3 STATE BAR OF TEXAS TREY APFFEL PRESIDENT Direct Correspondence to: APFFEL LAW FIRM 1406 W. MAIN ST., STE. C LEAGUE CITY, TX TEL: (281) FAX: (281) Greetings Friends: Welcome to the 2015 State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting! I am pleased you could join us this year in San Antonio. Get ready to experience two days full of networking opportunities, special events, and CLE sessions led by some of the nation s top legal professionals. At our Annual Meeting it doesn t matter if you are a solo practitioner, a large firm attorney, a defense attorney, or a judge, because there are programs for everyone. We are honored to welcome Fred H. Bartlit, Jr., the founding partner of Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar and Scott LLP, as this year s General Session Luncheon keynote speaker. Bartlit is a nationally known and respected trial lawyer who served as chief counsel of the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and as trial counsel for President George W. Bush in the Bush v. Gore election contest trial. He will speak on how to face the challenges to our profession s future, and I look forward to hearing his insights. Other distinguished keynotes include Texas Tribune Editor in Chief and CEO Evan Smith, who will speak at the Bar Leaders Recognition Luncheon, and Judge Ken Starr, president and chancellor of Baylor University, our speaker at the Bench Bar Breakfast. Both are engaging presenters and founts of knowledge in their fields. The State Bar of Texas and the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society will present a discussion on the legacy of Magna Carta in celebration of the historic document s 800th anniversary. The technology-focused adaptable lawyer track returns again for 2015, along with the popular 60 Apps in 60 Minutes. Also returning is Ignite SBOT, which offers presenters five minutes each to speak on their topic of choice. Every year, devoted volunteers and State Bar of Texas staff put in countless hours of hard work to ensure this meeting is a success. Please know that your efforts are appreciated. Thank you for the privilege of serving as your State Bar president and for attending this wonderful event. Enjoy the festivities! Sincerely, Trey Apffel President State Bar of Texas
