6 MBA Overview The MBA program is designed to prepare students for leadership positions in the management of business enterprises, government agencies, healthcare organizations, and not-for-profit organizations. Distinguishing characteristics of the program are its emphasis on executive skills development, its general management orientation, its integration of skills and values, and its explicit attempt to link theory and practice. All of this is experienced with an underlying sensitivity to the Christian humanist history and traditions of the university. The intent of the program is to provide students with the foundations for socially useful, and professionally rewarding, careers in a globalized and dynamic world. The training of technical specialists is not our primary goal; the development of corporate and community leaders is. 9 Program of Study 4 Building Blocks In addition to developing an understanding of the sophisticated nature and inter-relationship among the basic functional areas of business, the MBA program emphasizes executive skills development in the following primary areas: > Leadership > Communications > Decision-making > Self-awareness > Analysis and Synthesis > Critical Thinking The program utilizes a holistic and strategic approach in dealing with organizational problems. Thus, functional areas of business are considered in the context of the organizational whole, while maintaining a global perspective, and providing a multi-stakeholder, rather than a single-interest, approach. Furthermore, a strategic, long-run perspective is stressed rather than a short-run, tactical view. A balance between cognitive and affective learning is also sought. The entire program gives primacy to matters of ethics and values, as well as the rights and responsibilities of business organizations.
