1 FLX VoIP Registering with Cisco UCM Date: May 15 th, 2012 This technical note gives a detailed description on how to register a Revolabs FLX conference phone with a Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM). First, an account for FLX has to be created on the CUCM. Then, using either the FLX handset or FLX web UI the FLX will need to register with the CUCM. This document describes how to perform both of these steps. To perform the tasks described in this document, the user needs to have administrative rights on the CUCM. While the steps in this document are not difficult, we recommend that a trained CUCM administrator should perform them. The instructions and screen shots provided here were prepared using CUCM version Other versions of the CUCM may differ, though the general procedures are the same. Configuring Cisco Unified Communications Manager for FLX Registration To prepare the CUCM for the FLX Conference phone several steps will have to be performed. These steps are the same required for any third party SIP device. Login to the CUCM Console Create a directory number Add a user Add a phone device Associate the device with the user 1. Login to the CUCM Console Using a web browser, browse to the CUCM and click on the Cisco Unified Communications Manager link. 1 P age

2 Once you select the application you will be directed to the CUCM Console login page. In the upper right corner select Cisco Unified CM Administration and click Go. Enter your CUCM username and password and click Login. 2. Creating a Directory Number From the CUCM Administration page, choose the Call Routing menu and select Directory Number. 2 P age

3 On the Find and List Directory Numbers page, click Add New. On the Directory Number Configuration page, enter a new number for the FLX phone. We are using 5041 in our example as the Directory Number. We only describe the minimum configuration of what is required to complete the registration. You may provide additional information per your site s policy. Required fields on the Directory Number Configuration page are marked with an asterisk. 3 P age

4 Click Save. You may see a Loading, please wait message. 3. Adding a User From the main menu choose the User Management menu and select End User. On the Find and List Users page, click Add New. 4 P age

5 On the End User Configuration page, enter information for the new user. In our example the User ID is the same as the Directory Number created in the previous step. The User ID and the Password that you specify here will be used when you register the FLX. Again, note the required fields marked with an asterisk. You can use the default values as shown in the screen shots below. Once you have entered the user details, click Save. 5 P age

6 You can now add the new end user to Groups and assign Roles. On the same End User Configuration screen, select the bottom panel titled Permissions Information. Click Add to User Group. On the Find and List User Groups page, click the checkbox for Standard CCM End Users to select that group. Click Add Selected. Then, from the End User Configuration screen click Save, which will automatically add the corresponding roles. 6 P age

7 4. Adding a Phone Device From the main menu choose the Device menu and select Phone. On the Find and List Phones page, click Add New. On the Add a New Phone page, select the Phone Type option and choose Third-party SIP Device (Basic). Click Next to proceed. To complete this page you will need the MAC address of your FLX. Using the FLX handset, choose Menu, then select the System Info icon (the large i in the center). Select Bluetooth Info, then Bluetooth Status. The MAC address is the Base BDA number, which is a 12-digit hex number. 7 P age

8 Enter the FLX MAC address in the MAC Address field, and complete the required fields as shown on the right. Specify the Digest User (annotated by the red arrow). The Digest User should be the same as the User ID that you specified when creating a new End User in the previous step. Click Save. You may see a pop-up indicating that you should click the Apply Config button for the changes to take effect. 8 P age

9 Clicking Apply Configuration may show the following page. Click OK to proceed. The new phone device has now been added. The Phone Configuration page should display the new phone as Unregistered. To find the device click Select Device On the left side of the page it will show that the device has not yet been associated with a directory number. Click on the Line [1] Add new DN link. The Directory Number Configuration screen will appear. Enter the Directory Number we created earlier. Click Save. 9 P age

10 The Associated Device you created earlier will now appear on the Directory Number Configuration page. In the upper right corner click the Go button to go back to the Configure Device page, which will go back to the changed association screen, listing the phone number. The Registration and Active Load ID might still show Unregistered and Unknown, respectively. This will change once the FLX has registered successfully. 5. Associating the Device with the User The final step is now to associate the End User that we created with the new Device. From the main menu choose the User Management menu and select End User. Click the Find button to display a list of users, and then click the User ID that you specified previously. In our example we would click P age

11 On the End User Configuration page, select the Device Information panel. Click the Device Association button. On the User Device Association page, locate the phone that you added by its MAC address or Directory Number. See our example device with a red underline. Click the checkbox for that device, then click Save Selected/Changes. You have now created the directory number, user, and the phone device and have associated them with each other. You can register the FLX with the CUCM. 11 P age

12 Registering the FLX with the CUCM You can use either the FLX handset or the FLX web UI to register the FLX with the CUCM. We are showing how to do it with the handset. 1. IP address of the FLX. a. If you are using DHCP in your environment, the FLX automatically receives an IP address. From the FLX handset, choose Menu and System Info (the symbol with the i ) and select About System. The IP address (static or via DHCP) of your FLX is shown. b. If you are using static IP, on the FLX handset chose Setup (the wrench symbol), Advanced Setup, enter the administrator password (default password is 7386 ), enter Network Settings. Change DHCP ON to DHCP OFF. Then enter IP Settings. In this menu you can enter the IP address, Subnet Mask, and other relevant information. Once you have entered all information, select Return, and in the Network Settings menu select Load Settings. This will restart your phone with the new network settings. 2. From the FLX handset, choose Menu and select the Setup icon (the wrench in the lower right corner). 3. Select Advanced Setup, press Enter and enter the password. After entering the registration information, a new menu item will appear named Load Settings. Select Load Settings. 7. The handset will prompt you to restart the phone: Load VOIP Settings? System will reboot. Choose Yes. The phone will restart. If registration is successful, the handset will show the user ID at the top of the home screen. If there is a registration failure, the handset will show that the phone is not registered. Please verify that the user ID and password are the same as the ones specified when configuring the CUCM. Also, in the CUCM verify that the device was correctly associated with the user. 12 P age
