Our Mission Protecting children, strengthening families, and empowering our communities through innovative, life-enhancing services. At Robins Nest we offer more than treatments, we offer transformations.

Transforming the Lives We Touch Together Dear Friends and Family, On behalf of the Board of Directors and the many talented staff and volunteers who make up our Robins Nest family, we would like to thank you for your commitment and partnership in advancing our mission of protecting children, strengthening families, and empowering the communities in which they live. Together we are truly transforming the lives we touch, and we are humbled and grateful for your continuous dedication to making lives across southern New Jersey happier and healthier was another milestone year for Robins Nest as we introduced several new and innovative programs and services to South Jersey families, opened new locations across the region, and grew our professional family by 45 new positions. Collectively, this growth enabled us to provide life-saving and enhancing services to 11,175 South Jersey children and families. We are proud of the opportunities that this growth has given us to transform the lives of so many in our community. In strengthening the lives of those we touch today, we are enhancing and improving our communities for many years to come. The enduring impact of our programs can be measured across generations, as we consistently put an emphasis on solving problems now to create bright futures. Your support of our programs and services makes all the difference to our children and families. Together, we will continue to transform lives each and every day. Sincerely, Dr. Anthony DiFabio President and CEO Robert B. Nolan Board Chairman 2

Our Programs and Services We are very proud of the wide array of services that our experienced workers, therapists and clinicians are providing every day and our commitment to ensuring that our children and families receive the best and most appropriate care. We aim to build people up and allow them to become self-sufficient and independent which is the ultimate goal across all of our programs. For families that are at risk of having their child removed from their home, or if the child has already been removed from the home, staff in our Child Permanency Programs step in and work to strengthen the family relationships and functioning. Families involved in our foster, kinship, and adoption programs receive support through the sometimes stressful transition towards permanency. Our Prevention and Parent Education Programs guide new, at-risk parents so they will raise healthy babies and ultimately, become a self-sufficient, successful family. Staff work with parents to enhance their parenting skills and offer them community resources to ensure that their children are receiving the necessary care to grow and develop. Our Programs for Adolescents provide valuable life skills training, mentoring, accountability, and encouragement to teens working to turn their life around as they transition into adulthood. This difficult time in life is made better as teens learn to form strong relationships and become independent. For teens and young adults who can t live at home, we provide safe, secure Group Homes and Residential Programs where they set and achieve goals, helping them to become independent. We provide outstanding Counseling Services, on an individual or group basis, to community members across southern New Jersey. Our licensed counselors will develop a plan to address any issues a family or individual may be facing in a timely and positive manner. Our Crisis Response Program responds within an hour to help stabilize critical situations before they escalate. Once that has been accomplished, staff provide ongoing support to enhance communication and allow the family to once again form a cohesive unit. Our Family Success Centers are communitybased, family-centered neighborhood gathering places where community residents go for family support, interactive workshops, activities, and groups. 6 96 % service. of youth who receive Mobile Response services remain at home following close of Transforming the Lives We Touch We would not be able to offer our wide variety of programs and services without the support of the community. In turn, we constantly strive to find ways to serve the community directly through accessible programs that provide necessary resources and services to individuals in need. Being a teenager is certainly not easy, but dealing with mental health issues, poor self-esteem, and life changes make this point in life even harder for many youth in our communities. Because of your support, we are able to provide unique programs like our Children s Mobile Response and Stabilization Services to children and adolescents that are having difficulty getting over some of life s speed bumps. Our Mobile Response program provides immediate crisis outreach 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to children and families experiencing escalating emotional or behavioral health issues. Gina experienced a rough transition into her freshman year of high school, and her parents and younger brother noticed that she just wasn t herself anymore. When she began threatening self-harm, her parents saw that this wasn t an issue that could be ignored, and that Gina needed immediate help. Her mom called our Mobile Response number, and our staff arrived within the hour to diffuse the situation and get Gina the help she needed. The Mobile Response staff was able to work with Gina and her family to get through the problems she was facing, and recommended some supports and resources for her to look into to deal with making her transition into high school easier. Gina took the advice of her Mobile Response worker and started participating in a weekly support group at her school that helps youth engage and talk about their difficulties with school and self-image in a relaxed, friendly setting. It is comforting to know that help really is just a phone call away. Because of the help I received, I was able to spend the rest of my freshman year making new friends and improving both my grades and my selfesteem. I don t know what I would have done without the support that Robins Nest provided me and my family over the past few months. 5

