COMMITTED TO OUR STUDENTS One of the most commonly held myths about higher education is that a private college is not affordable. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Private college is attainable. Higher education is one of the most important investments you can make. Your investment of time, energy and money into your college education returns much more than a degree. It provides you with a set of opportunities, friendships and experiences that will shape your life. We encourage you to discover the value that a Millsaps College education provides. Millsaps invests substantial funds in financial assistance to help make it possible for students who are admitted to the College to attend. Our aim is simple: to make an exceptional education accessible to all accepted students by providing support based on academic promise, personal potential, and/or financial need. Financing a Millsaps education is a partnership between you, your family and the College. If at any time you find that you have questions about the financial aid process at Millsaps, we encourage you to contact the Financial Aid Office at financialaid@millsaps.edu or call Fact. More than 80% of Millsaps students receive some form of need-based or merit-based financial assistance.
TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID SCHOLARSHIPS Merit scholarships at Millsaps are competitive and are awarded without regard to financial need. From our largest scholarship available to all applicants, the Millsaps Presidential Scholarship, to smaller, specialized scholarships, all awards seek to recognize outstanding achievement and potential for success in a collegiate setting. Millsaps merit-based scholarships range in value from $10,000 per year to the full cost of tuition. Fact. At Millsaps, the average aid package of students with demonstrated need is $31,863. All scholarships are renewable for up to three academic years (four years total) provided that the recipient meets certain academic requirements. GRANTS Grants, like scholarships, are gift aid to the student, so these funds do not have to be repaid. Federal, state and institutional grants are available to qualified students, either based on financial need or merit. Federal Grants (need-based) Federal Pell Grants Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG) State Grants for Mississippi Residents (merit-based) Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant (MTAG) $500-$1,000 per year Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grant (MESG) $2,500 per year Millsaps Awards and Grants Range in value from $5,000 to $9,000 per year
WORK STUDY Federal Work Study on-campus jobs and Federal Work Study Community Service off-campus jobs are available to students having demonstrated financial need as determined by the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Eligibility for Federal Work Study positions does not guarantee placement. Millsaps makes every effort to provide eligible students with jobs, but positions are limited. LOANS Federal loan programs are available to students and parents. These loans offer fixed, low-interest rates. All federal loan programs require the completion of the FAFSA. Federal Direct Parent PLUS loans can be requested up to the cost of attendance minus student financial aid. Detailed information about federal loans is available on the Millsaps financial aid webpage, millsaps.edu/finaid. Federal Direct Loans (DL) Subsidized need based with government subsidy of interest while the student is enrolled at least half-time. Unsubsidized not need based, interest accrues while the student is attending school. Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) An optional federal loan program for parent(s) who wish to access additional resources beyond what a student is eligible to receive. Federal Perkins Loans Available to students with exceptional financial need; available funds are limited. OUTSIDE SCHOLARSHIPS All students are encouraged to seek out and apply for outside scholarships. These funds are added to your existing financial aid award. Outside scholarships are available from a wide variety of sources including religious organizations, corporations, civic organizations, communities and private foundations. To find scholarships for which you may be eligible, consult with your high school guidance counselor and utilize internet scholarship search engines.

THE FINANCIAL AID PROCESS MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS Your application for admission to Millsaps College serves as your application for merit scholarships. If you have already completed your admissions application, you are halfway through the financial aid process. NEED-BASED AWARDS All students who wish to be considered for need-based financial aid must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Additionally, students who apply to Millsaps under our Early Action plan and wish to receive a financial aid offer early in the year must complete and submit the CSS PROFILE. MISSISSIPPI SCHOLARSHIPS Complete the Mississippi Scholarships application online at Additional information is available on the Millsaps web site at millsaps.edu/finaid. ADMISSIONS DEADLINES AND NOTIFICATION Application Notification Deposit Deadlines Mailed Deadline Early Action December 1 January 15 May 1 Regular Decision February 1 March 15 May 1 FINANCIAL AID DEADLINES AND NOTIFICATION Application Deadlines Notification Mailed CSS PROFILE (Early Action only)* January 1 February 1 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) March 1 April 1 * Early Action students who are accepted and wish to receive a need-based financial aid award package early (by February 1) must have the results of the CSS PROFILE submitted by January 1. Early Action students who do not submit the PROFILE results will be mailed an award package that reflects only the merit-based aid they are eligible to receive.
QUESTIONS/ANSWERS HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR FINANCIAL AID AT MILLSAPS? Millsaps awards merit-based and need-based aid. Merit-based scholarships are awarded to students based on a holistic review of their application file. Need-based aid is determined from the results of the PROFILE (if submitted) and the FAFSA. WHEN WILL I LEARN IF I AM GOING TO RECEIVE A SCHOLARSHIP OR GRANT FROM MILLSAPS COLLEGE? Merit-based and fine arts scholarships are typically awarded at the time of acceptance, although some scholarships are designated at a later date. Students accepted under Early Action will be mailed a financial aid award package by February 1. Early Action students who have submitted the results of the CSS PROFILE will also be notified of any need-based assistance for which they qualify at that time. In mid-march, the Office of Financial Aid will send financial aid award letters containing scholarships, grants, loans, and student employment eligibility to students who have been accepted to Millsaps College under our regular decision option. Students who have completed the necessary financial aid application will also be notified of any need-based assistance for which they qualify at that time. IF I RECEIVE A MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIP FROM MILLSAPS COLLEGE, WOULD I STILL BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE ANY ADDITIONAL GRANTS FROM THE COLLEGE? Yes. More than half of the students who receive merit-based scholarships also qualify for additional need-based grants from the College. The greatest percentage of the College s financial aid budget is designated for need-based funding. Did you know? When you call the Office of Financial Aid at Millsaps you actually get to talk to a person. We know you by name and not by a number. Call us at
DOES MILLSAPS COLLEGE REQUIRE ANY FINANCIAL AID FORMS IN ADDITION TO THE FAFSA? Yes, Millsaps requests that Early Action students who are accepted and wish to receive a need-based financial aid award package early (by February 1) must have the results of the CSS PROFILE submitted by January 1. Early Action students who do not submit the PROFILE results will be mailed an award package that reflects only the merit-based aid they are eligible to receive. Early Action non-profile filers will be sent a revised financial aid package should they subsequently submit the results of the PROFILE or FAFSA. WHAT OTHER FACTORS SHOULD I CONSIDER WHEN EVALUATING MY COST TO ATTEND MILLSAPS COLLEGE? Millsaps College provides graduates with something that will serve them well a holistic education that will support them forever. An added bonus is the fact that a high percentage of students attending schools like Millsaps receive their degree in four years. A recent study by The Annapolis Group on The Value and Impact of the College Experience showed that 87% of Liberal Arts Colleges alumni reported graduating in four years as opposed to 51% at public universities. Graduating in four years can balance out the cost-of-attendance difference between Millsaps and state colleges and universities.
