Throughout her battle with cancer, Lisa remained human, honest and engaging in her relationships with her family and friends, with her health care workers, with her audience. She also educated the comic strip s readers about the importance of cancer screenings, research and clinical trials, and being an informed, involved patient. Lisa s Legacy Fund, established by University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center in cooperation with Mr. Batiuk, advances his commitment to cancer research and education. In 2007, Mr. Batiuk published Lisa s Story: The Other Shoe, a collection of the Lisa comic strips in book form. One hundred percent of proceeds from the sales of the book and donations to Lisa s Legacy Fund go directly to support University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center research on all cancer diagnoses and community education programs. Mr. Batiuk has designed a pin with Lisa s image to symbolize the courage and hope shown by cancer patients and their loved ones. Lisa s pin, in antique silver, is available in limited edition for $25 ($20 is tax deductible and benefits Lisa s Legacy Fund). Each pin is signed by Mr. Batiuk. To purchase Lisa s pin for yourself or as a thoughtful gift for someone important to you, please go to Lisa s Story: The Other Shoe is also available for purchase on the website, where you can find more information on Lisa s Legacy Fund and the research and education programs it supports. 24 University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center UHSeidman.org 25
