CHAPTER 1 UniPrint Infinity Introduction Introduction A failover cluster is a group of independent machines that work together to increase the availability of applications and services. If one of the clustered machines, called nodes, fails, another node takes over and provides service with minimum disruption to end user productivity. This guide is designed to assist you in installing and configuring UniPrint Infinity in a two-node failover cluster. Installing UniPrint Infinity components in a cluster, ensures minimal disruption to printing processes in your environment. Only two UniPrint components can be installed in a cluster, UniPrint Bridge and UniPrint Print Server. UniPrint Infinity only supports failover two-node clusters with an active node and an inactive node. Network load balancing cluster is not supported. Example Deployment Scenarios For Windows Server 2003 and 2008/R2 The following diagrams describe a two-node UniPrint Bridge failover cluster and a two-node UniPrint Print Server cluster. Depending on your needs either one cluster or both clusters can be created. Figure 1: A two-node UniPrint Bridge failover cluster.
2 UniPrint Infinity Figure 2: A two-node UniPrint Print Server failover cluster. Figure 3: UniPrint Bridge and UniPrint Print Server clusters.
Chapter 1: Introduction 3 For Windows Server 2012/R2 BEST PRACTICE: The storage volumes of one cluster should not be exposed to any other server including those of another cluster. When deploying UniPrint Infinity clusters for both UniPrint Bridge and UniPrint Print Server components, ensure that the UniPrint Bridge cluster is created and configured first before proceeding with UniPrint Print Server. Windows Server 2012/R2 introduced many changes in functionality to the traditional failover cluster of Windows Server 2008 and earlier. These include support for shared virtual hard disks, improved handling of virtual machines in a Hyper-V cluster, improved handling of Cluster Shared Volumes and improved handling of the cluster quorum. In Windows Server 2012/R2, UniPrint Infinity components are installed on virtual machines that are hosted on one of two clustered Hyper-V servers. Since this is an even-node cluster, it is strongly recommended that the Node majority with witness cluster quorum configuration be used. The following diagram describes a two-node Hyper-V failover cluster with UniPrint Bridge and UniPrint Print Server installed on virtual machine roles. Depending on your needs, either one, or both virtual machines can be created on the same Hyper-V node.

Chapter 4: Configuring SecurePrint in a Cluster Right-click the vpad device and select Enable. 11. Once enabled, return to the vpad and the user name entry screen should appear. Troubleshooting SecurePrint In The Event Of A Failover If print jobs have not been released when the active Bridge or Print Server fails, then those print jobs cannot be released until the failed node comes back up again. To circumvent this issue, although it is not recommended, you can turn off encryption which will allow the print jobs to be released.
28 UniPrint Infinity If the UniPrint Bridge is clustered, do the following: 1. On the active Bridge node, open the Registry Editor. 2. Locate the key, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\UniPrint\Control Service\Processors\QUEUEJOB and then modify the Disarm DWORD value to 1. Click OK. 3. Close the Registry Editor. If the UniPrint Print Server is clustered, do the following: 1. On the active Print Server, open the Registry Editor. 2. Locate the key, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\UniPrint\Control Service\Processors\GASSJOB and then modify the Disarm DWORD value to 1. Click OK. 3. Close the Registry Editor.
CHAPTER 5 UniPrint Infinity High Availability Printing in Windows 2012 High Availability Printing in Windows 2012 This chapter provides additional guidance for installing and configuring UniPrint Infinity in a Windows Server 2012/R2 Hyper-V failover cluster. Before installing UniPrint Infinity in a Hyper-V failover cluster, ensure that your cluster is correctly set up and working properly. The following instructions are intended for Windows Server 2012/R2 only. If you have a different version of Windows Server deployed, refer to the chapter that is intended for the specified Windows version in your environment. If you plan to cluster both the UniPrint Bridge and the UniPrint Print Server, start by installing and configuring the UniPrint Bridge first on a Hyper-V virtual machine. Take note of the Bridge virtual machine s IP address. While installing UniPrint Print Server on a different virtual machine, enter the Bridge virtual machine IP address in the UniPrint Bridge Configuration dialog box, instead of the Hyper-V host IP address. How Failover Works in Windows Server 2012/R2 Since UniPrint components are installed on virtual machines, service stoppages are monitored by both the Service Control Manager on the virtual machine and Virtual Machine Monitoring on the Hyper-V node. 1. On the first service stoppage, the Service Control Manager restarts the service. 2. On the second service stoppage, the Service Control Manager restarts the service again. 3. On the third service stoppage, Virtual Machine Monitoring takes over and restarts the virtual machine. 4. After the virtual machine restarts and if the service stops again (forth service stoppage), the Service Control Manager restarts the service. 5.