117 families received PCIT sessions in Transforming the Lives We Touch Our Counseling Services provide behavioral health and wellness services to individuals across our communities. These easily accessible programs offer help to a variety of populations from children experiencing behavioral issues at school, to adolescents impacted by trauma, to adults suffering with depression and anxiety. Each of our three centers offers an array of evidenced based counseling techniques that have proven, successful results. Sara s young son, Daniel, was having frequent tantrums both at home and in school, and Sara noticed that the problem was only getting worse as her son prepared to enter second grade. She visited her son s school over the summer, and the elementary school guidance counselor recommended Robins Nest Counseling Services, saying that many of the school s students had achieved success after receiving services. Sara was able to secure an appointment, and soon she and Daniel began attending our Parent-Child Interactive Therapy together. PCIT is a behavior-based, family-oriented therapy designed to help improve the parent-child relationship through interaction. PCIT helps parents develop effective parenting techniques and stronger familial relationships, while reducing behavior issues in young children. Each week, they met with their therapist, who guided Sara through interacting with her son, and provided her with techniques to work through Daniel s negative behavior. Sara was able to effectively learn new skills that helped her become better able to provide a caring and nurturing environment for Daniel, so that he would begin to respond with more positive behavior patterns both at school and at home. Daniel s grades and behavior began to improve, and Sara learned how to reward his positive behavior. Now, the two enjoy trips to the movies and to the park as a reward for good behavior throughout the week. I have lived in South Jersey my entire life, and I never knew that I could receive these types of services right around the corner. The transformation I saw in Daniel is indescribable. I never imagined that something so close to home could change my life for the better. I can t thank the Robins Nest staff enough for their dedication to bringing out the best in my son. 8 97 % of children remained stable in placement after being with their adoptive family for 3 months. Transforming the Lives We Touch Making the transition from fostering a child to permanently adding a new family member is often stressful and emotional for adoptive parents. Because of you, we can offer programs like our Post Adoption Counseling Services (PACS), which provide adoptive parents with caring support and therapy to help them get through the process of achieving stability. We are truly helping families become whole, cohesive units full of love thanks to your generosity. Tyler and Julie wanted nothing more than to become parents, but struggled with infertility throughout their first few years of marriage. The couple sat down and talked about their options, and decided to look into the fostering to adopt process. Tyler and Julie both realized that there were probably many children right in their neighborhood looking for their forever home, and with that in mind, began moving towards the process of fostering a child. They began attending the necessary meetings to learn more about becoming foster parents, and learned about the responsibilities that this new role would entail. They went through all of the necessary steps, and a few months later, 6-month-old Gavin came into their lives. Gavin came from a situation of neglect, and though he was so young, had experienced significant trauma within his birth family. Tyler and Julie did not have much knowledge on how to properly raise an infant, outside of what they learned in their informational meetings. Upon looking into resources on how to alleviate this difficult transition, Julie found Robins Nest. Tyler and Julie began receiving weekly in-home visits from their new and supportive Robins Nest PACS therapist, and she walked them through the steps of the adoption process, as well as provided them much needed guidance on how to properly care for Gavin. Over the course of the next six months, Tyler and Julie learned how to care for Gavin s basic needs, and formed a strong support system consisting of friends and family members who could help them when things got tough. Ultimately, they adopted Gavin and made him a permanent part of their family. To this day, Tyler and Julie still keep in touch with their therapist, and even invited her to attend Gavin s 2nd birthday party. My experience working with Robins Nest was beyond anything I could have ever expected. The adoption process was extremely difficult on our entire family, and without our therapist, I don t know how we would have managed. I am so thankful to Robins Nest for allowing my husband and I to give our son the loving forever home that he deserves. 7

of Life Link Homes residents with educational goals are working towards a high school diploma, GED, or post- 98 % secondary education. Transforming the Lives We Touch For youth that are aging out of the foster care system or are at risk of becoming homeless, our Life Link Homes program provides permanent supportive housing and linkage to resources that allow youth to successfully and independently transition into adulthood. Upon turning 18 years old, like many teens in foster care, Will aged out of the system and was without a place to live. He was able to locate a job on his own and found a place to stay with a friend from high school, but Will knew this couldn t be a permanent situation, as he eventually wanted to live independently and obtain a formal education. He got in touch with his former caseworker, and she was able to get him in contact with our Life Link Homes program. Will was accepted into the program and moved into one of our apartments. Will settled into his new home, and began meeting weekly with the Independent Living Coordinator to establish and accomplish his goals. Will discussed his desire to enroll in the local community college s nursing program, reconnect with his family, and ultimately live on his own. He began meeting with the Employment Specialist to develop a resume and work on job readiness skills, and the Life Link Homes therapist to process the situation with his family. After just a few months, Will had obtained a new part-time job that paid significantly more than his last position, and was practicing effective coping skills to overcome the stress and anxiety that had previously caused a rift between he and his parents and siblings. Now Will is in his final weeks at Life Link Homes and will soon move into his own apartment close to his family, so they can continue having dinners and taking trips together. Coming out of foster care at 18 left me feeling lost and hopeless about my future. The staff at Life Link Homes provided me with the skills and resources I needed to develop into an independent and responsible adult. I am getting ready to head into my second year of school, and now I see my family weekly. Neither of these things would have been possible without the support I ve received here.
