3 1 Product Description By means of the EPM110 an easy to handle display device for EnOcean based radio telegrams is available. All relevant information of the telegrams are output in the four line display. Additionally, the receiving quality is evaluated. Besides the display all telegrams received are recorded on a SD card. The files are stored as text files and can be easily read into a PC and processed (e.g. with Microsoft Excel). Furthermore, the device has an Ethernet interface as well as a serial interface. The output of telegrams received can be made via both interfaces. Display and recording of the telegrams on a PC can be easily realized via a corresponding programme (Syslog or terminal programmes). The integrated clock/calender function provides the telegrams with a time stamp, so that an afterwards allocation and evaluation is facilitated. The EPM110 can be operated by means of the integrated rechargeable battery as wel as by a power supply included in delivery. In order to show the receipt of a telegram acoustically as well, the device is equipped with corresponding signal generators. By means of the external antenna (included in delivery) the optimal receiving position can be determined. produktblatt_epm110_eng 2009 Page 3 of 17

4 2 Introduction 2.1 Delivery includes: Transport box Manual EPM110 Power supply External antenna Information on the manual: The first chapter provides information about how to put the EPM110 into operation and how to make first measurements. In the following chapters the EPM110 and its options are described in detail. 2.2 Overview The EPM110 disposes of a keyboard and a four line display with activable illumination. Above the display the connection for the antenna can be found. Put the antenna plug into the socket and lock the plug by turning the clamping nut. produktblatt_epm110_eng 2009 Page 4 of 17

5 The blue cover at the bottom of the EPM110 can be removed. Therefore, the push buttons on the left and right side of the device shall be pushed. Keep the push buttons pressed with one hand and remove the cover with the other hand. Below the cover the connectors for the power supply, the serial interface, the Ethernet interface and the SD card are found. Connect solely the power supply (included in delivery) with the connector socket. Further information on the individual interfaces can be found in the following chapters. 2.3 Put the EPM110 into Operation Recharge Battery (accumulator) It is possible to operate the EPM110 by means of the delivered power supply or an integrated rechargeable battery. The accumulator is charged as soon as the power supply is connected with the EPM110. During this process, the device will become fully functionally already. For an accumulator based operation the rechargable battery must be charged. The charging process takes about 3 to 4 hours. Push the buttons at the left and right end at the bottom. Keep the push buttons pressed and remove the blue cover. Connect the power supply with the voltage jack. Now, the device is ready for operation. As long as the green LED next to the key Bat shines, the accumulator is charged. If the LED is off, the battery is charged and the power supply unit can be disconnected from the EPM110. Depending on the application, it might be useful to operate the EPM110 via the power supply. Due to the different connection options, the power consumption and thus the running time of the accumulator might be differing a lot and lasts from 2 to 7 hours. The shortest running time of the rechargeable battery applies, if the Ethernet interface and the background illumination are activated during an accumulator based operation. In order to lock the device, unplug it from the power supply and push the cover smoothly to the device until it clicks into place. Connect Antenna Plug the connector of the antenna (included in delivery) in the corresponding jack above the display and lock the connection by tightening the clamping nut on the connector. 2.4 Quick Guide By means of the following points, the device can be easily put into operation and first measurements can be effected. To make use of all functions, this manual shall be completely read. 2.5 Turn On/Off The EPM110 is turned on/off via the green key. Turn on: Keep the green button pushed until a message is displayed or a melody sounds. Turn off: Keep the green button pushed until the display is blank. produktblatt_epm110_eng 2009 Page 5 of 17

