4 3. Installation Guide 3.1 Microsoft.NET Framework Setup Ensure Microsoft.NET framework 3.5 is installed. If not, setup files can be found on the Net-Manager CD in the following location: CD-Drive:\Software\DOT NET Install Microsoft SQL Express The EpiSensor Net-Manager application uses a Microsoft SQL Server as a repository for data. Either the full SQL Server can be installed or the Express edition. The CD includes the setup files for the Express edition; Microsoft SQL Express setup files can be found in the following location on the CD: CD-Drive:\Software\SQL Express A Number of questions and options are available during installation and appear on various screens during the process. When requested; Enter your Name, Company Name and sa Password Take note of this password Select Mixed Authentication Mode Select Not Sending any Error Reports or feature usage to Microsoft 4

3.3 Install SQL Server Management Studio Express SQL Server Management Studio Express is a tool which allows the user to manage SQL Servers and Databases.

5 3.3 Install SQL Server Management Studio Express SQL Server Management Studio Express is a tool which allows the user to manage SQL Servers and Databases. It presents the Server-Database-Objects hierarchy as a treeview which allows the user to manipulate data and data objects associated with the database. This tool is required later to attach the EpiSensor database to the SQLEXPRESS Server running on the computer. Setup files can be found in the following location: CD-Drive:\Software\SQL Express 3.4 Install the USB drivers USB Drivers are required for the Net-Gate USB Pod on the connected PC. These drivers create a Virtual COM port on the computer which exists only while the USB device is connected. To Install the USB drivers; Run the CP210x_VCP_Win2K_XP_S2K3.exe installation program. It can be found in the following location on the Net-Manager CD: CD-Drive:\Drivers The CP210x_VCP_Win2K_XP_S2K3.exe extracts the install sets. These are then used to install the drivers to a selected location. Note that the System Scan performed at the end of the installation can take a few minutes so please be patient. 3.5 Take note of Net-Gate USB COM Port Run the windows Computer Management application which can be found in the following location: Start Control Panel Administrative Tools Computer Management Expand the Ports (COM & LPT) option from the Device Manager as shown in the screen below. Take note of the COM Port Number assigned to the CP210x USB to UART Bridge Controller device. In the example, it is COM3. 5

7 3.6 Configure SQL Server SQL Server Configuration Manager Start the SQL Server Configuration Manager, no login is required. This can be found from the Windows Start menu; Start Programs Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Configuration Tools From the tree-view on the left, select SQL Server 2005 Services. Ensure that both the SQL Server and the SQL Server Browser are running. If they are not, start them. Check the Start Mode column and ensure the services are configured as Automatic. If they are not, right click on the service name, click Properties and change the mode to Automatic 7

8 Next, select the Protocols for SQLEXPRESS from the treeview, the following screen should be displayed. 8

Ensure that Named Pipes and TCP/IP are both enabled for the server. 3.6.2 SQL Management Studio Express Start SQL Server Management Studio Express.

9 Ensure that Named Pipes and TCP/IP are both enabled for the server SQL Management Studio Express Start SQL Server Management Studio Express. This can be found from the Windows Start menu at; Start Programs Microsoft SQL Server 2005 You will be asked to enter your login information. Select either Windows or SQL Server Authentication. If you choose SQL Server Authentication you must enter sa as the login name and the password from section

10 3.7 Attach Database Files Copy the database files from the CD to the SQL Server data folder. The Episensor Database files are located in; CD-Drive:\Database Copy both the MDF and LDF files to the SQL Server data folder located in; C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data Now using the SQL Server Management Studio Express, attach the files; Right click the Database tree view item 10

11 Select Attach, the following Window will be displayed 11

12 On this window, click the Add button. A window will display the Database files in the default database directory. Select the EpiSensor file and click OK. This returns to the Attach Database window 12

13 Now click OK to attach the database. 3.8 Extract EpiSensor Net-Manager Application Extract the contents of EpiSensor_Net-Manager.zip to C:\Program Files\EpiSensor\Net- Manager\ on your PC, or any other suitable location. This archive can be found in the following location on the Net-Manager CD: CD-Drive:\Software\EpiSensor Net-Manager\ 13

This is located in the files EpiSensorZigbee.exe.config.

14 3.9 Configure the Application The only configuration required in the application is the COM port setting. This is located in the files EpiSensorZigbee.exe.config. Open this file with Notepad and ensure the correct COM port is defined as shown here; 14

15 Save the file and close Notepad Start the EpiSensor Net-Manager Application Start the application by clicking the EpiSensor Net-Manager Application by double clicking the EpiSensorZigbee.exe file. You can create a shortcut to this application if required Login A Login window is displayed; 15

16 Enter the details for the connection to the database as shown above. Remember to enter the correct sa password. The EpiSensor Net-Manager application will then start. Please see the document entitled EpiSensor Net-Manager Quick Start User Guide for further details. 16
