Lotus Wellness Center Chair Massage We are offering an on-site 10 minute "mini" massage sessions done in a professional massage chair. An amazing and rejuvenating experience leaving you feeling refreshed and revitalized! A massage reduces muscle tension and promotes calmness -Increases energy, circulation, mental clarity and focus. The client will gain the benefits of improved circulation, increased energy and an improved sense of overall well-being immediately! All massages are fully clothed, without the use of oils and with a special focus on the neck, shoulders, back, arms, and hands. Guests will sign up on a first come, first served basis for a minimal cost of $5.00. Who Should Attend? Activity Directors, Activity Assistants, Administrators, Social Workers, Nurses and Volunteers working in any Long Term Care Facilities, Assisted Living, Adult Day Care and Retirement Home will find this information valuable in developing a quality activity program. The information provided can be made to fit any type of setting. Banquet Night Our evening banquet will be highlighted by the presentation of awards for Entertainment will be provided. Speakers "ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE & DEMENTIA CARE SEMINAR" By Lisa Ost-Beikmann This is the required seminar for those interested in pursuing CDP (Certified Dementia Practitioner) certification. To confirm that you are qualified, please go to or just come for the education. Students will receive a handout notebook with information covering: Diagnosis, Prognosis, Treatment, Communication, Feeling, Depression, Repetitive Behavior, Paranoia, Hallucinations, Wandering, Hoarding, Aggressive Behaviors, Catastrophic Reactions, Intimacy & Sexuality, Personal Care, Pain, Nutrition, Activities, Staff & Family Support, Environment, Diversity & Cultural Competence, Spiritual and End of Life. Please note participants If you want to apply for the certification for Certified Dementia Practitioner there will be a fee to send in your registration and applicable paperwork. The regular fee is $100 but the ADAM participants will be getting the reduced price of $25 IF they mail within 30 days of the class. Lisa Ost-Beikmann is a Certified Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Trainer and is also a member of the Kansas Dementia Task Force working with CMS to reduce the use of anti-psychotropic drugs. As the Education Outreach Trustee for NAAP, she is the co-leader from her organization working with CMS on a program Best Practices to orient and share with Activity Professionals different ideas on how to provide a dementia patient alternative care practices. Lisa has developed a true passion for finding ways to assist individuals with dementia have a higher quality of life. As an Activity Consultant- Board Certified with NAAPCC, she consults throughout the state of Kansas in SNF, LTC and AL facilities as well as Adult Day Cares. Lisa first began working in the long-term care setting while in high school as a Certified Nurses Aid. After working in customer related positions, she returned to her hometown and first employer to take over as the Activity Director. Lisa worked for five years building the program, getting her MEPAP certification thru NCCAP and NAAPCC. She has volunteered at the annual conference for the Kansas Activity Directors Association and quickly became involved in
4 the National Association of Activity Professionals upon joining their organization. Lisa was the Kansas State contact for a year and then became the Education Outreach Trustee for NAAP. She is responsible for Lunch & Learn webinars held bi-monthly. She also coordinates the mid-year NAAP Education Summit. Lisa feels very fortunate to have met so many individuals in this field that have assisted and guided her in her true passion. This course normally costs $185 per person without the meal included. THE WII-MORE THAN JUST GAMES Presented by Candi Cole, AD, Laplata Nursing Home. Have you tried the Wii games with your residents? How about for exercises? There are also other ways to make your Wii useful to your Activity program. Candi will demonstrate as well as tell you about these ideas. WALK A MILE presented by Teressa Leeds, RN from the Living Center in Marshall, MO. The Walk a Mile program was developed to give staff the opportunity to walk a mile in resident s shoes in order to improve caregiver sensitivity. Beginning in March 2014, CNA students, new staff and now current staff of the Living Center in Marshall, MO, have spent a day living the life of a long-term care resident. This presentation will highlight some of the lessons learned by staff in such an experience. The information also will assist participants in creating their own Walk a Mile program. Staff surveyors recently complimented the Living Center on the impact that is evident in the staff as a result of this program. HOW ACTIVITY STAFF CAN HELP SUPPORT DURING TIMES OF GRIEF, including keepsakes, conversations, TPOPP and Advance Directives presented by Jill Wilke, RN, MS, CPLC Director of Chronic Care, Lake Regional Health System Jill has been a nurse for 27 years. She began her career in Evanston, IL outside of Chicago as an NICU nurse. She moved to La Crosse WI and worked in the NICU/PNICU, and ER as a bedside nurse. She then became the Organ/Tissue Donation liaison for the hospital and moved into the bereavement department. She was the lead educator for Resolve Through Sharing, see for more on this national and international program. She developed the pediatric and adult bereavement course for RTS. Jill is currently the director of Palliative Chronic Care Management/hospice/and home care at Lake Regional Health Systems in Osage Beach, MO. Jill received my MS from Winona State University, Winona, MN in May of This program will include information on what staff can do to help during times of grief, how to start the conversation about advance directives, and information on the Transportable Physician Orders for Patient Preferences (TPOPP) and Advance Directives. CREATING ACTIVITIES WITH THE INDIVIDUAL IN MIND Presented by Marci McKie, Memory Care Consultant. Marci will show participants how to create your calendar so that it meets the needs of all your residents, not just the 10 that attend Bingo. She will also talk about activities for the men in your group. USING ART PROGRAMS TO ENHANCE MEMORIES Presented by Marci McKie, Memory Care Consultant. Marci will be discussing her own experience with being a Memories in the Making facilitator with the Alzheimer s Association. She will also provide some hands on activities to encourage creative expression. Marci Mckie has twenty eight years of experience in the field of Long-term Care. She began her journey as an Activity Director in a 150 bed skilled care facility and has since worked in Adult Day Care specific to Alzheimer s disease, as the director of an Alzheimer s Unit and as a Memory Care Consultant for the Alzheimer s Association to currently working for Platinum Health Care Facilities as their Memory Care Consultant. She has presented at Missouri Healthcare Association, K.A.D.A and at A.D.A.M as well as Missouri Ombudsman. Marci also facilitated the Activity Director s Workshop for Missouri Healthcare for approximately 4 years. Her passion is keeping people engaged in life despite barrier s and limitations! Life is too short not to LIVE it or LOVE it!