6 2.6 First Measurement After having turned on the EPM110, it shows all telegrams received. The receipt of a telegram is signalized by a sound. By means of the Hold key the receipt is stopped and the telegram can be viewed for a longer period of time. Otherwise, the next telegram received overwrites the display. By pushing the Hold button again, the receipt of new telegrams is released again. 7 3 General Points The EPM110 is designed for receiving EnOcean based radio telegrams. The EPM110 displays the telegrams and writes them into a file on the SD card in the device. The last three telegrams can be shown in the display. Additionally, the EPM110 can be configured to send telegrams via Ethernet to an IP address. The configuration is made via a file on the SD card. 3.1 System Prerequisites For changing the configuration or for processing the telegrams received, a PC with a card reader for SD cards is necessary. 3.2 Display The display shows the data included in the telegram. Additionally, an information about the quality of the receipt and the status of the EPM110 is indicated. The contrast of the display can be adjusted. The keys are described in the following chapters. A pushed button is signalized by a piep sound Turn on/off Key The EPM110 is turned on/off via the green key. In order to avoid an inadvertently turning on or off, the key must be pressed for approx. 5 seconds. Turn on: Keep the green key pressed until a message is displayed or a melody sounds. 8 3.3.2 Cursor Keys By means of the arrow keys, different actions can be executed. The functions of the keys are described in the corresponding applications Hold Key The EPM110 displays each telegram received immediately. The last three telegrams are stored in the memory of the EPM110 processor. In order to view the last three telegrams, the Hold key must be pressed. By means of the cursor keys left arrow and right arrow these three telegrams can be browsed. If the Hold key is pressed, the displays shows a H and the LED besides the Hold key shines. By means of the numbers 1/3 to 3/3 the telegram currently displayed is indicated. As long as the EPM110 is in the Hold mode, arriving telegrams are not displayed but nevertheless they are written to the SD card and are output via the interfaces (provided they are configured) Bat Key The Bat key is a button without function. Only the LED signalizes the charging process or shows that the performance of the accumulator is doing down. Green LED on: Battery is recharged Green LED off: Battery is charged Red LED on: Performance of accumulator is running low. Please connect power supply Display Illumination Via this key, the display illumination can be switched on/off. Please note that the illuminated display is increasing the power consumption and reducing the working time of the battery Enter Key When actuating the Enter key the menu for adjusting of the contratst, time and calendar is called. Additionally, there is a menu About in which you find information about the software status of the EPM110. By means of the Cancel button, the menu is left. produktblatt_epm110_eng 2009 Page 8 of 17

9 3.3.7 View Key The EPM110 can interpret some user data of the telegram and can display them as text. By means of the View key you can toggle between these display modes. If the View mode is activated, the green LED next to the button is shining. The following data are interpreted: Data value Text 08 ReedOpen 09 ReedClsd Cancel Key The Cancel key is designed for leaving the menu and its sub menus Filter Key Via the Filter key, a filter can be laid via the telegram currently displayed. If the filter is activated, only telegrams with this ID are displayed. If the EPM110 is in the filter mode, telegrams received with a different ID are not displayed but they are written on the SD card nevertheless and are output via the interfaces (provided they are configured). 3.4 Setting of Calendar and Time The EPM110 has an integrated time and calendar function. Via a buffer battery it is prevented that the settings get lost if the battery is empty. For setting time and calendar, please proceed as follows: Push the button Enter to have the configuration menu displayed. By means of the cursor keys the arrow next to the menu points can be moved. Move the arrow before the entry Date / Time By pushing the button Enter again, the sub points can be entered by the arrow. By means of the arrows right and left, a value is chosen which flashes afterwards. By the arrow upward and downwards the selected value can be changed. Therefore, the value is increased or reduced by the corresponding arrow. By means of the Enter key the adjustments are closed. Afterwards the button Cancel shall be pushed to return to the normal display. Please note the following: The time displayed is the time at which the last telegram was received. If you changed the time, the modified time is only displayed upon receipt of the next telegram. produktblatt_epm110_eng 2009 Page 9 of 17

10 Adjustment of Display Contrast Push the Enter button to have the configuration menu displayed By means of the cursor keys the arrow can be moved next to the menu button. Move the arrow before the entry Contrast. By pushing the button Enter again, the arrow brings you to the selected menu point. By means of the arrows right and left you can increase or reduce the contrast. By Enter the settings are closed. Afterwards the button Cancel is actuated to return to the standard display. 3.5 Inquiring about Software Version Push the button Enter to have the configuration menu displayed.. By means of the cursor keys, the arrow can be moved next to the menu point. Move the arrow before the entry About. By repeated pushing of the Enter button, you will get into the requested menu point by means of the cursor key. Here information on your EPM110 are shown. Please keep this information available in case of support queries. By means of Enter the settings are closed. 11 4 The Interfaces Data Exchange 4.1 SD Cad As a mass storage, the EPM110 disposes of a SD card. The card is designed for the configuration of a device as well as a storage for the data received. It is located under the blue cover. SD Card The following files are contained on the card: Config.ini SENSOR.txt Configuration file Sensor data received In order to process the files, the SD card must be removed from the EPM110 and must be connected to the computer by means of card reader. Both files can be processed by a common text editor Remove SD Card Switch off the EPM110. Push the push button on the left and right side. Keep the buttons pressed with one hand and remove the cover with the other hand. Pull out the SD card from the card slot. Attention: The EPM110 does not work without the SD card! Put the SD Card in The SD card is put in with the face outside, i.e. facing away from the board. Afterwards, press the blue card smoothly on the enclosure until it clicks into place. produktblatt_epm110_eng 2009 Page 11 of 17

