1 WE ENCOURAGE ANYONE WHO IS LOOKING TO HAVE A NAMED ROLE IN THE PRODUCTION TO ATTEND, INCLUDING ADULTS! SHREK, The Musical is an extremely character-driven show. We have decided to have an Audition Workshop because in order to properly cast the show, we need to see people who are willing to take risks and really embody a character during their audition. During the workshop you ll be working with the whole Creative Team on material from the show and you ll get a chance to see what we are looking for with each character. You will also learn some tips to really make yourself stand out during auditions. This year we will not have a traditional Children s Choir as we have had in past years. We plan to add a few more Fairytale Creatures, and will be flexible with ages for a lot of those creatures, but roles will be limited. If you are planning to audition for SHREK, FIONA, DONKEY, LORD FARQUAAD or any fairytale character, we recommend attending the Adult Workshop (Group C) to spend time working on songs and scenes from the show with the Directors before auditions. Group C will not have any movement/dance section during the Workshop but will focus more on characterization and musicality for the role you re interested in. Prior to the workshop and auditions, we encourage everyone to watch the Original Broadway Cast perform SHREK on stage! It is available on NETFLIX or you can rent/purchase the show on itunes or anywhere online. We hope to see you there! Director Artistic Director YOU DO NOT NEED TO ATTEND THE WORKSHOP TO BE CAST IN THE SHOW, AND ATTENDING THE WORKSHOP DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU A ROLE IN THE SHOW! COST: $20 for 1 person, $35 for 2 people, $50 for 3 and $12 per additional person if more than 3 attending. WHERE: Saint Timothy s Church, 871 East Boundary Street, Perrysburg, OH WHEN: The workshop is split into three groups by age. 1. 9:00 am 10:45 am: Group A Ages :30 am 2:00 pm: Group B Ages :15 pm 5:00 pm: Group C Ages **Adults Encouraged to Attend! Each group will cycle through Acting and Music and then join together for a Dance Section. WHAT TO BRING: There will be no time to change before the dance section, so please wear one outfit that you will keep on the entire workshop. This workshop is for YOU; to prepare you for auditions and for you gain insight into the process and the director s needs. So, please do not worry about dressing your best or dressing for the part. DANCE: Everyone will learn a short combination from Freak Flag. MUSIC: Everyone will learn a musical line from Story of my Life (found in this packet). This selection will be the song you will be required to sing at auditions if you are between the ages of 7 10, and will be optional to sing for ages ACTING: Everyone will work on the monologues found in this packet. Boys and Girls each have 2 options to choose from. There is no need to memorize the monologue ahead of time, but please have a good understanding of the dialogue. We will work on characterization through voice, physicality, energy and risk-taking. GROUP C 2:15 PM 5:00 PM: GROUP C AGES *ADULTS ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND! Section 1: 2:15pm 3:00 pm Characters: Pinocchio & Dragon. Section 2: 3:00pm 3:45pm Characters: Lord Farquaad, Gingy Section 3: 3:45pm 5:00pm Characters: Shrek, Adult Princess Fiona, Donkey Each section will work on material based on their character from the show. You ll have the opportunity to work on characterization in scene work as well as music. There is no dance/movement segment in Group C. Please take the time to learn the scene and song for the character, or characters, you intend to audition for by downloading the Group C Material packet. We won t have time to spend teaching the material, rather embellish what you prepare. If you would like to be considered for multiple roles within Group C you re welcome to attend any or all of the sections at no additional cost. There are other featured Fairytale Characters and Guards in the production that have smaller solos and speaking lines, however we will not be focusing on those characters for this workshop. You can see a breakdown of these roles on the previous page. PLEASE DOWNLOAD AND PRINT OUT YOUR MATERIAL FOR GROUP C THE MORE PREPARED YOU ARE WITH THE MATERIAL, THE BETTER EXPERIENCE YOU LL HAVE DURING THE WORKSHOP. MEMORIZATION IS NOT NECESSARY. 5 GIRLS CHOOSE OPTION #1 OR OPTION #2 OPTION #1 I am so sick of being called the wicked queen! I am not wicked- I m obsessive. There s a big difference. All I ever wanted was to be the fairest in the land. Do you have any idea what it s like to constantly be around someone you know looks better than you? It s terrible! Besides, I was doing a favor for all of humankind. That girl is just too happy for her own good! All I m saying is that it wasn t completely my fault, but I m still destined to go down in fairy tale history as the Wicked Queen. OPTION #2 Last night I had the strangest dream, my fairy godmother sprinkled happy dust over Anastasia and Drizella, and they were so nice to me! I know that was only a dream, but it was so nice that I think I ll try to pretend that it really happened. Whenever they are mean to me, I ll pretend they actually said something sweet and kind. Sure, I ll wash you dresses, Drizella I would love to polish your shoes, Anastasia. Right away dear sisters, thank you! (giggles) did you see their faces! They must think I ve gone mad! BOYS CHOOSE OPTION #3 OR OPTION #4 OPTION #3 Ahhh, I love this crummy weather! Oh, yes, isn t just heaven when it s all gloomy and dreary like this. Yep, this weather is my cup of mud. Spring and warmer days? Forget it feather face! Now I ve done it! I ve made you mad! There s nothing better than an angry face in a beautifully dreary place! Guess you think I should leave, huh? Oh yeah, YOU should scram! (waits for person to leave) well if you re not leaving, I am! Have a perfectly rotten day! OPTION #4 You say the king should have the highest respect in his kingdom? I agree. I am the king, and I shall have your respect! A king s head should be the highest in his kingdom- so sit down already! I can t stand forever. Now I will tell you why I want to be respected. Not because I was born with royal blood, or that I own the most land, or have the most political powerno! Justice! Above all justice! 5
