4 ISC Pathway Programme St Giles San Francisco Students aged 18 and above who take an International Semester Course at St Giles San Francisco can take advantage of our ISC Pathway Programme to apply to one of our partner colleges. Course Content The core element of the Pathway Programme is General English classes, but we recommend that students taking the ISC Pathway Programme also enrol on our English for Academic Purposes module during their course. This module is designed to develop key academic study skills needed at colleges in the USA. Academic Counselling Topics on English for Academic Purposes will include: Academic writing including note taking Study skills Exam techniques Introduction to the local culture. All students are offered academic counselling throughout their programme, and we help students with the application process for a two-year Associate Degree at our partner colleges. An Associate Degree can then lead to a Bachelors Degree. Our academic counsellors are also happy to assist students with applications to any other college of their choice. KEY FACTS Entry Requirements There are no entry requirements for the course but students must be at an Upper-Intermediate (B2) or Advanced (C1) level for a period of at least 6 weeks prior to college admission. 5 Partner Colleges On completion of our Pathway Programme students can be placed at a range of 2-year community colleges in the USA. To be accepted onto an Associate Degree programme some of our partner colleges require students to have been at Upper-Intermediate level (level 5/B2) for 6 or more weeks, while others require proof that students have achieved an Advanced level (level 6/C1) for 6+ weeks. We currently have partnerships with the following colleges, who guarantee you entry onto a 2-year Associate Degree course. 6 University Pathway Programme St Giles Vancouver The University Pathway Programme (UPP) is a 16-week course available at St Giles Vancouver, designed to help students succeed at a university or college in North America. The focus for students learning will be on developing English language and communication skills, social skills, academic strategies, and critical thinking. St Giles Vancouver is one of the best experiences I ve ever had. There are friendly people in the whole school and very good teachers. Jan Müller, Switzerland To achieve these objectives, students will be guided through useful projects and studies, including writing, volunteer activities, presentations, examination strategies, analytical discussions and speaker lectures. 7 Course Content The University Pathway Programme combines the following components: English Skills Development of reading, writing, listening and speaking skills as needed for successful university study. Academic Skills Note taking, essay writing, presentation skills, research techniques, exam strategies, time management and critical thinking. Exam Strategies and Practice IELTS / TOEFL / CAE practice to develop skills to take examinations. Social and Communication Skills Students will participate in various community or volunteer projects to develop research, communication, and reporting skills. These projects will be diverse, interesting, and highly beneficial to include on a resume. Course Assessment Module Tests 25% Writing 25% Presentations 25% Volunteer report 25% Academic Counselling Throughout the University Pathway Programme students will receive regular feedback on their work, individual academic counselling, career guidance and assistance with applications to universities. 8 University Pathway Course Fees 2015 St Giles San Francisco ISC Pathway Programme Prices are in $ US Dollars Entry level Tuition fees General English Course International Semester Course (ISC) *Prices are per extra week. Advanced (C1) level study for a period of at least 6 weeks prior to college progression (some partner institutions may consider Upper Intermediate (B2) level. 9 Reservations and Payment Payment Process 1 Complete the Enrolment Form and return it to the St Giles centre of your choice, with the following payments: Course Deposit of $125 (USA) or C$150 (Canada); Accommodation Placement Fee of $85 (USA) or C$220 (Canada); Registration Fee of $135 (USA) or C$125 (Canada). The Course Deposit is part of the cost of your course and is deducted from the total fees payable. 2 When we receive your Course Deposit, we send a Certificate of Registration with an invoice for the balance of fees payable. Public Holidays There are no classes on the following public holidays: USA: 1 January, 19 January, 16 February, 3 April, 25 May, 3 July, 7 September, 26 & 27 November, 25 December Canada: 1 January, 9 February, 3 April, 18 May, 1 July, 3 August, 7 September, 12 October, 11 November, 25 December 3 The total amount due must be received by the centre or by our bank at least 21 days before your course begins in order to guarantee your place. No documentation will be issued until we receive the Course Deposit. 9