12 4.1.3 config.ini Configuration of the OceanView 100 via SD Card For a clear configuration of the EPM110 most of the adjustments are made via a text file on the SD card. The file config.ini can be opened and processed by a text editor. Therefore, the SD card is removed and the file config.ini is read into a PC via a card reader. Thus, you have the option to store different configurations on your PC. The SD card is located under the blue cover. Switch off the EPM110. Push the button on the left and right hand side. Keep the push buttons pressed with one hand and remove the cover with the other hand. Remove the SD card and insert the same into a card reader. By means of a text editor you can open the file config.ini on the SD card. For example, the file could contain the following: IsTcm=0 IgTgChk=0 IsRssiMode=0 BeepRaw=0 BeepSer=0 BeepKey=1 LogTg=1 LogDbg=0 UseSysLog=1 DbgLv=7 MacAddr=00:07:A7:00:00:01 DHCP=0 UseNet=1 IpAddr= GwAddr= NetMask= DnsAddr= AdminName=unused AdminPw=unused Addr=unused SysLogIp= On the following pages the possible entries are explained. Please note, that the EPM110 does not work without the SD card. The SD card is put in face down to the board. The cover is smoothly pressed on the enclosure until it clicks in place. 13 Entry / Default Possible Values Notice IsTcm=0 IsTcm=0: EPM110 with EnOcean RCM module IsTcm=1: EPM110 with EnOcean TCM module At the moment, the EPM110 is only supplied with the RCM module. The value shall not be changed at all. IgTgChk=0 IgTgChk=0: Telegrams including a wrong checksum are ignored. IgTgChk=1: The checksum is not verified. Thus, silly displays are possible. It is recommended to keep the settings. IsRssiMode=0 IsRssiMode=0: At the moment the value is always 0. For future applications. BeepRaw=0 BeepRaw=0: A signal sounds if RAW data are received. BeepRaw=1:A signal sounds, if RAW data are received. It is recommended to keep the settings. BeepSer=0 BeepSer=0: No signal sounds, if a telegram is received. BeepSer=1: A signal sounds, if a telegram is received. If many telegrams are received, it might be advisable, to turn off the signal. LogTg=1 LogTg=0: No telegram data are written on the SD card. LogTg=1: Received telegram data are written on the SD card. It is recommended to keep the settings. LogDbg=0 LogDbg=0: At the moment the value is always 0. For future applications. UseSysLog=0 UseSysLog=0: No SysLog messages are sent. UseSysLog=1:The EPM110 transmits messages via UDP to the IP addresses mentioned in the field "SysLogIp". SysLogIp= SysLogIp=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: Here the IPaddress is indicated to which the message shall be sent. A corresponding programme must run on the receiving PC (e.g. Kiwi Syslog Daemon, which can be downloaded in the web for free). DbgLv=6 DbgLv=6 or 7: 6: Info Level, telegram data, information, warnings and errors are output. Indicates which information should be output on the serial interface and via Syslog. 7 Debug Level, additionally to Level 6 also Debug information for locating errors and failures in the hard and software are output. MacAddr=00:04:A3:00:00:01 MacAddr=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Clear address, by which each EPM110 can be identified in the net. The address is differing for each device and may not be changed. The address is only allowed to exist for one time worldwide per hardware and is provided by the IEEE Standards Association. DHCP=0 DHCP=0: At the moment the value is always 0. DHCP is not yet supported. For future applications. produktblatt_epm110_eng 2009 Page 13 of 17

14 UseNet=0 UseNet=0: The Ethernet interface is deactivated. UseNet=1: The Ethernet interface is activated. By UseNet the Ethernet interface is switched on/off. Please note, that the power consumption for the Ethernet interface is quite high. We recommend to deactivate the Ethernet interface when working in the accumulator mode. IpAddr= GwAddr= NetMask= DnsAddr= Here the network settings for the EPM110 are determined. AdminName=unused AdminPw=unused Addr=unused This setting is not yet used and should not be changed. For future applications SENSOR.TXT Data Transmission via SD Card All telegrams receivd can be stored on the SD card in the file SENSOR.TXT and can be transmitted to a PC and processed, accordingly. The file SENSOR.TXT is generated by the EPM110, unless it is existing already. In order to have the data written into the file SENSOR.TXT, the following entry must be made in the Config.ini : LogTg=1 LogTg=0: No telegram data are written on the SD card. LogTg=1:Telegram data received are written on the SD card. In order to distinguish the different measurements better, the file can be deleted from the SD card after having copied the same to a PC. When switching on the EPM110 next time, the file is generated as a blank file. Otherwise, the new data received are added to the existing data. produktblatt_epm110_eng 2009 Page 14 of 17

