2 Core Purpose Mission The Mission of the Mount Carmel Area School District is to provide a comprehensive curriculum, with the belief that all are capable of learning in a caring and safe environment where all students will develop self-confidence and the ability to work independently and cooperatively. Vision As the mission of the Mount Carmel Area School District unfolds into all aspects of the school/community and is achieved, all students will meet success and be prepared to enter the next phase of their lives. The vision of the Mount Carmel Area Elementary and Junior Senior High School includes: A comprehensive curricula which integrates the PA Academic Standards and Anchors. Increased technology skills for all students. All schools will meet Adequately Yearly Progress including all sub-groups. All teachers will be highly qualified as defined by PDE. All teachers will meet Act 48 and certification requirements. Professional development will be key and a must for all staff. The school environment will be safe and foster community members who are productive citizens. The learning environment will share a common goal with differentiated instructional practices applied to teaching and learning. Parental involvement will be an integral component of our schools and community. Support programs and resources will meet the needs of all students. Facilities will foster a conducive learning environment. Partnerships with colleges, universities, business, and industry will support the needs of preparing our graduates for the work force, military, and post-secondary education. The school environment will be conducive to meeting the needs of diverse student groups including cultural, racial, creed, and gender issues. Shared Values We will be a district that prepares students to meet the multiple challenges they will face in all facets of life. Belief Statements We believe: 1. In a flexible and progressive education Needs Assessment The Mount Carmel Area School District conducted a district wide technology survey and will continue to complete the Meteri technology surveys. This data indicates a need for on-going professional development for staff based on their technology skill levels. Teacher needs were identified and the district will continue through the life of the strategic plan to provide professional development opportunities. Wilkes University will continue to offer an on-site master's degree in Classroom Technology. Bloomsburg University will offer the Instructional Technology Master's certification. The core technology committee will continue to train staff on-site on technology skills and usage of district technology resources. The district is in need of professional development for technology based resources including: Compass Learning Performance Tracker Lettergrade WVIA web based resources Computer Based Program Grades 9-12 for Alternative Education, summer school, and remediation/enrichment. Goals and Strategies Goal: Improved Communication : Increased communication between parents, teachers, students and community members. Strategy: Implement LetterGrade : Improve communication between parents, teachers, and students through the implementation of LetterGrade, an online grading, attendance, and planning resource. Educational Practices: Artful Use of Infrastructure, Continuous Learning Ethic, Quality Leadership, Quality Teaching LetterGrade Teacher Technology committee will train faculty and staff on the implementation of LetterGrade. Strategy: Compass Learning : This is a co-curricular program that is designed to enhance classroom teaching in grades 1 through 8. Educational Practices: Artful Use of Infrastructure, Continuous Learning Ethic, Quality Leadership, Quality Teaching Compass Learning Staff members will be updated on technology and software upgrades. Compass Learning Odyssey training at the high school level for staff members involved. Summer of 2006 we will conduct a one week teacher academy to assist teachers with web page development. Throughout the year we will utilize our team of teachers to teach staff defined technology skills as noted on the district survey results. We will offer on-site Wilkes University courses for a masters degree in technology. During the next three years all staff will be trained on usage of Compass Learning, Performance Tracker, a web based data management system, Lettergrade, a management system for attendance, grading, and lesson plan development. We will continue to implement the goals of our EETT grant. All teachers wil submit a portfolio noting technology integration into teaching and learning. Starting we have appointed a part-time technology coordinator. All administrative staff will continue to be trained on usage of FoxPro through the CSIU. Many teachers are also involved in Math Pro where they will receive a palm pilot. Teachers will also be trained on usage of WVIA video streaming resources. All teachers will complete the Meteri tecnology survey two times per year. All teachers will participate in in-house technology trainings. All teachers will have the opportunity to attend technology trainings outside the district though resources such as the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit.

10 Monitoring Monitoring of the goals of the technology plan will be conducted annually throughout the life of the plan. We will continue to complete the technology surveys on-line which were initiated through the EETT grant project. All teachers are required to turn in a portfolio at the end of the school term showcasing technology integration into teaching and learning. Usage reports will be generated for the web based technology resources such as Compass Learning, Performance Tracker, Lettergrade, and WVIA. The district web page will also showcase teacher websites. Evaluation Evaluation will include the following components: Review of strategic plan goals. Comparison of PSSA data. Adequate Yearly Progress status. Technology courses offered and number of students participating. Meteri survey results. District technology survey results. Teacher portfolio. Teacher plan books/lesson. Number of teachers taking professional development courses/workshops relevant to technology integration into teaching and learning.
