16 1-6 Features of the Bosch Rexroth Interconnect Technology Rexroth Connection Cable 1.3 Load Capability of Motor Power Cables The Bosch Rexroth motor power cables are based on VDE0298 part 4 (1998) and the standard for European countries EN (1993). The current rating specified is applicable to the installation method B2. Owing to the temperature correction factor that is applicable to Bosch Rexroth cables, the current rating is increased as compared with the values specified in EN (1993). Cables of other manufacturers, other installation methods and/or other environmental conditions may require greater cable cross-sections and other load limits. Note: The machine/system manufacturer is responsible for selecting the cable cross-sections. Observe the regulations of the country where the motors are to be used. USA: see National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 79), National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), Underwriters Laboratories (UL) regulations as well as local building regulations. The following table shows the current rating of Bosch Rexroth and standard PVC cables in relation to the method of installation at an ambient temperature of +40 C. 18 1-8 Features of the Bosch Rexroth Interconnect Technology Rexroth Connection Cable 1.4 Connection Cables Cable Layout Ensure a spacing of at least 100 mm between power cables and control or signal cables (e.g. encoder cables), or Partition cable ducts metallically. KE000002v02_EN.tif Fig. 1-5: Cable duct variants Do not position control and/or signal cables near radio frequency devices, magnetic fields (transformers, inductors, etc.) or power lines. CAUTION Malfunction due to errors in the activation of motors and moving elements! Mechanical injuries! Clamping sites or couplings reduce the maximum cable lengths. Please observe the specifications below!

20 1-10 Features of the Bosch Rexroth Interconnect Technology Rexroth Connection Cable 1.6 Recommended Handling and Installation; Installing Cables in Drag Chains The reachable operating time of cables depends on the mode of installation and environmental factors at the place of action. Therefore, we have compiled a list of general recommendations on the handling of cables. By the various operating conditions could the following recommendations only be a help to make a long and faultless operation of the cables possible. General recommendations: Do never stress the cables on tension or torsion. Do never pull on the cable when loosen the connectors. Do not deviate the cables over sharp edges. Do not undergo the minimum bending radius! The same applies for storage on drums or in rings. Avoid high temperature fluctuations when storing. For storage outside use covers. Cables have to be always unrolled. Do never unroll over head. Do never use damaged cables. Recommendations on Selecting and Placing of Cables in Drag Chains To mount the cables in drag chains in the right way, some basic rules have to be taken into account. Inserting the cables into the drag chains is to be done with utmost care. The following cable installation instructions are based on our experiences. Do only use cables, which are suited for the use in drag chains. Determine the minimum bending radius of the drag chain in relation to the greatest outside diameter of the line in question. Ensure you insert the lines without tensioning them. Spread (or, even better, suspend) the cables before installing them to remove any intrinsic twist. An axial twisting of the cables should be avoided in every case. Lay only laid out or hanged out cables into the drag chains and then mount the chain into the machine. (Since it is placed in a spiral curve about the cable, the imprint on the cable must not be used as a guide line.) Ensure that the cables do not intersect or overlap each other in the chain. The cables have to be movable in the area of the bending radius as well as in the width and height. The total cross-section of the drag chain should be filled with 85-90% at the maximum. It is not allowed to fasten or to bind the cables together within the chain. When equipping the drag chain is must be taken into account that the height must be equally allocated symmetrically. In other words, install heavy cables in the outer and lightweight cables in the inner region.
21 Rexroth Connection Cable Features of the Bosch Rexroth Interconnect Technology 1-11 When fitting the drag chains with cables of varying diameters (> ± 20 %), use chains with divided chambers or racks. When fitting the drag chains with multi-layered cables, mount bars between the layers.. Before fastening the cables within the drag chains, move them at least 10 to 20 times. This relaxes the cables and brings them to a neutral position. After the machine has been operated for approx. 24 hours, readjust the length of the cables. Fasten both ends of the cables. The minimum distance is 30 times the cable diameter measured from the end point of the bending motion. Fasten the cables across a large area of the outer jacket. The inner wires (soul) may be squeezed only slightly, if at all. If the cables are squeezed strongly, their operating time will be shortened.
