5 T1.0 Units of Measurement All units of measure in this document for dimensions and weight unless otherwise stated are in millimetres (mm) and kilograms (kg). Conversion calculations are the responsibility of the team. T2.0 Definitions The Vehicle shall be designed and manufactured according to these regulations for the purpose of participating on the Land Rover 4x4 in Schools Technology Challenge track at a State or National Final. Land Rover 4x4 in School Technology Challenge vehicles are designed to negotiate the off-road course as controlled and smooth as possible within a set time frame. As a minimum, a Land Rover 4x4 in Schools Technology Challenge vehicle assembly MUST consist of the following mandatory components: A Body Shell 4 Wheels 7.4v Battery 2.4 GHz Receiver Drive Train Steering System Vehicle Chassis Suspension Automatic Lights Tilt Sensor Tow Bar Vehicle Decals Body Shell Decals 7.4v Battery & 2.4 GHz Receiver Tow Bar Automatic Lights & Tilt Sensor Front & Rear Wheels 4-Wheel Drive Chassis Australian Technical Regulations 2016/17 V1 01/08/16 Page 5 of 12

6 T3.0 Critical Rules IMPORTANT: Some technical regulations are classified as critical rules. If a team breaks any of these critical rules they will not be eligible to win the Best Engineered Vehicle, Best Track Performance award or overall (State or National Champions) so please take extra time to check your vehicles don t break any of the critical Technical Regulations. T5.0 Vehicle Dimensions (T5.1, T5.2, T5.3) T6.0 Drive, Wheels and Steering (T6.1, T6.2, T6.3) T7.1 Vehicle Weight T8.0 Vehicle Body Shell (T8.1, T8.3) T10.0 Tow Bar (T10.1, T10.2) T4.0 Vehicle Regulations Each team is required to produce a working remote controlled vehicle that satisfies the Land Rover 4x4 in Schools Technology Challenge vehicle criteria. The vehicle must be manufactured as much as possible by the team members and judges may ask teams to prove how the vehicle has been produced. Any work done on the vehicle not by a team member must be listed as an outsourced item and must have engineering drawings, product descriptions and design briefs along with information of the manufacturer. T5.0 Vehicle Dimensions T5.1 Overall Length [Critical Regulation 5pt Penalty] Measured from the longest points on the vehicle and including the fixed tow bar. 7 T5.2 Overall Width [Critical Regulation 5pt Penalty] Measured from the widest points on the vehicle and including features such as side mirrors. Dimension: 200mm maximum / 100mm minimum Overall Width T5.3 Overall Height [Critical Regulation 5pt Penalty] Measured from the track surface to the highest point on the vehicle excluding aerials. 8 T5.4 Ground Clearance [ 2pt Penalty] Measured from the track surface to the lowest point under the vehicle including the fixed tow bar. Dimension: 20mm minimum Ground Clearance T5.5 Approach Angle [ 2pt Penalty] Measured as the angle produced between the front of the front wheel and body. 9 T5.6 Departure Angle [ 2pt Penalty] Measured as the angle produced between the rear of the rear wheel and body. Dimension: 25 minimum Departure Angle T5.7 Break over Angle [ 2pt Penalty] Measured as a supplementary angle produced by the front and rear wheels to the lowest point of the car body. Dimension: 20 minimum Break over angle IMPORTANT: The dimensions above are set as a minimum for the vehicles. 10 T6.0 Drive, Wheels and Steering T6.1 Drive [Critical Regulation 2pt Penalty Each] The vehicle must be powered by an electric motor or motors The vehicle must be capable of forward and reverse drive Caterpillar tracks are not permitted. T6.2 Wheels [Critical Regulation 2pt Penalty Each] The vehicle must have four (4) wheels only All wheels must be driven. T6.3 Steering [Critical Regulation 2pt Penalty Each] The vehicle can be either two (2) or four (4) wheel steer All vehicles must have functional steering ie. must have the ability to turn left and right Tank, crab or skid steer is not permitted T7.0 Vehicle Weight T7.1 Maximum Weight [Critical Regulation 5pt Penalty] The vehicle must not exceed 2.0 kilograms in weight. Maximum Weight: 2.0kg T8.0 Vehicle Body Shell T8.1 Body shell cover [Critical Regulation 5pt Penalty Each] The vehicles body must have a shell the covers the following: The vehicle s battery All motors, receivers and wiring All four (4) wheels and tyres from plan view (above). T8.2 Resemble a vehicle The body shell should realistically resemble a vehicle. T8.3 Challenge Logo [Critical Regulation 2pt Penalty] The vehicle must display the challenge logo on a minimum of two different panels of the vehicle. 55mm 20mm T9.0 Vehicle Electronics T9.1 Radio control equipment [2pt Penalty Each] As a minimum, a standard two (2) channel 2.4Ghz radio control system A digital speed controller. T9.2 Battery Pack [2pt Penalty] The vehicle must be powered by one (1) battery pack with a maximum voltage of 7.4v. Australian Technical Regulations 2016/17 V1 01/08/16 Page 10 of 12

11 T10.0 Tow Bar All vehicles must be fitted with a fixed or deployable tow bar which must be carried by the vehicle throughout the competition. The tow bar will be used to tow a trailer by all vehicles through a set course laid out on the day of the competition. For trailer details refer to Appendix 1. T10.1 Fixed/Deployable [Critical Regulation 2pt Penalty] The vehicle must have a fixed or deployable tow bar which must be carried by the vehicle throughout the competition. T10.2 Suitable for use [Critical Regulation 2pt Penalty] The tow bar must be suitable for use with the tow eye on the supplied trailer. Diameter: 5mm maximum T10.3 Retract, fold or pivot [2pt Penalty] It is permissible to retract, fold or pivot the tow bar providing this is done without the use of any tool. T11.0 Appendix - Trailer The towing eye on the trailer is rigidly fixed to the trailer there is no rotational movement. The towing eye is a ring type. The trailer has no brakes. The trailer has four (4) wheels in close coupled format ie. close together, not at the corners of the trailer. The Land Rover 4x4 in Schools Technology Challenge trailer will be provided the on the day of competition.
