John 4:5-42 March 26, 2017 Vision Correction John 9:1-41 UMCOR SUNDAY (Known previously as One Great Hour of Sharing) SPECIAL CHURCH CONFERENCE HELD On February 19, 2017, South Avenue United Methodist Church held a Special Church Conference. The purpose of the Church Conference was to vote on the request of Finance Committee and Ministry Council that the Bishop and District Superintendents support the monies from the sale of the Ross Avenue and Christ United Methodist Churches and the parsonage being unrestricted and to approve The Three-Year Plan for Renewal and Revitalization for South Avenue United Methodist Church recommended by Ministry Council. The plan and the request for unrestricting both funds were passed by the members in attendance. Thanks to everyone who participated! DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME CHANGE LOOKING AHEAD - ORDERING EASTER FLOWERS Easter flowers, which will decorate the altar on Easter Sunday, April 16, can be ordered beginning March 5th. The cost will be $9.00 for an Easter lily or a tulip. The flower sign-up will be available at the Action Table beginning March 5th. The vendor s deadline is April 3, so please place your order no later than April 2nd. Daylight savings time starts on March 12. Remember to set your clocks ahead on Saturday night, March 11th.

2 TRUSTEES COMMITTEE WILL MEET The Trustees will meet on Sunday, March 5 at 11:15 in the library. CONTRIBUTE TO UMCOR SUNDAY (Known previously as One Great Hour of Sharing) We all know the wonderful work done by UMCOR in many disaster relief efforts. As promised, all money donated to specific relief efforts goes to that effort. On March 26, you will be asked to support the administrative costs of all these activities by giving to UMCOR Sunday. Your donation will help pay for the staff and supplies that make these efforts possible. Please make checks payable to SAUMC with UMCOR Sunday in the memo line. ORDER ALTAR FLOWERS FOR 2017 The Care Ministry Team invites you to reserve a Sunday for altar flowers for There are still available dates in June, July and August. You may call the Church Office to make your requests in honor and/or memory of a loved one or in recognition of a special event in the life of your family. Flowers are provided by James Floral in Wilkinsburg at $16 per centerpiece. ENJOY BREAKFAST AND LUNCH HOSPITALITY MEALS On Sunday, March 19, we will serve breakfast at 9:00 am. On Sunday, March 26, we will serve lunch at 11:15 am. These meals are offered to the community to ease tight budgets at the end of the month. Church members are invited to mingle with our neighbors and make them feel welcome. Members are also invited to help with preparation, set up and clean up. It s fun and a great way to get to know fellow church members. If you are enjoying the meals, please also consider donating to help pay for them. We don t collect money at the meal so that we don t discourage neighbors from attending. You can place a check in the collection plate at any time made out to SAUMC with end of-month meals on the memo line. ASH WEDNESDAY DINNER AND SERVICE March 1, :30 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., we will have a light meal in the Fanny Crosby Room and begin the penitent season of Lent with music, scripture and ashes. The service of meditation and music will follow immediately at 7:00 p.m., also in the Fanny Crosby Room. All are welcome. Your reservation will help us plan for the correct number of people. Please sign up at the Action Table or call the Church Office to make a reservation. An offering will be received at dinner to cover costs. A MISSED THANK YOU Unintentionally left out of the Thanks to Greeters last month was the name of June Wilson. We thank her for her service as a greeter. SPIRITUAL HEALTH GROUP MEETS SHG will meet Monday, March 13 and 27, at 12:30pm in the library. We continue with Barbara Brown Taylor's "Learning to Walk in the Dark". SUPPORT WILKINSBURG AND ENJOY YOURSELF The Pittsburgh Symphony is still working to support the grade school music program in Wilkinsburg. This year s concert will be on March 23 at 7 p.m. at the Wilkinsburg High School auditorium. Read the poster on the last page for more details. Enjoy yourself and help Wilkinsburg s youngsters. UPPER ROOM The McLaughlin Memorial Fund creates the possibility for you to have the Upper Room Devotional booklet. You may obtain your copy of the March/ April issue in the Narthex or at the literature rack by the Action Table.

3 HAM LOAVES RETURN Mark Your Calendars and Sign Up! Those yummy ham loaves will be available again on Sunday, April 9. Watch for the sign-up sheet or call the church office to put your name on the list. Details will follow soon. CIRCLE NEWS COMBINED CIRCLE MEETING Sarah and Longwood Circles will meet together Thursday, March 9, at 12:30 at Longwood of Oakmont. After lunch in the grille, the program will be a review of the book Sweet Water, by Christina Baker Kline, presented by Rev. Cathy Newport. All women are welcome to join us! Feb. 20, 2017 To: South Avenue Methodist Church The staff and residents of Bethlehem Haven wish to thank you and give praise to you and God for all that you do from the kindness of your generous hearts. You lovingly have given of your time to give us a needed break from the stress that we all face in our daily lives and our quest for peaceful and joyful lives. We all thank you and may God continue to move you as you've helped to move us towards quality in our lives. PITTSBURGH DISTRICT UNITED METHODIST WOMEN TO MEET The spring meeting will be held on Saturday, March 25, at McKnight UMC from 8:30 am to 1 pm. Featured speaker will be Rev. Jim Ritchie and the topic is "Human Equality." Please see the Women's Ministries' Bulletin Board for additional information. From, Susie The women at Bethlehem Haven enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Janet Stivanson on Feb. 20. A couple of the women referred to it as a "feast." The barbecued pork chops were so tender that even the plastic ware cut them. Corn, hash brown potato casserole and a fresh green salad rounded out the meal. Gay Becket and Betsy Monheim delivered and served the meal and contributed rolls, clementines, iced tea and red, white and blue iced cookies for the President's Day dessert.