15 The SD card is located under the blue cover. Switch off the EPM110. Push the button on the left and right hand side. Keep the push buttons pressed with one hand and remove the cover with the other hand. SD card Remove the SD card and insert the same into a card reader. By means of a text editor you can open the file SENSOR.TXT. For example, the file could contain the following: Epoch[decimal] RSSI[decimal] Checksum[0=ok,1=not ok] Type[hex] Org[hex] ID[hex] Data[hex] Status[hex] b b8e5 c b b8e5 d b b8e5 c b b8e5 d The data are separated via TAB and can be easily processed in Word or Excel Reading of File SENSOR.TXT in EXCEL 2003 For reading the file in Excel 2003 please proceed as follows: 1. Enter the menu line and go to Open File to call the open dialog. 2. In the open dialog, please open the file, in which you stored the sensor text files. 3.In the lower part of the open dialog you have to change the data type to All Files to have the sensor text files be displayed. 4. Via a double click to the file, Excel tries to open the file. Excel recognizes that this is a table and shows the dialog Text converting assistant step 1 to 3. Here a point must be existing before the option separated. Otherwise, the point can be set by means of a left hand click right before separated. Click to continue. 5. Now Excel shows the dialog "Text converting assistant step 2 to 3". Here a hook must be set right before the tab stop in the field separator. In the lower part of the dialog a preview of the files is displayed. Click to continue. 6. In the following window Text converting assistant step 3 to 3 the format of each column can be determined. First, Excel assumes Standard for all columns. Mostly, this works fine. For the column ID[hex] we recommend to change "Standard" into "Text". Thus, the column is selected by a click. Afterwards, a point is set in this dialog right before Text by means of a lefthand click. Now the column ID[hex] should show "Text". 7. By means of a click to Complete the table is displayed in Excel. Now the data are available in Excel. In order to sort the files according to IDs, the first line with the heading shall be marked by a left hand click to the edge of the first line. Select Auto Filter in the menu screen under Files > Filter. The first line receives a small arrow in each column now. By means of a left hand click to the arrow you receive a list with contents included in this column. By selecting a content, only the lines including this content are shown. 16 4.2 Ethernet Interface In order to send telegrams received via the network, the EPM110 is equipped with a standard network connector RJ45. The connector can be found under the blue cover and has two LEDs. Green LED Orange LED A connection to the network is existing. Data are transmitted. Push both buttons on the left and right side on the device. Keep the buttons pressed by one hand and remove the cover with your other hand. Ethernet interface The EPM110 transmits received telegrams to a default network address. The information are output in the Syslog Format and can be displayed by a corresponding programme. For example, the Freeware Programme Kiwi Syslog Daemon is suitable. For this function, the following properites in the Config.ini are important: UseNet=0 UseNet=0: The Ethernet interface is deactivated. UseNet=1: The Ethernet interface is activated. By UseNet the Ethernet interface is switched on and off. Please note: The power consumption of the Ethernet interface is quite high. Thus, we recommend to deactivate the Ethernet interface when working in the accumulator mode UseSysLog=0 UseSysLog=0: No SysLog messages are sent. UseSysLog=1: The EPM110 transmits messages via UDP to the defined IP addresses in the "SysLogIp"range. SysLogIp= SysLogIp=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: Here the IP address to which the message should be sent is indicated. On the receiving PC a corresponding programme must be installed, e.g. Kiwi Syslog Daemon. DbgLv=6 DbgLv=6 or 7: 6: Info Level, telegram data, information, maintenance and errors are output. Indicates, which information shall be output on the serial interface and via Syslog. 7 Debug Level, additionally to Level 6 Debug information for finding errors in the hard and software are output, as well. IpAddr= GwAddr= Here the network settings for the EPM110 are determined. NetMask= DnsAddr= produktblatt_epm110_eng 2009 Page 16 of 17

17 4.3 Serial Interface Received telegrams can also be forwarded to a PC via a serial interface. Thus, a wire with a level converter is necessary. The EPM110 operates with 3,3 volt, common PCs with 5 volt, however. The adaption is made via the level converter. The serial interface is located under the blue cover. Switch off the EPM110. Push the button on the left and right hand side. Keep the push buttons pressed with one hand and remove the cover with the other hand Serial interface The properties for data transmission are: Speed Bits per second, data bits: 8, parity: non, stopp bits 1 For receipt and display of the data a simple terminal programme, e.g. Hyperterm by Windows, is enough. produktblatt_epm110_eng 2009 Page 17 of 17
