3 1. Introduction The project s target is to achieve image compression with microcontroller. JPEG is a commonly photographic compression method. In general, it provides good compression ratio and quality. However, JPEG is method of lossy compression. Portable Network Graphics (PNG) is a raster graphics file format that supports lossless data compression. PNG is open format. And it is widely used on the website. Thus, this project is going to achieve JPEG and PNG image compression. The chosen hardware will be used to verify compressing ratio and processing speed. Finally, these algorithms will be made as library.

9 6. Specifications Specifications are defined based on STM3241G-EVAL and OV7670. JPEG file can be opened correctly by general PC. Correctly receive compressed image. Check the RAW data in the RAM. Use MCU s timer to count compression time.
