Cardenal Herrera Oria, Madrid Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP) offers a Postgraduate Master s Program with excellent academic standards in economic theory and international economics. It is also promoted by Instituto de Estudios Fiscales (IEF), and Centro de Estudios Económicos y Comerciales (CECO). The Master in Economic Theory and International Economics, METIE, will be taught in English by experienced and internationally recognized professors, with valuable teaching and research experience. Classes will take place from mid-october to early May, normally from 5PM to 9PM Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The Master Project may be presented in July or September. The METIE is a one-year program, although part-time enrolment is an option for those students needing more flexibility. The METIE is a great opportunity both for graduate students who want to strengthen their skills and for professionals who want to improve and broaden their career prospects, particularly in an international environment or in multilateral organizations. The Master is especially interesting for those aiming at becoming members of the High-Level Corps of State Economists and Trade Experts in the Government of Spain. 1 / UIMP

4 Objectives The METIE provides the students with advanced knowledge in economic theory and international economics. The main purpose is that post-graduate students develop professional careers that involve valuable and qualified tasks. Therefore, the students may take advantage of the skills provided by this Master in these different opportunities: > Attempt the entrance into the Government of Spain High-Level Corps of State Economists and Trade Experts, as the Master deals with most topics to be studied in the tests of that recruitment process. The Master may also be helpful for other recruitment processes in official institutions with economic content. > Succeed in job recruitment processes in multilateral organizations, for instance through Young Economists Programs in United Nations Agencies or in other institutions with an economic dimension such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank Group (WBG) or the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). > Join economic units or research divisions in big corporations which aim at knowing economic developments in depth in order to better foresee them and adapt to them. > Continue an academic or research career in Universities or in research centers, including the completion of PhD studies. Structure The METIE is conceived as a one-year program, although candidates with the need for more flexibility and time can enroll on a part-time mode so that the Master may be completed in two years. The Official Master s degree requires the successful completion of 60 ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System), 45 ECTS of courses and 15 ECTS of the Master Project. Every 7 ECTS correspond to 50 hours of class-time and 175 hours of student work. The program is structured in three terms: > Fall: from mid-october to January, with 20 ECTS > Winter: from February to early May, with 25 ECTS > Spring: from May to July, with 15 ECTS corresponding to the Master Project (MP). The MP can be presented in July or September Before the start of the program, there will be a two-week optional module (equivalent to 4 ECTS and with no additional cost) with basic training in economics, mathematics and quantitative tools in order to level the initial training. Depending on the candidates background, the admission could be conditional to the enrolment in this optional module. 2 / UIMP

7 Admission Requirements For admission to the Master, students must have an official university degree from an institution of higher education in a country included in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). Students with an equivalent degree issued by institutions outside the EHEA can be accepted without an explicit, official recognition of qualification, after proving the equivalence of the education level and that such us degree gives access to Master education in the country of the issuing institution. The admission of these students does not mean that their degree is recognized in any context other than the admission to the Master. The Master is particularly suitable for students or professionals with a background in Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics and Law. In the admission process will assess the curriculum vitae (captions, transcript, English proficiency, other additional training and eventually professional experience), motivation, letters of reference (optional) and any other information provided by the candidate. It requires a high level of English as the Master is taught in English and the final project must be presented in the same language. Evaluation > Evaluation is continuous, via course exams and student s work. > Successful completion of the courses will require a minimum grade. Award of Degree Upon successful completion of the 45 ECTS credits of the courses and the 15 ECTS of the Master Project, the students will receive the Official Master s Degree in Economic Theory and International Economics, issued by the Chancellor of the UIMP. Schedule The courses start in mid-october and end in early May. Lectures will take place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays late afternoon (usually from 17:00 to 21:00). These schedules do not prevent other classes can be scheduled at different times throughout the program, if necessary, to comply with the training objectives. 5 / UIMP

8 Application and Tuition Fees Both the registration procedure and the required documents should be consulted in Maximum number of students: 30 Application period: May to October, 1 st Applications for admission are made through the site The documents should be sent by mail to ceco@ceco.es and attached in JPG or PDF format. Required documentation: 1. Photocopy of DNI (National Identity Document) for Spaniards; Passport or Foreign Identification Number (NIE) for non-spaniards. 2. Certified photocopy of Degree giving access to the University Master s. 3. Personal academic transcripts (original or certified photocopy). 4. Curriculum Vitae. 5. One passport-size photo. Students with a non-homologated foreign degree, or those with a degree in the process of being homologated, are also requested to provide: 1. A document from the university where they have studied attesting to the fact that the courses completed qualify the student for access to post-graduate study in the university s home country. 2. Personal academic transcripts indicating the official duration of one s studies in academic years, the course of studies followed, classes taken, and the grades and credits earned in each class. Important: Academic documents presented are to be legalized and translated into Spanish, where necessary. The requirement for legalization shall not be enforced for documents issued in member states of the European Union, or from states having signed the European Economic Space Agreement. Admission of the candidates will be decided by a designated Academic Commission. 6 / UIMP

9 Registration period: Until October, 25 th Tuition Fee: Students should pay at CECO the tuition fee (rate per ECTS). Students should pay at UIMP the following fees: > Administrative fee, in the first registration > Office expenses, per year > School insurance (under 28 years old), per year Other charges: > Personal academic certification > Issuance of Master s Degree NOTE: Registration and deadlines: Tuition and administrative fees, and deadlines for each academic year, are published on the website of the UIMP, upon approval by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.
