1 Southside Church is passionate about the next generation. We believe this generation is going to change the world, and this is the reason why Southside Interns exists. This one year discipleship training school for year olds combines the spiritual, academic and practical aspects of Christianity. Our Interns will work out the intensive head and heart knowledge gained in the classroom by practical service to the local church and to the poor in Mirebalais, Haiti. Southside Interns will raise up leaders who first follow Jesus, and then lead their generation to impact the world. COURSES (subject to change) Southside Interns has partnered with Portland Bible College and the courses taken during the Interns program are eligible for Portland Bible College credit. These courses were selected in order to provide each student with a foundation of Christianity, Church and how to live out their faith. 1 st Semester 2 nd Semester Basic Doctrine I Basic Doctrine II Personal Discipline Doctrine of the Church GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Certificates of Completion will be awarded to interns who have successfully completed the program in the following areas: Instruction Standards Ministry Standards Mentoring Standards Attendance Standards Financial Standards You must complete all assignments and worksheets on time and maintain at least 70% to pass credit courses. You must receive above average ratings in your Ministry. These will be based on promptness, attendance, completion of tasks and attitude. You must maintain consistent attendance in an interns freedom session small group and meet monthly with an assigned mentor. You cannot accrue more than three unexcused absences per semester. (Excused absences include: mission trips and outreaches, and prearranged excused personal absences.) You must be current on your payments each month and be paid in full at the time of graduation. This will look different day to day but the goal is the same: to start off each day putting Jesus first, and learning how to have a daily devotional life that lasts long after the Interns program. Class Time: We will be using material provided by Portland Bible College to teach these courses. They will be taught by passionate leaders seeking to get the best out of young leaders. Spiritual Growth and Life/Leadership Development: The afternoons will turn from a focus on the academic to a focus on developing as a Christian and as a leader. This will look different each day and encompass learning materials from numerous sources and current church leaders. Ministry: Each student will choose a ministry to serve during their commitment to Southside Interns. Every Wednesday afternoon each student will work closely with a leader in the ministry they are serving in. This provides a hands-on learning experience and provides a glimpse of what it is like to work at a church. On Sundays each student will be expected to serve at 2 services and sit through 1. 3 FINANCES SOUTHSIDEINTERNS The tuition for Southside Church Interns Program is $6000 per year per student (subject to change). The tuition covers instructors, guest speakers, PBC tuition, textbooks, retreats, leadership conference in the USA (location subject to change), 2 week Haiti mission trip etc. It does not, however, cover housing. There is a minimum $2215 down payment, which must be paid August 15, The remaining balance can be divided over nine monthly installments. The outstanding balance will be divided into nine monthly installments beginning September and running through May. These monthly payments are due on the 1 st of each month, and will be considered late on the 10 th. The first installment is due September 1 st. Monthly payments are determined by the size of the down payment initially made. Refund Policy If a student withdraws from school or is dismissed, tuition refund will be made as follows: First class week 85% Fourth class week 40% Second class week 75% Fifth class week 25% Third class week 60% After fifth class week none Financial Preparedness Financial preparedness is a key factor in determining whether this is the right time to become an Intern at Southside Church. This is the beginning of your leadership training. Acceptance to Southside Church Interns Program is contingent on your submission of the Potential Sources of Income Form. During your time as an Intern, you are solely response for all financial obligations. Financial Stewardship Financial stewardship is a key factor in maintaining your status as an intern. If you fall behind in the monthly payments it could jeopardize your status as an intern and could result in an early dismissal from Southside Church Interns Program. 4 ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS Age Requirement Education Requirement years old High School Graduate or GED Application Acceptance into Southside Church Interns Program will be determined by your application, interviews and the prayerful consideration of our ministry team. Timing Three factors contribute to determining whether it is the right time for you to be a Southside Intern. - Spiritual Authority Do the spiritual authorities in your life (e.g. Pastors, mentors, and parents) all agree that this is the right training environment for you at this time? - Personal Are you spiritually prepared to enter into this intensive ministry training program? Have you been faithfully attending and participating in a local church and developing your spiritual growth over the last 6 months? - Finances Are you financially able to enter the program at this time? Working full time is not an option as a Southside Intern. Part time work (up to 20 hours a week) is permitted as long as it does not interfere with your church schedule and responsibilities. Send a self-written letter/ explaining your current ministry involvement, your future plans, your personal salvation testimony, and why you want to be an intern. interns@southsidelife.com Step Three Have your Pastor send in a recommendation letter by August 1, This letter should attest to your character, ministry faithfulness, tithing practices, church involvement, and why Southside Church Interns Program is the next step for you. (If you are a partner of Southside Church, please have your current small group leader complete this). Southside Church will contact you after receiving all recommendations, forms and fees to schedule an interview. After conducting the interview via phone or in person, you will be notified regarding your enrollment status. 12 GUIDELINES FOR INTERNSHIP Spiritual Standards You will be expected to maintain consistent spiritual disciplines on a daily basis, because our internship program is focused on deepening, discovering and developing our faith. You will be expected to maintain daily alone time with God, as well as reading a series of required books on spiritual disciplines. Academic Standards You will be expected to complete all of the assignments that are given out and turn them in at the appropriate time. You are also expected to maintain at least 70% to pass credit courses. We are committed to maintain a level of academic excellence in our internship program to go along with its spiritual emphasis. Social Standards You will be expected to set aside this time for the purpose of growing your faith in the Lord as well as being involved in ministry. Because the nature of the program includes meeting new people and being socially engaged with others and because intimacy with God is the focus, we will expect all of the interns not currently dating to not pursue a relationship through the duration of the interns program. For those who enter interns already in a dating relationship, you will not be forced to end your relationship, however, would you be willing to set parameters on your dating relationship for the duration of Southside Interns program? (Please attach answer separately). Ministry Standards You will be given a unique opportunity to represent both the Lord and Southside Church to our community. Because we are very committed to maintaining a high level of integrity and excellence in all we do, the standard of your ministry involvement is to be of the highest level. Living Standards If you will be living with a host family, you will be expected to be clean, considerate, and respectful at all times. You will be expected to honor the other interns, as well as the host families and the staff at all times. Should a problem arise, it should be brought to our attention at once. 13 Disciplinary Standards You will be given every opportunity to make any adjustments needed to raise your level of performance to meet our standards for involvement. However, if the guidelines and/or the expectations are not maintained, the following actions will be taken: Verbal Warning Written Warnings Dismissal of an Intern Immediate Removal If and when it becomes apparent that the standards and the expectation of the program are being compromised, a verbal warning will be given. After two verbal warnings, a written warning will follow. If a violation occurs, a written warning will be given and the intern will be placed on thirty day probation. If there is no measurable change within fifteen days, plans for dismissal will be initiated. If for any reason the warnings have not resulted in measurable change, the intern will be dismissed from the program and released from any further obligations to the program. If an intern is dismissed after 5 weeks there will be no refund. Should the unfortunate occasion arise in which the moral character of an intern should come into question or their attitude become disrespectful, dishonest, or disloyal, the intern will be dismissed from the program immediately. Planning and securing the financial resources needed is the initiation of your leadership training. The apostle Paul believed you should work to support yourself. Many time he solicited funds for support from believers in the Church; however, he also developed the skill of tent making to provide his own way.
