Recorder: Kim Riley ITEM DISCUSSION CONCLUSION Lunch Lunch served beginning at 11:15 am Call to Order Jill Hiers called the meeting to order at 11:38 Welcome Jill Hiers welcomed everyone. Minutes Oct.7, 2010 Meeting Kathy English motioned to accept minutes as submitted and Cheryl Smith seconded the motion. Minutes were accepted. ANNOUNCEMENTS Introductions Sheri Noviello introduced Dr. Ellen Roberts, the Interim Dean for the College of Education and Health Profession, Dr. Debbie Gober, Interim Associate Dean for the College of Education and Health Professions, and Laura Cardin, Development Coordinator. They are here to help us celebrate approval of the MSN Program. Sheri Noviello announced that the College of Education and Health Professions will have a new Dean on July 1 st. Her name is Dr. Barbara Buckner. Jill Hiers introduced several new attendees: Coleen Takahashi, Chief Nurse, from Martin Army Hospital, Delicia Williams, Director of Education, from St. Francis Hospital, and Dr. Denotra Gaillard from Georgia Health Science University. OLD BUSINESS Nursing Alumni Association No report. F/U in Fall 2011 Evidence-Based Practice Projects Sheri Noviello stated that the students did their presentations. She will download their presentations to CDs for everyone. We had 15 groups of students in our EBP course that did presentations at Columbus Regional or St. Francis. All 15 groups were accepted to present at CSU Tower Day. Three of the groups did podium presentations and the rest of them did poster presentations. We had one podium presentation and one poster presentation that won an award.

2 ITEM DISCUSSION CONCLUSION Med-Surg Nursing as Specialty Update Tammy Condrey stated that they have not met any more. Tammy discussed residency programs and how it promotes Med-Surg as a specialty. Delicia Williams and Bonnie Franco discussed the residency program at St. Francis. Coleen Takahashi discussed the residency program at Martin Army Hospital. Jill Hiers stated that all of this started with an initiative to build Med-Surg as a primary entry point. Cheryl Smith suggested that we might focus on this in PDP III and PDP IV. Sheri Noviello stated that the media shown at the Residency Graduate Program would be excellent to promote Med-Surd as a specialty. She said that we could put it on the SON website. RN-BSN Program Update Amanda Hawkins gave a presentation on the RN-BSN Program (Attachment Marketing Power Point RN- BSN ). Sheri Noviello talked about all the hard work that Amanda Hawkins has put into the RN-BSN program. MSN Program Update Cheryl Smith announced the approval of the MSN Program. Dr Roberts, Dr. Hackett, Tara Redmond and many others from CSU helped to get the proposal in. It was finally approved last Wednesday. Now she has a list of s with things that has to be done. Our next plan is to do a RN to MSN Program and then an EdD in Nursing Education. Included in information is a MSN fact sheet (Attachment Fact Sheet MSN and progression sheet (Attachment MSN Progression ). Daisy Award for Faculty Update No report. F/U in Fall 2011 Blue Jean Ball Update No report. F/U in Fall 2011 Dedicated Education Units Stephanie Lewis gave a presentation on dedicated education units (Attachment Dedicated Education Units 4.11 ). Stephanie also included the information from the following websites: StudentMax Chris Smith discussed Student Max the online clinical placement tool. He attended a teleconference which addressed several issues. GHA wants the institutions to pay an $800 yearly subscription. They are currently working on implementing changes. OPEN DISCUSSION ITEMS Dr. Roberts announced that Sheri Noviello is the new Director of the School of Nursing. Next Meeting Fall 2011, date/time to be announced. 12:35 pm F/U in Fall 2011
