 Spend a few enjoyable hours off the ship exploring the varied attractions of lovely Oslo, Norway's capital city. A drive-by tour of Oslo's main sights makes a fine start to this half-day outing, after which the tour tempo will change to a more sedate pace when you reach Frogner Park. This amazing inner-city recreational area covers a huge 45 hectares and is also home to the wonderful "Vigeland Sculpture Arrangement. This tribute to the famous Norwegian sculptor, Gustav Vigeland, comprises more than 150 works of art that serve to represent the entire cycle of human life, from infancy to old age. Vigeland lived from 1869 to 1943 and is also noted for having designed the medal awarded to winners of the Nobel Peace Prize. You will then make your way to the Bygdøy peninsula, a part of Oslo city, to visit an open-air museum which features 150 wooden buildings that are representative of the styles common in Norway's various regions. One of the country's oldest structures, the 13th-century Viking Gol Stave Church, also forms part of the complex. The trip is rounded off with a walk around downtown Oslo, with the option of returning to the ship by coach or staying longer to make your own way back on foot. 16 CITY TOUR, VIKING AND KON TIKI MUSEUM ( APPROX. 3 HOURS ) - OSL02 3 The attractive city of Oslo is Norway's capital and looks back on a rich history going right back to its foundation by King Harald III c This culturebased tour begins with a drive-by look at Oslo's main landmarks in the city centre, which certainly include the Royal Palace, on your way to Frogner Park. Covering an area of some 45 hectares, this super-sized city park also hosts a fabulous collection of art in the so-called "Vigeland Sculpture Arrangement. This exhibition of sculptural art comprises the lifework of the famous Norwegian sculptor, Gustav Vigeland, and is made up of more than 150 works that represent the full range of the human condition - from birth to death. Vigeland lived from 1869 to 1943 and is also known for having designed the medal that is awarded to winners of the Nobel Peace Prize. The tour then continues on to the nearby Bygdøy peninsula for a first stop at the fascinating Viking Ship Museum, whose copious collection of Viking artefacts includes three authentic longboats dating back to c. 900 to 1,000 A.D.. To round out your Oslo experience, you will also pay a visit to the Kon-Tiki Museum for a look at the famous balsa-wood raft that the legendary Norwegian explorer and zoologist Thor Heyerdahl used to cross the Pacific Ocean in 1969 as well as the reed vessel Heyerdahl used on his Ra II expedition. Continue through Oslo's attractive residential areas to Holmenkollen Hill from where you have a fantastic view over the city and the fjord below.
